👑👑👑 I'm in the midst of releasing my dream miniature brush as well as some wonderfully sculpted miniature busts mid June 2020. It's something I'm really proud of and been working on for the better part of the last year. You can already pre register your interest on my Kickstarter page: bit.ly/3dKjmnz 👑👑👑
Great message. I'd love to be better with my blending. At the moment it feels like I have no exact process but just smear paint until it looks good. I'd like to try out some other people's methods to see if I can get something that's more procedural.
I'm a noob and I hope by the end of this year I'll be painting my first hobby piece. Your videos are so inspiring to watch, as a 53 year old I feel like I'm rediscovering mini's again. As a kid and teen I created D&D worlds, played DOOM, and wrote code for my own pc gaming pleasure in the late 70"s and through all of the 80's. But life happened in year 89 and I grew up.
I'm still pretty new so my "new" might be boring hah. But I'm going to try Contrast paints next! As well as priming in black and doing a zenithal highlight in white. Looking forward to doing both for the first time.
Thank you for the inspiration! I have two sons, Last year I was going through my old Warhammer stuff that I had not touched sins they were born and they had a blast looking at all my minis and I let them play some with them. When going through the old models I got really nostalgic and the urge to start painting again was really strong. Last fall when my oldest son turned 8 we went to Gothenburg and stoped by GW and I bought a small starter set of 40K with the Ultramarines and the Nurgles and we started painting them together and I realized how much I enjoy painting. I started following a lot of miniature painters on instagram and youtube to see what I have missed sins I stopped painting almost 10 tears ago and Boy do people paint som crazy beautiful stuff!! I discovered a loot of youtube painters when the Citadel Contrast paints came out and everyone made reviews of them. I especially fell for the Ultramarine you painted. I have always had difficulties painting nice Spacemarine armour but now I have a bunch of Ultramairines and a lot of new inspiration. I saw you were using some kind of bluish green color that looks amazing for the highlighting and the way you place the highlight is new to me. Now I have started to experiment on the Ultramaines to try and achieve a similar effect but with te colors that I got from the starter sets. I'm even going for som NMM for the gold :) Really fun to rediscovering the hobby!
Thank you for reminding me with a real world application of something I was taught a long time ago: The master has failed more times than the apprentice has ever tried at all.
I've been painting for a few months, loving every step of the learning experience. What is frustaiting as a beginner is always feeling the need of more and more paints. More often than not I found myself not painting because of this. So to try to solve this and keep developing my painting skills i've decided that on my month of holiday (August), I'm going to paint everyday and not buying a single pot of paint. If I don't have a color, I mix others or simply take the risky (and rewarding) route of experimenting.
I started painting again 6 months ago after a 20 year + hiatus and started with the citadel base paint set. First mini was a death guard standard bearer and it came out fine. My point here is that I completely agree with what you have said in terms of colour mixing. The limitation of a basic palette forces you to think and improvise about how to best use what little you have. Now I have a much wider pallet but still only 40 +/- paints and washes which I buy every so often but only when I feel I really can't achieve what I want to with my existing colours. I think that just as in life having it all too quickly actually stops you from learning, screws you up because you don't appreciate what is crap and what is good and it also makes you lazy and uninventive.
Well you can always just stick with yellow, blue, red, black and white in each “family” of paints (base, layer, ink) then a set of washes and metallics. You can then use those basics to mix colours as you like. The only thing is that getting the colour consistent from one session to another can be tricky.
Just watching your videos has driven me to clear my workspace, dust off them half built mini's and jump back into it! Great motivation man! Love your work and thank's for all your content, please keep up the amazing work!
I just started painting in the past few weeks and I'm working on my third mini. This one is essentially color blend, color theory, technique, and detailing. Thank you for having such an inspiring channel!
"Paint bravely." ExMy challenge, starting to paint minis again after over 10 years of not touching a brush. I've been playing with 3D printers for several months, and just bought a resin printer. So now I'm watching a small number of painters to get ready to start back into it all. And your videos are really inspiring...thank you for this one especially.
