Yep. The part starting at 2:39 is completely missing in the album version. I also like this "chill" moment without the drums in the background at 2:49. You can hear the bassline better in the new version, though, which I really like. I didn't even realize how good it sounds.
Bassline is far too quiet, elements of the song don't stand out individually in the mix although it's not an awful mix. If you played this through a bigger system of speakers rather than headphones you'd notice the issues way more. I love Tame Impala and this is one of my favourite songs, but definitely respect the fact they re-released it with a new mix!
The lyrics in the original version here are just a little darker and more interesting IMO. “Once again I am alone” “come with me outside...this weight is crushing” “LA really messed me up”
Last I knew there were add ons for browsers to "record" off TH-cam. This was years ago tho, I'm convinced to go find a way to make sure I always had this version.

I feel they’re too different to compare the two. This one easily takes the cake for more creative lyrics and a more ethereal vibe while the slow rush version easily wins in bass and groove. They’re both good in their own ways.

This song really gives the vibe of someone in emotional pain trying to just get rid of/work through the emotions with the use of hard drugs, something like LSD or Shrooms. In reality though, it just enhances your emotions and you get caught in an almost emotional break (best way I can describe it). I feel this especially through the lyrics “Rudy said it’s fine they used to do this all the time in college.” And “caught between the tides between pain and rapture.” Also, “how was I to know? How was I to know this high came rushing?”
Kevin's dulcet tones always makes me drift away and imagine I'm on a faraway exotic beach! It just evokes thoughts of sunsets, cocktails and white sands!
