Toots aims for the heart and always pulls out a tear.......like he signs, WITH A SMILE AND A TEAR. I had the great pleasure to have a 20 minute conversation with him a few years back in Los angeles in a Jazz Club called Catalina´s Bar and Grill in Hollywood and to me he´s not only the greatest musician still alive but also the nicest man i´ve ever met.Talking with him was the greatest thing that ever happened to me. Toots you´re my inspiration......
I once heard an interview with Luiz Eça, on a radio here in Brazil, where he talked about Bill Evans' version of this song. He said that became furious because Bil Evans had given the song a quicker rhythm and sent a letter to him showing his dissatisfaction. Bill Evans apologized but over time, Eça fell in love with this version. When Bill Evans came to Rio, he insisted on meeting him and made a great friendship.
I saw Toots play this song with Kenny Werner and Oscar Castro Neves 4 years ago in Worcester, MA ; the expressions that they put forth that evening have been duplicated in this performance. This is such a mellow and moving composition that is superbly expanded by these expert musicians. Thank you so much for the posting.
what can you say about toots.ive listened to him for 60yrs and I wish It could be another 60.he is the greatest and remember he played with the bird at his request and of course every other great player on the planet.we are so lucky to have this great man amongst us.listen to him and appreciate him we will never see his like again.many thanks
De man, die een klein instrument groot maakte, die voorgoed afrekende met het imago van de mondharmonica als "speelgoedje" en bewees dat het een volwaardig instrument is, is helaas niet meer onder ons. Zijn opnamen moeten gekoesterd worden. R.I.P. Toots..
this is brilliant. both toots and kenny werner, playing piano. wasn't previously familiar with his work until now - but now i'm a fan. have loved toots forever.
Lovely and marvelous -- sometimes Kenny seems a tad bit too cerebral, but I still think he's a WONDERFUL pianist, and Toots always touches your heart!!! Very nice -- thanks for posting this -- very much enjoyed it!!! :)
i hope everyone who'd want to see him in concert to be able to, like i wish i could hear david sanborn without a mic, in front of me, but of course that's a gift for his frends first... ciao from giovanni!
Pure feeling comes only from fully internalized knowledge and understanding, both of which Toots possessed to a very uncommon degree. RIP to one of the true masters.

Вперше чую таке виконання.Вишукано,чарівно і заспокійливо на душі. Дякую.
Rest in peace, Toots. You were one of the most amazing musicians to ever walk the earth. Definitely underrated.