I've been painting miniatures for nearly 40 yrs and just started printing with an anycubic photon and your video has inspired me to try some new techniques to help bring new life my hobby. Thank you
Sorry if the Music is a bit loud. Didn't hear it when editing but for some reason after the export and uploading i find it way too loud. Hope it's OK! :) Ending the giveaway tuesday 22.00 central european time 13/8/2019.
At 8.57 into video you mention your favourite painter that you learn much from- could you please post a link to his site or name of the site, cheers and great channel you have.
the reason might be that the level of the audio was pretty high and youtube put a limiter on it. That made your voice quieter while maintaining the music at the same level. Should this problem persist, you might wanna try to lower the master volume while editing and see if this changes something! p.s. very nice video btw :)
Hi I am glad I found your channel as I am just getting ready to start my first miniatures. I was wondering since I like to shoot high, what is a golden diamond? Is that an award of some kind? I did a search but did not find anything on this. Thanks in advance!
My Goal is to print and paint 20 of the same miniature trying a new technique on each and documenting them. I am setting a reward for this. Higher quality brushes and paints. Thanks for the motivation. My son and I are super new and excited about painting! We watch your videos together. He asked me to tell you he thinks your videos are the best.
I just started painting again after 4-5 years. It is a thrill to jump back in. I am trying and have tried a lot of new things. Thinnig my paints for The first time, glazing and wet blending. It’s a whole new world with those new technics and i’m really exited to try even more.
Great to hear! The scene has changed allot thanks to youtube and the way that games workshop teach as well on their channels! I had so much fun getting back to painting after a 16 years break!
I've just returned to miniature painting this week after 13 long years. Warcry renewd my interest in wargames and with it I rediscovered how deeply I loved painting minis. I did one this week, it was messy but opposed to 13 years ago I dared to try to shade more, to work harder on highlights and I felt like even so much time has passed I have improved just by trying to do more. Your video convinced me to go on this path, to keep trying to do things that previously I used to think were tecniques that only pro painter could do. I will mess up. I will do a lot of mistakes. And I am so looking forward to make messy mistakes and to enjoy every one of them having fun in the process and, maybe, becoming better while I do it. Thanks for the great video!
I have the same rule, that I try something new with every figure, because I don't have that much time painting tons of miniatures, so I have to make them count. In 3-4 years I've managed to improve a lot this way, even if I put a new figure next to one from last year, the difference is quite big. Sergio's guides had a big impact on me aswell, with his technique painting becomes much more fun and you see results faster. I really like your channel, keep up the good work :).
I gave up on miniature painting in high shool because my attempts were laughed at. You rekindled my interest for the hobby. After almost 30 years, I started working on a Blood Bowl team. Thank you Squidmar. Love your videos. Happy New year from Montreal Canada.
I am very new to the mini painting hobby and plan on painting many more minis. I've have been trying new techniques and was watching and searching for more videos about learning and found myself here. Thank you very much after watching your video it has given me creative inspiration on how I will paint my minis from now on.
With the way you paint you inspire me to do more complex things and not be afraid to make mistakes, thanks for your time and advice that I learned a lot.
I have been watching your videos over the past two weeks now. The newer stuff and the old. I stumbled on this by chance today and the challenge I'm going to take is to start warhammer again. I stopped at around 16 and now at 27 watching these videos its inspired me to pick up a brush again and return to a hobby I enjoyed for so long.
@@SquidmarMiniatures thanks for the reply! Always nice to know fans are heard. I have been browsing the games workshop website at the start here sections, various paints etc. What would you recommend as a good starting set including paints or purchased separately? Again thanks for the time and content you create.
My new thing is actual mini’s you purchase. I started with a 3D printer and I just bought my first mini’s a week ago. I maybe painted 100+ 3D printed minis before getting real ones. Some of your techniques helped me when it came time to try it. I have a couple cool ones I am holding onto until I get better! Thanks!
Thanks a ton for the positive message. I'm working in trying out NMM for the first time. I just finished trying out a challenge where I painted a Tau commander shadowsun in Borderlands style. It was kinda scary but I love it, and I'm kinda impressed with myself. It's helped my self esteem over the past year. Thanks for the videos and keep it up!
