I'd like to see some retellings of Grimms fairytales that haven't been covered by Disney. They might be a bit darker and the stories less well known and predictable.
Cinderella is actually at the number 1 spot for retellings, but Beauty and the Beast is at a REAL close second. I had a similar theory that Disney did end up, in fact, influence a generation of writers who wanted to write retellings as some of the other REALLY popular fairytales are actually the ones Disney has done. Though I can’t 100% explain the 12 dancing princesses …….. Barbie, maybe?

The last book series you mentioned made me think of The Ever After High books. Oh, the nostalgia...
I remember loving Ella Enchanted(Cinderella retellig) and Spindle's End(Sleeping Beauty retelling).
I agree with you on most of your tastes, but SJM is one of my favourite authors twt

Ugh my favorite retelling is Spin the Dawn (inspired by Mulan and Aladdin) I loved the setting and magic!
U should read 'The last wish' and 'Sword of destiny'. Those are short stories from the Witcher universe. Really good retellings
