    This one has to be the slowest growing in my garden. It's been almost 3 months and they are still small plants without any signs of buds 😢

    • @episodefromthegarden
      @episodefromthegarden  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These can be a bit flaky depending the variety, climate, soil conditions etc. we have had mixed results with cosmos but this first time it went nuts. They need a lot of sun and relatively warm climate

      @@episodefromthegarden You're so right about warm temperatures and sun. The sooner it gets hot the more prolific the plant blooms, although cosmos can also withstand lower temperatures (around 10 degrees) and continue blooming into fall. Mine has been happily flowering. Not a whole lot but each bloom is a bundle of fragrance and joy.
      A small tip from my experience: if you live in a colder climate with a shorter growing season: start seeds indoors early and *pinch* the seedlings. I pinched twice (once indoors and once when their growth takes off outdoor). It will take time for them to develop buds, but when they do, the waves of new buds and flowers every day are so worth it.

    Wow so pretty! How far apart did you plant them?

    • @episodefromthegarden
      @episodefromthegarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks 😊! We planted them quite close by and barely thinned the seedlings. Maybe about a inch apart. But these are wildflowers and will do fine however. If they are close they tend to support each other when the grow big and unwieldy..😂

    • @episodefromthegarden
      @episodefromthegarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks 😊! We actually didn’t pinch it back. The first flower took a while and by then it had naturally branched. We were removing the spent flowers very often to prompt fresh ones..

    did you pinch off any flower buds that starting forming when the plants were still small? Mine are still fairly small but some have little buds forming so was thinking of pinching them off to encourage some more bulking out?

    • @episodefromthegarden
      @episodefromthegarden  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are many Cosmos varieties some are small and some grow tall and large. The variety we grew is in the description. I didn’t pinch off any buds. I just let them do its thing

  • @NatureSpeaks1
    @NatureSpeaks1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    They are so beautiful, mine are less than half a foot and already have buds and it’s only been a month. Is that a concern?

    • @episodefromthegarden
      @episodefromthegarden  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure. Is it the same variety? I’d just let them be and see what happens

  • @wonderingthoughts926
    @wonderingthoughts926 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My cosmos seedlings are now planted out and started to produce tiny buds, in the central stem of the plant. I pinched them off as the plants are still only about 30cm tall (if that).
    However buds seem to be re appearing already, shall I just leave them be? I planted them with the intention of filling gaps in my summer border this year so want them to grow bigger!

    • @episodefromthegarden
      @episodefromthegarden  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are many different cosmos varieties, some are short and some are much larger. The one we grew is in the link in the description. I didn’t mess with them once I planted. Just watered and occasionally fertilized. Mine didn’t put out buds until June. The seeds were sown around late March early April

    Hello. After that, do you resow the seeds again on the same pot? Do they die every year?

    • @episodefromthegarden
      @episodefromthegarden  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes these are annuals. The die in the end of the season

  • @Pari_Pixie
    @Pari_Pixie ปีที่แล้ว

    If I just throw these seeds out in my yard without planting them, will they still grow?

    • @Ceres4S2D1
      @Ceres4S2D1 ปีที่แล้ว

      They probably could, but I'd cover them with a thin layer of soil, just in case birds or squirrels try to eat the seeds. Plus, it'd make it easy to root and absorb water.
      Sowing works fine.

    • @episodefromthegarden
      @episodefromthegarden  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah generally we cover them lightly and keep it moist until it germinates.