Those eyes are amazing. I don't always watch your videos and sometimes I just play them in the background and listen to them. I clicked back on the video and the first thing I saw was the eyes. For a second I thought they were actually shining haha. Proper job man!
Your challenge to paint bravely is so inspiring! I received the new GW Ogroid Myrmidon mini in the mail last week. Thanks to your challenge, I have finally attempted wet blending! I'm not super happy with the results, but for a first try I hardly be too upset. I will continue to try new things so that I can continue to improve!
I'm just getting back into painting after 10+ years and this video basically captures what I'm trying to do. Trying to paint up whole armies and streamline the process killed all the fun of painting for me, so this time around I'm sticking to individual or small groups of models and trying new techniques like glazing, wet blending, and mixing the paints I have more than trying to get every shade and staying in my drybrush/wash comfort zone. Thanks for all the awesome videos and keep up the good work! They've been a great inspiration and I grabbed my first wet palette thanks to you :D
Love the channel. I'm fairly new to this miniature painting hobby. Took up tabletop roleplaying games about a year ago. I plan on challenging myself with my first miniature war game. I picked up Star Wars Legion and a couple expansions. It's more minis then I've painted in total so far. I'm about halfway through painting them and getting better by the day.
I appreciate the inspiration. I just bought a bunch of Frostgrave minis... I plan to paint up four different warbands using the following techniques that are relatively new to me: Zenithal priming Highlighting and shading the primer coat Using washes as base coats And using Citadel Contrast Paints
I am starting to paint miniatures again after exactly 20 years, I have stumbled in to your channel and...BOOM! the fever is running high again. I have just ordered some D&D minis for me to restart over again, only this time...well I am going to involve my son! next generation nerd coming up!!!
Ive been having a very difficult time getting really involved with painting because of my fears of failing. I need to stop looking at my failures as disasters and start to view them as lessons. Even though i just started watching your channel, i really feel your genuineness and am encouraged to get over that fear stalling ive been doing. As you said if I can learn to paint bravely I will advance and have more fun at a faster rate while painting. Thank you good sir.
Welcome mate 😊 it's a hard thing to get over. And trust me I had that problem too. I felt like shit when I started painting. Models didn't turn out the way I wanted. But one you get over it and just do. It becomes much more fun!
@@SquidmarMiniatures I look forward to fallowing you and learning much. I do have a question about high detail metal miniatures for you, i dont know if you have heard of Infinity the Game by Corvus Belli, but they produce super detailed 25mm futuristic miniatures. Ive been assembling them and trying to figure out a paint scheme that is easy and yet still eye catching. Im having difficulties, due to their complexity, figuring out what colors should go where. Do you have any suggestions on color schemes/tips for someone who gets a little overwhelmed on color placement...... other than just do it. lol
Great message! Recently I took a huge step out of my comfort zone and grabbed an airbrush, and inks. Holy crap I LOVE inks! I did a quartet of nighthaunts with them and am beyond happy with the results
I've been painting for a while but entirely self taught, so I only turned to youtube for tutorials and information in the last month or so (compared to 2+ years of painting). Right now I can do pretty good base coats, highlights and details, but I'm really excited now to get into some more advance/technical things. My goals at the moment are glows coming from source lights like a magical spell, darkness as if the model is hidden in shadows or it's night time, and big contrasting gradients such as black-red-blue-white. I recently tried them all on a mage and a rogue I did for dnd and both look pretty terrible, but it feels good knowing another mage I try down the road is going to have a much neater gradient on his robes and more realistic lighting!
Hey! Im a firefighter paramedic and just recently injured my hand on the job. Currently it is in a cast and i cannot wait for it to heal so I can return to work but more importantly paint! After watching this video you motivated me to challenge myself to paint with one hand! Its different and very challenging. Currently working on some nurgling swarms. Keep up the good work and keep inspiring others!
