    Thank you! My wife asked me to read ACOTAR because she started the series this year and she adores it. I finished the first book, saw how both Tamlin and Rhysand treated Feyre, and immediately asked her WTF. She said I had to keep going. That it got better. That I just didn’t understand. I understand that lying, manipulation, physically harming someone, and forcing them into a life long commitment that is two steps away from slavery is not romance. And while Rhysand does some okay things in the second book it does not excuse his actions in the first book, he never sees any consequences for it, and he continues to withhold the truth from Feyre while CONSTANTLY putting in situations where she nearly gets killed. None of it is romantic, none of it is okay, and I do not see the attraction at all.

    I do think that morally grey as its name suggest it doesn’t have a definitive meaning. If anything the words I would describe a morally grey person. Would be a realist and a pragmatist. Their actions is closer to survival of their lives . But also if they could help they would. If they have the power do so. In a way you can it morally selfish. I feel like most characters will do actions that aligns to this. Personally, I love characters like that when they are well-written. I’m willing to look past everything if the writer is capable of pulling it off. I don’t relate to their actions, but I can relate to their emotions. I can understand them but I won’t ever excuse their actions. The psychology behind such characters is what makes it compelling to read. That’s why I fascinated with grimdark fantasy.

    8:47 the term you're looking for is character assassination and i agree. Reducing tamlin's character to a villainous caricature just to elevate rhysand feels so cheap and lazy. #justicefortamlin

    I always have mixed feelings about this. There's nothing wrong with listening to audiobooks, it's just another way to enjoy books, but it is a different activity. So why use "read an audiobook/book" when that's not what you're doing? 😅 Someone who watched movie Hobbit wouldn't say that they had "read the movie/book".

  • @EnyaShello
    @EnyaShello 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    ITS NOT ABLEST TO USE WORDS BY THEIR CORRECT MEANING. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with listening to a book but call it what it actually is and that’s listening NOT READING. Why are you so desperate to say you READ it? Why do you feel defining the actual form in which you consumed that content is ableist? Listening will never be reading AND THATS OKAY but are two different forms of media consumption and should be labeled correctly. By your logic a podcast is reading Watching a film is just reading a script It’s not the same. You listened to the book you did not read it it’s okay to say you listened to it I promise you’re still just as valid

    I keep having to say, you reading to your child before bed does not count towards their reading goals. And multitasking, which is what you’re generally doing while book listening is not a thing. So comprehension flies out the window. But making book reading a competition? That just sucks.

  • @harmony.havoc.
    @harmony.havoc. 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    "Reading" is the process of looking at a series of written symbols and getting meaning from them. When we read, we use our eyes to receive written symbols (letters, punctuation marks and spaces) and we use our brain to convert them into words, sentences and paragraphs that communicate something to us. You were listening to an audiobook.

  • @littleMahika
    @littleMahika 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I agree with the other comment. It does depend what you use the audiobook for. I have books playing in the background while doing work but sometimes when I'm commuting I do listen more attentively. When I replayed a section from work, I don't remember some passages. But when I replay the one from the commute, I end up being bored and skipping sections because "I already heard this." before. So it does count as reading but only when you do attentively listen and retain information. I mean if you answer reading comprehension questions well afterwards then that checks.

  • @justarandomgothamite5466
    @justarandomgothamite5466 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    For me personally, it depends. Like I don't think it counts when I'm just using it as background noise because I won't recall shit, but when I'm sitting in the train or car and actively listening, heck yeah! But like reading is a hobby we make our own rules.

    I read Duncan's books when I was younger (ig high school ish age) and I wasn't rly active on social media, so my heart dropped when I realized she added anti-semitic and racist tropes into her books. What kind of person even does something like that.. I was so shocked and embarrassed that I didn't recognize the anti-semitism bc I didn't even know what "blood libel" was before the news came out. I read and loved Rin Chupeco's Bone Witch series though so I'm thankful they stood up for their fellow authors. Thank you for taking the right stand in the book community.

    Hey queen I know this video is 2 yrs old but I’m on the rhysand hate train because my friend is making me read these books. Just wanted to mention quickly that the dark triad is often interconnected with “evil” and psychopathy/antisocial personality disorder. So honestly it adds a whole new uncomfortable layer to fictional bad boys if they have dark triad traits

A Good Girl's Guide To Murder (Holly Jackson) Mystery/Thriller/YA/Trilogy "The case is closed. Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it. But Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn't so sure." One Of Us Is Lying (Karen M. McManus) Mystery/Thriller/YA/Trilogy "On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?" They All Had A Grudge (Michelle Leathers) Mystery/Thriller/YA/6-part series "Charlotte is convinced her life would be perfect if she could only get past the one obstacle holding her back: A girl named Bellany Silverfield. But when Bellany is murdered, Charlotte’s life doesn't get any better. In fact, it gets much worse." This Lie Will Kill You (Chelsea Pitcher) Mystery/Thriller/YA "One year ago, there was a party. At the party, someone died. Five teens each played a part and up until now, no one has told the truth. But tonight, the five survivors arrive at an isolated mansion in the hills, expecting to compete in a contest with a $50,000 grand prize. Of course…some things are too good to be true."

What I would recommend is watching it. The LOTR also NEVER drops the ball, but it’s not like it makes it exponentially better, LOTR is about as good as His Dark Materials in terms of adaptation.

    So I stopped reading Divergent after the 2nd book, but my mom still loved the series.. until the last book where she almost threw her phone (we had audiobooks) when Tris died and Peter lived.. I liked the first movie, but after the second movie I just lost interest and I was here and there in what I payed attention to for book three… I have actually wanted to watch the first Divergent movie because purely because of casting and basic world building I like occasionally like fanfics about Eric and Peter… but my mom will legit not mess with anything Divergent related despite once loving it because of the last book.
