Amazing skills and creativity. We need people like you to continue being innovative with utilizing different ways to create homes. I want something on my land that's creative.
@@TomofAllTrades I'm looking to take the same journey. Just have to find building codes within my county. I'm not a builder, but will research more information.
Shango Husani yes that is where many people have been discouraged. If you have zoning regulations like we do it is harder. Many people have started a build and been massively delayed by not checking.
Wow! This is one unique build. I can feel the hours and days you must have spent researching how to do all this! I know I have! Hope you got all the other windows in place by now and that you feel more like the finale is coming soon. I just finished our outside and am looking forward to finishing the inside as well. All the best to you all!
love the video! Thanks for sharing. I am going to start taking down some grain bins this coming weekend and will be building in the near future. Appreciate the great information on how to mitigate water issues with the windows on the radial structure.
Polyurethane sealant that you would use on automotive windshields, mite work very well, Polly doesn't let go of anything it's applied to, not like a latex or silicone will, and Polly would have the flexibility your looking for, just food for thought, after all this is a new adventure for all of us, Polly will not be cheap. Great video nice job on the flashing and drip edge.
Do you have any detail images you can share on how you connected the shipping container to the silo? I am looking at a similair design on a 24 ft silo and 20 ft container.
Hey Great video. Do you have a list of where you purchased your supplies that are not typical to box stores. Example the window gasket that looks corrugated? We are starting two of these bins in the summer and we are trying to plan for them. Thanks in advance!
Unfortunately, no. I have the silo dried in but had to stop any major work for a bit. I had to go back to work and am only working on the silo during the weekends. It doesn’t leave any time to really shoot and edit video.
You would have to consult your local building department or zoning office. If your area has zoning you may need to have architectural drawings made and have a structural engineer approve those drawings. The cost would be comparable to a conventionally built home. It would not be cheaper as the labor costs are probably high if you were hiring a builder. Silo homes are in many states in the US, especially out west.
I’m using galvanized steel flashing coil stock as it is relatively available. I believe it’s 26 gauge. You would want to avoid the aluminum flashing as it would set up a galvanic reaction with the galvanized steel of the silo.
@@rjsuess3023 I would love to see some pics are you on Instagram or do you have posts on TH-cam. The video editing and shooting is real time consuming so I don’t post to TH-cam as much as Instagram (#silohouse_productions).

Shango Husani yes! A home should be an artistic experience and expression 👍🏼

Ingmar , I would love to see some pictures. Are you on Instagram or another media outlet.
Thorough and common sense. Good job. Video is fine.

Lee Waite , thanks.

Any updates on the silo? Would love to see it!
Enjoyed your video , been wanting to build one for a while ,how did you connect the container? It's probably on video so I better look !
Great job with the windows, especially with nothing out there to assist you!
Hey, thank you so much. I figured I could not find the info either and maybe someone could take what I did and come up with an even better way. 👍🏼
Tom, you have to keep making videos man. Once a month minimum!!!!
Gorgeous. How wide is it?
The silos are 27’ and 18’ in diameter. They are linked by 20’ shipping containers.
Is there a video for the finished silos?
Unfortunately, no. I have the silo dried in but had to stop any major work for a bit. I had to go back to work and am only working on the silo during the weekends. It doesn’t leave any time to really shoot and edit video.
How much are silo homes? What city state can I find those? Thank you

Tom of All Trades is there any particular state or city that is easy than others when it comes to coding laws? Thank you
Tom - what kind of metal are you use for the window trim?