I just attempted a detailed subassembly paint job for my first painting competition at my local game shop. I too enjoy learning about new techniques and do my best to employ them in each new project
You have inspired me to break out my airbrush again. I've used it to paint terrain and to prime my models before painting, but with a complete hoard of plastic miniatures to paint, I will need to learn how to use it more effectively in order to paint more quickly and spend my hobby time more wisely. I'm also motivated to start my own blog and TH-cam hobby channel.
Yes somewhere in my collection of Vallejo paints I am sure I have that exact range, so thanks for reminding me that when new stuff arrives I at least try it out! Cheers!
You are abselutely right! I try to find the right balance between comfort and challenge. These days i'm re-purposing an old Iwata HP-C airbrush from the 80's to paint miniatures and it's quite challenging to switch from purely paintbrush to airbrush assisted. last couple of months I tried painting with layers instead of going with my old drybrushing.
I always considered myself slow painter and never painted more than 3 minis at a time, so I decided to learn speed painting. First batch was 40 and then I scaled it up to 50 miniatures. I had much more fun painting that amount of figures then I thought.
I literally painted my first mini yesterday and it was a blast. Had only watched a couple youtube videos about basic techniques and i've now stumbled onto a couple different advanced technique channels. I ordered 2 models from hero forge and my challenge for myself is to apply any and all techniques from watching a few of your videos, even if the model doesn't turn out how yours does it's all a learning process. I'm excited to get some different brushes and utilize different washes for different tones.
I started painting miniatures just about a month ago and due to the fact that I didn´t even know if I would enjoy it, I just started with some robots I had lying around in from a board game (Robo Rallye). I had really much fun but I didn´t know if it was enough to call it a hobby... ...so I followed by challenging myself to paint my 100 zombies from the game "Zombies!!!". I am almost half done, with cheap brushes, extremely cheap paint, learning how colors work together, how much paint is necessary to have a smooth look, how to dry brush, etc. The most important thing is just to get paint on your miniatures, whether it´ll look great or awful, at least you can learn something from it and at the end of the day its just a (nice) piece of plastic that you can enjoy...or just move on to the next mini!
Loving your videos. For me the next challenge is starting with a zenithal prime, but before that it’s getting a project completed. I’ve been in the hobby for 16 years but never really committed to a painting challenge, but with our baby being born it changes perspective. Using your videos as inspiration to get an Armies on Parade GSC force and board completed. Really inspiring stuff, please keep it up
Never tried chipping paint before. Decided to commit whole heartily and done a whole Tau army. It didn't quiet turn out the way i wanted but I have worked with it and am hoping with some shadows airbrushed on and more streaking, it will all tie together. The emotions always try to pull you down when things don't go the way you wanted but you gotta keep pushing to the end to see what the final look will do. I'm not at the end of it yet but everyday the project grows on me. Thanks for the video and always appreciate the actual thoughts and feels you toss into the commentary. Cheers
I know this is an older video but I just started painting minis again after a long time. I really appreciate that you challenge people to fail at something new but if you like it to keep doing it. The mini you did looks great and thank you for being honest in your videos. I’ll be buying the liquid gold paint that went on soooo smooth. Have a great day!
So inspiring. Thank you for what you do. I am brand new at mini painting (only painted two so far) so each time I pick up the brush I am trying something new.
Im improving my painting by focusing on one miniature at a time. Im actively painting and trying to correct fundamental issues. I also signed up for 2 classes in AUG with top painters to learn as much as possible. Lastly, i’m meeting with a paint club that discusses your work and helps on improving.
Nice vid! I started painting three month ago and i really enjoy it! Its a good way to relax and find some time for your self, besides the family and the work. I really want to become better and because of that i try often new techniques when i start with a new model.
My current challenge is painting a creature caster figure (biggest I've ever painted) for my first competition! I haven't been painting for long but a lot of people, pro painters, have said they wish they started competing earlier because the feedback you get from judges is SUPER helpful and you'll always push yourself to paint the best you can since it's for a competition
I recently got back into the hobby. I came to the conclusion of painting two minis a week, minimum, for 2 years and see how I feel by the end. Im loving it, and currently working with airbrushing inks over zenithal. So much fun.
