I'll never forget the summer of 69. My brother was in Vietnam,,,The Manson Family went on a murdering spree,,, The Civil Rights Movement was going strong. The Hippies were running amuck,,, My Mother told me if I ever tried to act like that she'd beat me to death. Of course through it all,,, we were raised on The Best Music Ever.
It was a crazy time but we made it through,,, I reckon well get through these trying times too. Thank God!!!

Good to see Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd included here. They are almost forgotten, which is a shame - they were such a dynamic duo in "noir" films during the 40's. I'm a great Alan Ladd fan, and it's so sad that his career went downhill after the pinnacle with the great movie "Shane" in the 50's. R.I.P., also all the others mentioned here.
My friend's father was the bartender in the hotel where Veronica Lake lived in
Manhattan, right before her death! He said that she would come in alone, most
times, before going to sleep for drinks & that few people recognized her! Sad!
My mother's best friend, Adrian Anderson, was Sue Ladd's girl Friday. One day we went up to their house and while Adrian, my mother, and Sue were chatting, a thoroughly disheveled Alan Ladd came wandering out in an old bathrobe, eyed us, and disappeared back to wherever he'd come from. He did not look the movie hero part. The Ladds had a great bomb shelter, back when that was a thing.

James Dean and Merilyn Monroe are true legends and they remembered till this day. He is by far the most handsome man that ever lived. No one. Literally no one compares with him, except Marlon Brando and River Phoenix because they were so damn beautiful as he was, and Merilyn was the definition of grace and beauty. Never never again will be anyone like them. All the new Hollywood stars are so boring in comparison with them. They live in our hearts and True legends NEVER die!!!
James Dean was an ordinary guy, not very tall and noone who would play a leading role in a classic Hollywood movie like Cary Grant, Gary Cooper, Rock Hudson, Gregory Peck, Burt Lancaster etc. There were a lot of newcomers in the 50's and 60's and James Dean was only one of them. He played the young, always somewhat dissatisfied, rebel like Robert Walker before.

I noticed that many of the actors died due to substance and alcohol abuse.. Others in tragic accidents, suicide or murders.. May them all rest in peace knowing that they have not been forgotten by the world!

My parents were born in the 1920 era and told me once that LINDA DARNELL WAS REALLY PRETTY AND ONE DAY I FOUND OUT THAT SHE WAS IN A FIRE AND THEN DIED AND I GOT SAD. I DID SEE SOME OF HER MOVIES AND SHE WAS REALLY PRETTY.
She was the actress my father liked most along with Gene Tierney. Very tragic death.

Thanks so much for this upload. So sad all these talented and good looking stars died so young. I heard Elvis never really got over his "Jailhouse Rock" co star Judy Tyler dying young in a car crash. Sadly Elvis would die way too soon as well !
Plus the beautiful and talented Tyrone Power passing away so tragically at only 44 from an unfortunate heart attack still bother's me when I see him in his great movies. Plus thanks for telling me how John Garfield died. It's still kind of a mystery though since he was blacklisted as a communist by Joseph McCarthy and that really hurt his career. Some people still say it was foul play with John Garfield. But Who Knows ?

Natalie Wood was a great beauty and a solid actress,underappreciated. I still recall hearing about her death.
Laird Cregar was 31 when he died. 6'3", massive actor with tremendous, versatile talent. Passed away in 1944 when so many were dying, so perhaps why overlooked here. His list of films is short but impressive.

Bruce Lee should have been mentioned he died aged only 33. He did so much to promote martial arts to the west in cinema and as a practical art form.

Plus the ones that most people do not include in these lists are Stephen Boyd from movie "Ben Hur" played Messala died at 45 of heart attack. Nick Adams from "Rebel without a cause" died of drug overdose or suspicious circumstances at 37. Errol Flynn only 50.

That's an ideal way to expand your knowledge about the movie industry: just go to Imdb (internet movie database) and check out a few names or faces that struck you, you'll find in which movies they played, and sometimes you'll find these often excellent movies here on TH-cam. Take Leslie Howard for ex. and try the movie "Petrified forest". Or the Alan Ladd/Veronica Lake movies... (strange to see they both died aged 50). Even if they disliked each other very much, on screen there was quite some chemistry and memorable movie history made by these two ! Cheerio

I took special note of the fact that they attributed Marilyn Monroe's death to "acute barbituate poisioning", and NOT "suicide". The truth is slowly coming to light as public opinion and new facts come up every year or so in regard to her untimely death and the mystery surrounding it.
She was murdered ...JFK & particularly RFK "involvements" proved fatal to MM.

Manolis, Hi They died younger too but they were all older in their late 50's to 60's. More middle age but you are correct all died too young. I love old movies and Humphrey Bogart is actually my favorite old movie star !

Here is some crazy trivia for Ya'll. Ben Lyon helped Marilyn Monroe create her Hollywood name in 1946. He said that she remined him of Marilyn Miller, and Marilyn wanted Monroe because it was her grandmothers original last name. He said it was a great name and so she went from Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe. Both ladies are in this video. Wow!
I'm 75 & remember many of these individuals when they were alive & performing! For some reason, I have even 'run into' roughly 3 dozen famous personalities in person & spoken to or had my picture taken with them! Today, with the advent of cell phone cameras, etc., this is much more common, but in the 1950-60's-70's, it was much harder to do, unless you carried a camera
For my case, I have been obsessed with both Monroe and Valentino for a long time and I was pleasantly surprised to see Monroe then seeing the next one after her was Valentino in the video.

Maybe with some of them but not all of them especially with James Dean who died on instantly on impact from the car accident and the beautiful gorgeous Sharon Tate and the others were brutal viciously stabbed over a dozen times in chest and the heart area I don't think they would had survived that if they got medical attention right away maybe Sharon Tate's unborn son would had survived from what I had heard. But the others they didn't stand any chances at all very heartbreaking and unfortunately.

....You did a fabulous job with this list of Old Hollywood and Singing stars who died far too young. But How about Jeff Chandler (1918-1961) . Jeff played Cochise in the James Stewart cowboy movie "Broken Arrow" (1950). He died after complications after surgery at 42 years old.
