I am 73 years young & make every bit of bread & bread products that we eat. I've had the white bosch for over 12 years now. I absolutely love it. I do have the stainless bowl also but prefer the white one. Over the years I have gotten the meat grinder, flaker, pasta maker & food processor. Not the blender though because I have a great Vitamix. I replaced a Kitchen Aid (still have) from 1987. Makes wonderfull wholegrain & sourdough breads. Have made as many as 7 loaves in it. Make butter with wire whips & does very well. Don't usually do a double rise of yeast bread because it mixes so well. Haven't tried Ankascrum because it cost more than we could do.
I transitioned from Kitchenaid to the Bosch Universal Plus (plastic bowl). I didn't know at the time, many of the universal plus mixers can heat up if doing longer kneading times... mine sure did and since I was also transitioning to fresh milled flour I struggled a LOT with getting a good bread bake completed... I learned to rest it... I also found the nutrimal mixer, smaller version, and the universal plus have great universality in parts and got the nutrimill mixer's dough hook... which I felt did a better job. In the end, I just sucked it up and got a refurbised Ankrsrum from their website at a great price. I look forward to baking with fresh milled flour, using key tips from you, every weekend. AND I just got your book from Amazon today. I've been reading it and love it. Thank you so much for everything you do!!!
That is awesome! I'm so happy to hear that you're enjoying your new mixer and my cookbook! It's wonderful that you're baking with fresh-milled flour, it has been life changing for me and my family :)
Wow! It doesn't seem like you got your Ankarsrum over a year ago! I am so curious how it compares to the Ank. I have an Ank. I have seen some reviews of the bosch that had issues with dough/food contents getting under the bowl where the utensils come up thru the bottom. Please keep us posted!
I know you’re in a small space but hope you like it enough to keep it. I’ve been a Bosch user for decades. Whole extended family too! I’m excited to see how you like it. I can get a window pane in 5-8 minutes in it!
I’m sure the Bosch is good, but I’m partial to the Ankarsrum. Yes, it is more expensive, but it’s built like a tank and is incredibly powerful. I haven’t found any negatives with it. Also, I’m not a fan of the plastic parts on the Bosch. To each their own.
I do have some sourdough recipes on my website, I will consider adding more. But, some great tips at the bottom of this post I wrote. grainsinsmallplaces.net/gisp-method/
So this is the only thing I don’t have - a good mixer. ❤❤. Love the additional $20 off. Wonder if they will honor an additional for military discount. Is this the one to purchase!? I bought the nutrimill harvest, your book, my grains…..
You can contact them and ask, I am not sure if they will stack both, but doesn't hurt to ask! I have had the pleasure to use this one for the first time yesterday, and so far thrilled with the results! :)
I ordered one and I was soooo disappointed!! Two main reasons: 1) I have gray goo. According to Nutrimill, and my own observations, my higher-hydration dough climbs up the plastic center post, then gets down the metal post and ends up getting gray goop on it, then the climbs back up the metal post and gray-goop-covered dough ends up in my main dough. EWWW!! Nutrimill customer service told me that's why I have gray goop and they can send me a dough glide. However, that received mixed reviews on the facebook group I asked about it. 2) When I mix a batter using paddles or cream using the whisks, after a few minutes the sound becomes unbearable as the plastic tops of the paddles/whisks rub along the plastic ribs at the top of the bowl's center post. If I spray oil on the plastic ribs it will stop making the henious noise, but then I run the risk of oil in my whipped cream...or whatever I'm making. It's so very sad!!
Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that. I will be watching for these things. So far so good when I used it. Thanks for letting me know your experience. I would try contacting service again about the whisks and see if maybe yours could be out of alignment or something.
I have the white plastic one and had to order the attachments. All white plastic that came with a cancer warning. 😮 I had to choice to order a stainless steel.
The cancer warning is on everything from appliances to auto parts, thanks to the far left California Government. Just ignore it and enjoy your new Bosch, they are awesome mixers. I had an earlier one from the eighties that I replaced with the Artiste recently. I also have the Nutrimill Harvest Grainmill which works really well.
I called Ninja about a single serve coffee maker I just ordered that came with that warning. I personally take it seriously, and called them to ask what the warning was referring to specifically. I had thought it would be all of the plastic, but it was actually for everything made with stainless steel…so in my case, the mesh basket used to hold coffee had elements/compounds in the stainless steel that are known to cause cancer and reproductive harm.
I appreciate this review. I invested in a commercial 8 quart kitchen aid and though it doesn’t work like the Ankarsrum or Bosch it works well but I’ve been interested in the Bosch. Looking forward to your opinions
@ watching your Ankasrum review now. So much more expensive than Bosch and I’ve heard pros and cons for both so my question is if you could only pick 1, which one would you choose?
Hi Kara, I just ordered the black universal plus yesterday, darn. That is okay though. I am very excited to see your recipes in this mixer. May, I please ask that you also do small batch baking as well. I have an Ank, but it it's not the greatest for single batch baking. Would you mind doing that? I received your cookbook Saturday and want to play. Thank you, suzie
Hi Kara, I wasn’t sure I was clear in what I was asking for, when I said small batches. I was asking you to please do a single loaf of your bread and a single batch of cookies. Thank you again, suzie

That is awesome to hear! It is a wonderful machine for sure! Thanks so much for sharing! :)
I have had one for 12+ years of hard use. I love it!
I hear they hold up wonderfully! :)
I love mine! Can get to window pane in 6-8 minutes.
Yes! I am noticing at how quickly it can achieve the window pane! :)
I love my Bosch! . It’s cheaper than Ankarsrum and mixes much better. I get a window pane in 6-8 minutes without fail. Love, love, love it
I am so happy to hear that! Thanks for sharing! I had the pleasure of using this for the first time yesterday, and am thrilled with the results! :)
Welcome to the Bosch mixer family. You are going to love it.
Thanks! I can't wait to see what I can make with it! 😄

I’m also interested in the comparison
I will! I did have the pleasure of using it already, and it is phenomenal at kneading dough! ;)

Thanks so much! I appreciate it! It is a beauty. I have had the pleasure of using it for the first time yesterday, and am thrilled with it so far! :)

I also love my Ankarsrum, it will be pretty hard for me to choose, because they are both amazing mixers! :)
Please please cover more FMF sourdough breads... everyone needs help with getting open crumb.
Thanks.

Looks like nice mixer😊

@@GrainsInSmallPlaces good to know. I do like the Ank - just not sure I can afford that one yet! Do you have insight on the Ank for BF?

I plan to do some videos with this new mixer, yes! I hope you love my cookbook! :)
@@GrainsInSmallPlaces thank Kara
You’re going to need a bigger kitchen to accommodate all your new goodies. 😅
Lol, I know! I am slowly figuring it out! :)