This did it for me. I have been sitting on nearly 100 ork boys, and I'm new to the hobby. I want to get better, but I'm afraid to paint them. You've convinced me that I just need to try new things
I started working on more display stuff, with nice display bases. This makes me push myself to paint the minis better, and using more interesting thechniques!
I bought my very first miniature today! Got a Lord of Plagues from Nurgle set. Your videos are inspiring me to jump right in and not be afraid to make mistakes
i rediscovered my love for painting minis about a year ago after more than 13 years. i started by repainting some of my old fantasy minis - i was a disapointed with the outcome but i kept on it. Tried some more detailed minis from GW with mixed results so far. But i can see my improvement from one project to the next. So thx for those awesome tips. I'm sure they will help me to become a better painter
Thank you for telling me this. I've only paintIed seven minis and I'm on my 8th. But I instinctively as an illustrator knew I should keep experimenting and trying new things. It makes me feel more confident to have my notion confirmed.
Hey there, can completely relate to you! Motivating yourself by trying out new stuff inspired by youtubers like you just kicks off that learning process. Just got back into painting with a 8+ year abscence and i absolutely love trying out new techniques, working on nmm/rmm, contrast and layering. Every Mini i finish happy with just motivates me on trying out the learned on the next one. Thank you very much for this video! Kind of confirmes my very own recent experiences. Cheers :)
Hey! Great videos. I am not a very experienced painter, mostly painted warhammer40k staff, people say i am good)) My new, out of comfort zone project is painting some fallout\mad max minies and doing a little dioramas with them. Also gonna use some airbrush technics for a first time and oil washes. Very exited about that. As i said, i am new to painting minies and i think its great time to start, with all those people sharing technics, loads of miniatures from various manufactures. Well, thanks for good vieos, keep up the good work!
This is so inspiring Emil! Like I said before: You and Sergio Calvo really got me longing for holding a paint brush again. Shifting focus from pure technical how-tos to emphasising the joy and exploration of miniature painting feels really refreshing. Thank you.
I'm a very new miniature painter and I've been using each new mini to experiment with something specific, like my last one was an experiment in skin tone highlighting that I'm really freaking proud of! Next is more authentic-looking metal. The point is, the advice to just go for it and try new things is great! For a long time, I didn't paint because I had the mini's and I had the paints and the brushes but I was afraid to mess it up. But messing up is the only way to learn :)
I was amazed to hear how fast your channel was growing, until I checked it out. WOW! amazing paint skills. I will most definitely be breaking my go to paint pallet to try and grow my skills. I've always just tried new things that I see from TH-camrs. Now it's time to experiment. I've already started going for more extravagant bases, and that has really upped the look of my finished minis. Loved your video on the water splash effect base. Now to experiment with color. Grats on all the attention your channel is getting. It's definitely due to your skills and perfectly laid out tutorial.
I'm going to improve myself in the next few months by being mindful about planning out my miniatures. I've decided on making a diorama with a limited amount of minis and a base / diorama setting already determined which should help me figure out how to do the lighting and colouring. I really enjoy doing detail work so before I start on that, I'm going to do test models where I'll experiment with colour spray paints as base coats for consistency and speed. I'm really looking forward to painting bravely :)
I’ve never considered 3D printed miniatures to be paintable due to rough surfaces, the “tier” effect they sometimes have, and softness of details. But...jeez, this miniature in the video looks like terrific quality! And you painted him very well of course. I can’t think of how I’ll challenge myself at the moment, simply because my current challenge is “get back to painting after a long break”
Yeah, I print allot terrain, rough surface is fine there. But this quality is just great. Similar to maybe mantic or the old gw plastic - but in your home! Ah man, that's one of the toughest blocks. My best way of getting back is to build some simple miniature just to get something done. Usually that makes me excited about painting again!
