  • We're going live, taking your questions and comments, in the aftermath of a titanic British GP. Sir Lewis Hamilton not only took the chequered flag first: he also beat Max Verstappen and Lando Norris - and the ever-changing track positions. So how big was that win in the career of the seven-times champion? Was Max's drive half-full or half-empty? And would Lando have won had he chosen a new set of Pirelli mediums for the last stint? There's lots to talk about and lots to question so join Peter's latest livestream on TH-cam chat this Thursday, July 11, at 19:30 CET.
    Note: in this livestream Peter makes reference to Mark Donohue racing the Penske McLaren to P3 in the 1971 USGP. He did so in the Canadian GP, not the USGP.

    Peter McLarens pit stop wasn't the mechanics fault, Lando went long in his box and they all had to adjust which is where the extra time came from

    Very interesting to hear your comments about Lando on Softs and it being the wrong decision. Many people, like me, thought Lando/McLaren made a mistake by going to the Softs. Of course, if McLaren and Landos' expectations were that Lando would be leading, not Lewis, then it wasn't a poor decision at all. Lando not hitting his mark on the pitstop, and perhaps him staying out 1 more lap, is the real reason why he didn't win the race. Very illuminating.

    The 2026 regs anger me too as it is more fake overtaking like drs. Drivers are forgetting how to race for a proper overtake now just using DRS instead because it’s there. We want to see a fight and battle over numbers of laps or brave overtakes like the past it’s what racing is. Hate this artificial racing we have now and the tyres jeez they can’t push on them fully what is the point in that it’s been bad since Pirelli came in having to stick to a prescribed must degrade to replicate Canada 2011 it’s never worked and tyres still overheat and grain etc tyre pressures sky high no proper grip. They need to sort tyres out yes degrade but not on the level they are now can’t even go one full lap on a soft it’s wrong!

    Hi Peter, totally agree on DRS but they should tune it better at the circuit. For example at Silverstone the Hanger straight drs zone is too long making overtaking too easy

    Best first lap ever? He didn't get penalised for driving off track and gaining advantage. There was also an agreement by all team principals that because of the close season, Abu Dahbis result had to be achieved by racing. Not behind a Safety Car. You seem to forget many details to suit your own narrative.

    @33:36 does this not contradict what Jenson Button said about Lewis’s Driving style? He said Lewis always broke as hard as he could but came off the brake at the exact same rate and then in with the power and any corrections needed were done with the steering wheel.

    Already made a comment about DRS and why I think it should be scrapped and any aero that acts like it as it’s fake overtaking. Anyway, after all these years with DRS why didn’t they make it so you use it but as soon as the car is at a certain level with the car they are overtaking the DRS closes? The fly by way it has been used is just too much and no challenge.

  • @DrVaticinator
    @DrVaticinator 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Make the cars less aero dependent through regs, like in the sixties, so cars can be close. IndyCar does this but it is spec racing, yuck. But IndyCar does put on some great racing.

    Nice work, Peter. What I would like you to do is mosy along to your local RAF base where their is fighter pilot training. Now you won't pass a complete medical or even eye test. But they have virtual spatial orientation and situation awareness tests. It is not necessarily related to combat flying but there are 2 parts of of the brain apart from visual defence that process the input you are presented with. You either have it or you don't. You won't know if you don't. 1 in 2000 to 4000 will fail and they will be tracked to transport or tanker aircraft maybe even A10s. Schumacher would not be able to be a fighter pilot and neither would Hamilton. Mansel, Senna, Hakkenen, Lauder would. Oval racing requires this gift and Mansel, Clark, Hill and Alonso had it in spades. Remember when Hamilton took 8 laps to pass Alonso in Hungary. Louis had no idea what Alonso was doing. It is one thing to go fast in the fastest car, but add some traffic. You can do a wonderful acrobatic routine but if another plane has a machine gun, the situation changes drastically. Please visit the RAF.

      Fascinating ramble on your opinion on what F1 drivers would cut it either as Red Arrows or combat fighter pilots but let’s stick to F1 (a topic you clearly don’t know as much about as you think you do).
      Re: Hungary and the epic battle between Alonso and Hamilton, your summary was “Louis has no idea what Alonso was doing”. Apart from getting his name wrong (although I suspect that was contrived no?) you failed to understand the situation that day in 2021;
      1: Hamilton has won 8 times in Hungary (often when he didnt have “the fastest car” ie: 2007, 2009, 2012 & his first year in the pre regulation change Mercedes in 2013) so its quite obvious he is skilled in wheel to wheel racing on that circuit (and indeed on many others in his 17 years as an F1 driver).
      2: Behind Monaco, the Hungaroring is widely regarded as one of the most difficult tracks to overtake on (there are many sources on the internet you can confirm this - particularly a good one that quantifies average overtaking percentile by circuit vs. number of seasons on the F1 calendar where the Hungaroring is 2nd most difficult)
      3: In that particular race, Hamilton was fighting for another world championship whereas Alonso wasn’t and fiercely defended purely to hold up Hamilton to stop him challenging his team mate Ocon who eventually won the race for Renault - in short Hamilton couldn’t risk a DNF in his championship campaign so had to wait until Alonso made a mistake (after 12 not 8 laps).
      Those are the facts re: Alonso and Hamilton at Hungary 2021. Maybe choose another example to link your Top Gun & F1 theories but if you do, please get your facts in order first.

Max is quoted as saying "Since my Silverstone crash, I've been struggling with visibility problems, especially on undulating courses or those with lots of advertising boards along the side of the track," the Dutchman explained."In this race, I wasn't just battling against Lewis, but also against blurry images."

    Only the BRITISH media think Max is a dangerous driver, the rest of the world thinks he the best driver out there and hardly any media is trying to diminish him. Only the British media does this.
    Tbh Max is way and way better then Lewis who is exposed and exposed again, losing from teammates, been out qualified by ratio. Lewis is so entirely overhyped as a driver, the only excuse they bring up is his titles and racewins records after driving 100 years in F1 with car that had 150bph more then the rest of the field, but his driver skills arent goat material. Lewis career before F1 is so far off compared to Max its unbelievable its never mentioned by bias SKY Hamilton channel.. Lewis is choirboy before F1 compared to Max. Poor, no money story? No, Lewis had financial backup from Ron Dennis from the age of 12. Rainmaster..? well, Button ALWAYS won from Lewis when wet conditions, Button is not considered a rainmaster... so what is Lewis is then?? You got to f kidding me, hello British media you are making a complete utter joke of yourself..
