Fantastic series! I almost expected you to have tempted fate there for a bit and worry not about the pronunciation of grasslands as it’s been brilliant fun to listen to your exploits!
No worries - definitely worth playing the game before watching any videos! Let me know what you thought of it when you eventually sit down and give it a go!
I rather liked it. I think you have to think of it almost as a choose-your-own-adventure level of game, in that there is a narrative and once you've seen it, you've seen it. But the randomisation adds a bit of variability. Yes - there is an updated version with much improved layout and more content (I think there's a couple of dungeon-crawl type areas) and a sequel game.
I dunno what I think of this game. It’s fun… I think, but feels VERY limited. Not enough choices (6 per type, and if you already encountered it read the above or below passage. I’ve almost seen everything and I’m in my first game! I also lucked out and found tons of armor early so I had so much armor most enemies couldn’t hurt me or could only occasionally chip away at my health. Now that I have a laser sword I can just murder them. Dunno…
Yes, it is not a game with significant replayability. In that sense, I think it is probably closer (in terms of the amount of play you will get from it) to a game book. Now that I think about it, it is kind of like a deconstructed gamebook. With a built in mapping component. And thought of in those terms, I like it. There's definitely quite a big luck component. I feel that I, like you, experienced quite a bit of luck and so don't feel a huge amount in the way of physical threat. But then I see other people say they have died several times and haven't gotten all the way through. All that said - and as much as I like the system - it does feel like it needs an additional level so that all the events / encounters aren't raced through. Maybe some generic events / encounters so that those main ones aren't hit as often. Getting one almost every day takes the shine off a little.

Grass...lands 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the series!!
this is my first foray into journaling rpgs and i'm enjoying it more than I thought I would
Awesome, enjoy!
I am sorry to say that I still have not sat down with my copy of the game and so I am still avoiding this series for now. But I'm glad it's happening!

The more I watch this particular game, the more I may be tempted to try it out. Was this the one that had an updated version and a sequel as well?

@@lone_adventurer I'll definitely look into the updated version to see how that looks, comparatively.

@@lone_adventurer I can see that!