I felt the same until I discovered the Anycubic Photon S. Resin printer with 3l of resin for 400$. And the detail is amazing... Bought one, never looked back. Still happy and convinced about the purchase
love this idea. I'm going to work on contrast with my minis and doing more layering instead of just washes. I got pretty lazy when I strated my ork army for 40k and just washed all my minis and didn't really do any highlights for fear of messing it up. So I'm really gonna try to up my game with highlights. specifically using a crap ton of layers to try and achieve some super creamy blends.
@Squidmar I'm going to improve dramaticly, after a LONG LONG break I'm going back into miniature painting. Got a box of Blackstone Fortress, all the model building stuff, but not yet got the paints (all my old stock is dry as a bone). But once I have glued and primed them there will be a round of paint shopping. And plan is to start this Friday :)
I got my untamed beasts and after watching your painting tutorial I'm motivated to paint the muscles nicely. I'm usually a base n wash kind of painter.
I started recently, and I've only painted a handful of minis so my challenge is to just get comfortable with the process. I've been pretty happy with my results so far, but I feel like I'm taking way to much time to do even little things. I know that if I keep practicing everything I do will speed up (and get better at the same time).
I just purchased an elegoo mars (resin 3d printer) and i became patreon of artisan guild (highly recomended). Every month they release a full pack of miniatures, including heroes, beasts and mounts. My purpouse for 2020 is improve my painting skills by painting those highly detailed designs, trying new techniques rather than painting 10 gw miniatures at once like i've been doing lately.
Love thus channel! I do want to point something out though that I have seen on a lot of other channels. I totally agree that we should all experiment and keep improving but it's not easy for a great deal of people. Miniatures /warhammer as a hobby is expensive and a lot of people don't have miniatures to waste on unsuccessful/experimental paint jobs. It's much easier for youtubers who get things sent to them etc. Love the channel, love the video. Just wanted to mention this. 👍
So, I started painting again after about 6 years. Picked up some Tau Pathfinders from GW's Warhammer 40k, they were the cheapest per model set I could find that I had any interest in painting and I bought them just to try new stuff out on. The one I'm working on now is entirely new techniques for me; zenithal Undercoating, glazing, magnetizing parts, the whole 9 yards. I screwed up a dry brushing attempt and the dark green glaze I put on, so to "fix" the blotchy armor, I used some liquid mask to cover parts of the armor and layer on some different temperatures of brown to develop a camo pattern, alternating brown and mask so the pattern was completely random but didn't look like disjointed blobs of paint. It wasn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it looks way better than the uneven green did, and it helped make the undercoat pop a little bit more. I plan on using the water technique from your video about water bases to make a swampy base. Maybe when it's done I'll send you a picture somehow. Anyway, thanks for inspiring my painting with your videos.
Just started painting (10 minis in) and discovered the great channels that are out there. Yours being one of them! Thanks for the content. My next challenge (since it's ALL a challenge) is zenithal priming!
My personal challenge is to use 2 part resin effects in my basing. On project I plan to work on very soon is making a summoning pool for the Andvare miniature from Nocturna. Cheers.
@@SquidmarMiniatures I did the pour this evening. I'll send you a few photos once it's dried. I'm hopeful that's it's going to look decent. I had to get brave and paint some freehand swirling patterns in the water.
My challenge is to be more confident in my work and try to help more people especially those starting out. Finish things and post pictures of them. I was always afraid to because the internet can be cruel (not to mention self-doubt,) but, our hobby has an awesome community and collaboration, focused practice, and experimentation change the hobby when applied together.
My challenge is for the moment to go from dark and brownish colortheme on almost every mini to a more fun and happy vibrant colortheme. This videos from Danny, you and goobertown maked me want to buy a 3d printer so mutch!!!
