jeez. Finally. Been wondering for years what the heck those things were and what the heck to do with them. My opinion, I that since these have become so popular, that, almost all gear makers put them on, and lots of people have no idea what they are, especially if they were never military, or do only occasional outdoors activities. Like me! haha because I have been seeing molle loops on back packs for what, at least 15 years now, quite commonly, and never knew what they were for or what they were called. But yes!!! Finally!!! I know now!!!!!!! And now I can start spending allllllllllll of that additional money on allllll the molle accessories I could never ever really need but will spend the money anyway! yay!
I have had a molle enabled pouch for my camera gear I use...didn't know there was a technical name for it! I must say the pouch is super useful for photography.
The straps sewn into this backpack and others by Milwaukee is called M-O-L-L-E webbing, they are on all military backpacks. MOLLE is an acronym for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. It is used to define the current generation of load-bearing equipment and backpacks used by a number of NATO armed forces, especially the British Army and the United States Army.
Even for general use, I really like these type of MOLLE pouches, sometimes you need to have a small bag for items need quick access, that you can attach for a larger carry bag, backpack, waist pack, etc.
Thought it was pronounced like the animal mole and had no idea what they were for. I just purchased a new Highland Tactical backpack from Ross today for a $30 steal and it has quite a bit of MOLLE stuff. Thanks for explaining.
I know it’s been 4 years, but do you have any updates on how you like the bag? I think I found the same bag today at Ross and TJ Maxx for 39.99. It’s the giant foxtrot backpack. Been thinking about picking it up but not sure how good it is.

Absolutely. Some 5.11 bags (like the AMP 72) have an interior vertical MOLLE setup, which is better for strapping rifles in the interior than horizontal MOLLE webbing. Also, I have always thought that carabiners fit much better on vertical MOLLE webbing. 5.11 makes removable MOLLE panels that have vertical webbing on the front and horizontal on the back. Also, although the AMP series from 5.11 seems to be discontinued (not 100% sure of this is true, none are left on their website), there are still a lot for sale out there, and they had a really interesting MOLLE variation called the "hexgrid", check it out sometime.
I swear about 90% of the companies that make molle attachments dont even know how it works. They leave 0 to a half inch between the strap and first loop of the pouch for the first loop in the pack to fit in so its basically useless.
agreed. as I said in my original comment, I hadn’t the slightest clue, despite seeing them on packs for years. And I was never military and only an occasional outdoorsman with little experience. And so I really think that since this became a thing, a lot of companies just put them on there, almost like a “fashion” thing to make it look more “tactical” or “outdoors-ee”. Lol well I am glad I finally got informed about what they are!
Interesting how the US tends to pronounce MOLLE as Molly (a female name) instead of as mole (the animal) Either way you say it though it's a great system in my opinion.
@@quillo2747 Seeing as how: 1. Well, Dave, apparently YOU missed grammar school! Everyone else knows that a vowel (O) followed by a double consonant (LL) has a short sound so Molly is the correct pronunciation. Well, at least for those of us with a 7th grade or better education. Sorry if you grew up in Appalachia and had no shoes.
In the UK I like to be grey man, just on case my non locking sub 3 inch (it's very close as curves blade) turns out not to be sub 3 inch and I get arrested 😅
Long live ALICE. No zippers to break. Nothing complicated. It's quiet access to supplies. It's dirt cheap in production. It can be cannibalized for other uses.
It's just me or this molle system seems not practical at all? It's cumbersome, it add a lot of weight, and you don't really take advantage of modularity since the attach/detach process is slow and complicated.

I named my stuffed unicorn Molly just to avoid any confusion.

I consider myself a walking tool kit, and I did not know how this system worked. I think I'll try and seek out a couple of these bags in the future.