Just rewatched this video. I just got my first airbrush. Learning the aspects of airbrushing is what I’m working on. Also I just bought my first inks (also my first non GW products!) so looking forward to getting into those! 😊
Wow, I have to check out the kick starter and 3D Printing Tabletop. That bugbear looked amazing! I saw that Goobertown Hobbies did Lizardmen. Both of you did a great job representing what a 3D model can look like. After talking with you during your last video, my challenge to myself it to try wet blending. I have a displacer beast that has enough large surfaces for me to practice the technique. Thank you and Cheers!
ive been trying different things recently as a new painter watering down paint was one of the first things i experimented with personally i dont water down as much when painting mass produced weapons as it makes them look worse quality its a small thing that others would say removes quality from my work but to me its getting experience and i think it adds a bit of depth to see a rough looking vehicle with a pristine soldier in
First congratz are in order, for the channel, your ever increasing level or work, and most importantly congratz for the baby. As for the challenge, well like others im brand new to the hobby so everytime i pickup a brush or an airbrush im learning a new skill to add to the tool box. I think because ive spent so much time thinking about the models themselves the bases have almost been an afterthought, i mean to change that. Im trying to think more about the narrative of my space wolves so the world in being formed in the minds eye, now executing the thought is a different story. Cheers!!!!
Trying something new with every miniature is among the best advice you can ever give or get. I'm trying to adhere to that, too, and it's amazing how much it not only improves your skills and results, but also your enjoyment of painting. Listen to this man's wisdom!
My next great challenge is going to be painting non-traditional skintones on my slaanesh daemons. I'm hoping to create some sort of vibrant pink flesh (not pale) that looks great on the table as well as close up. I also wanna challenge myself using my airbrush more in smaller details than i am normally comfortable with. Thank you for the great content!
I just got back into painting after a .....20 year break. Yeah yah I know...but, Ive painted a few in the past few days, weeks, Ive def seen myself get better, then I thought, hmm, let me see if there any other dorks like me out there....and I found your channel...I quit. Seriously. Ive never been so humbled in my own mind in seconds. I thought I was doing swell painting the little eyeball with one hair brush...and using household spices for shrubs or sand or whatever. Dude. Im serious. my mind is literally sad right now. Maybe my minis are just too small? What is the size of yours? Thank you so much for raising the bar!!
I am completely new to miniature painting. Got Army Painter Adventure set and started to work on Minsc & Boo miniature. I would love to try some dry brushing techniques over it and some highlighting on the armor. Great video by the way! Thanks!
This is a super motivational video! I'm going to stop putting off or downright canceling projects because i don't want to learn or improve on the techniques retired. To be specific I'm going to finish my everchosen army and 2'X2' board, and start my iron jaws army!
Honestly i have two ways I've started to improve. The first is that i have started setting myself a required amount of painting/assembly/sculpting time each week. To some this may seem like a bad idea (too much like work) but i enjoy a small amount of structure. Plus i am also the type that progress/produces better if i work thru my creative road blocks, instead of jumping to a different hobby. If i do that i tend to put the project down for TOO long and come back to it feeling like i should start from scratch. If i need a slight change, i go to a different model, sculpt a bit, or build more of a kit. I started with a very short time, and increased it each week. If i wanted to go longer so be it (sometimes u get in a groove). Secondly i started exposing my models more. I currently dont play warhammer or any wargames yet (trying to decide on an army) but i do play d&d,pathfinder, shadowrun. So ive been using my models in games more often, as well as entering in some painting contests. So far ive only entered a few local gamestore ones that didnt have alot of competitors, but just the feedback from other local painters and friends can be tremendously helpful. Plus its neat to see another persons take on a minature that you may have gone a different way with so that you can pick their brain. To sum up: 1. JUST DO IT, and 2. FIND OUT WHERE YOU SUCK (ha, and obviously where u didnt).
Squidmar WoW! I love painted mini figures. Ive tried painting a few. They are really not the greatest. My hands shake a lot so its harder for me to do some of the finer details but this video makes me want to run to the local game store and buy some of their older stuff and keep practicing . Thank you.
I love the support these channels have for each other, it genuinely makes me enjoy their content more
I'm a noob and I hope by the end of this year I'll be painting my first hobby piece.
I'm even going for som NMM for the gold :)
Really fun to rediscovering the hobby!
Thank you for reminding me with a real world application of something I was taught a long time ago:
The master has failed more times than the apprentice has ever tried at all.
Thank you
Congratz on the everchosen win
Thx mate! Was incredibly tight here in our store, so happy i manage bring it home! :)
Sorry if the Music is a bit loud. Didn't hear it when editing but for some reason after the export and uploading i find it way too loud. Hope it's OK! :)
Ending the giveaway tuesday 22.00 central european time 13/8/2019.
it's ok, bro
@@labpartners3490 hey, it's a competition called golden demon, the biggest warhammer miniature painting competition :)
I Just started a couple days ago and started painting my first minature, iam really Happy i found your Channel.
I'll be improving my painting this year by learning and trying a new technique each time I paint a new model! Thanks for the encouragement!
That's so awesome Therese! There will be a getting started video in the coming weeks :)
@@SquidmarMiniatures thanks for the reply! Always nice to know fans are heard.
I have been browsing the games workshop website at the start here sections, various paints etc. What would you recommend as a good starting set including paints or purchased separately?
Again thanks for the time and content you create.
@@daveyd5690 ill cover that in the video. :)
Man, you have such a positive channel! I am super happy that I stumbled upon your content. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
50K worth of new subs in the 4 months since you did this vid says alot about how good this channel is. well done and keep it going
amazing to see our sculpt painted with such talent, great job!
I plan to paint up four different warbands using the following techniques that are relatively new to me:
Zenithal priming
Highlighting and shading the primer coat
Using washes as base coats
And using Citadel Contrast Paints
My current goal:
Don't make a mess with the miniature.
I agree with everything you said. Failling is just as important succeding because you still learn something.
I just painted my first miniature last weekend. So pretty much everything I do right now is new.
I always considered myself slow painter and never painted more than 3 minis at a time, so I decided to learn speed painting. First batch was 40 and then I scaled it up to 50 miniatures. I had much more fun painting that amount of figures then I thought.
As a new painter I found this video very encouraging. I’ll be challenging myself to paint more and build my basic skills up.
Great mini and great philosophy! :-) I just got vallejo liquid silver myself ... it's incredible. It changes everything.
Great to hear man! I felt that after i painted 3-4 months was when i started improving the most. You have some fun times ahead!
@@SquidmarMiniatures got to hear that! i allready have a lot of fun with painting
@@SquidmarMiniatures the next thing i will try is how you painted the skin from the warcry mini.
That step is so much fun to take! Deliberate painting and building is one thing that also make you grow quickly!
I am going to give painting a try. Bought a bundle of the D&D paints and minis! Wish me luck.
Thank you for telling me this. I've only paintIed seven minis and I'm on my 8th. But I instinctively as an illustrator knew I should keep experimenting and trying new things. It makes me feel more confident to have my notion confirmed.
I'm going to wet blend for the 1st time tonight.
I’ll get started - as simple as that. I’ve been building minis but never got the courage to paint them. I’ll try painting my LoTR elves this week!
Wow that liquid gold paint is pretty
Model looks great.
Enjoy watching you paint, keep up the great work
I'm going to improve myself in the next few months by being mindful about planning out my miniatures.
I've been trying new things with basing to get more character out of them than simply using pre-made bases or texture paints.
After watching your video on painting the untamed beast dude, I decided to learn and try to paint skin and highlight it the way you did.
I got my untamed beasts and after watching your painting tutorial I'm motivated to paint the muscles nicely. I'm usually a base n wash kind of painter.
Going to really work on basing, and implement feathering where I can for smoother blends.
Cheers.
Sounds like it will be epic AF. Show me some later!
@@SquidmarMiniatures I did the pour this evening. I'll send you a few photos once it's dried. I'm hopeful that's it's going to look decent. I had to get brave and paint some freehand swirling patterns in the water.
Exciting 😊
Just treid a lot of new stuff today :D funny that your vid covers this topic today !
ive been trying different things recently
as a new painter watering down paint was one of the first things i experimented with
personally i dont water down as much when painting mass produced weapons as it makes them look worse quality
its a small thing that others would say removes quality from my work but to me its getting experience and i think it adds a bit of depth to see a rough looking vehicle with a pristine soldier in
I adore Danny, he's such a genuine friendly dude. You're not too bad either! 😜
Thank you.
