This is an excellent key learning and I am thankful for teaching. I have sorted out the exact same issue by changing the EFI relays. Once again thanks.
Looks like this is your very first video on the channel, even missing the 'Yo!" at the intro. Even so, pretty good editing and great content. Usually when a new problem happens after I touch a car, it's always my fault, somehow.
Thanks for sharing! I have a 2011 sienna, it has code p1604 two times. It runs good so far without check engine light on. The air filter was very dirty, I changed it and clear up the battery terminal. Should I do anything? will p1604 automatic go away? Thanks!
@@RustBeltAuto Hi my friend few years ago i was working on one car Lexus 2009 i was doing body work on the car after i finish painting the car the car start and die when you push the accelerated and the mechanic put the scanner and told me " is the alternator" and i say ok changed after he changed the same thing😰😰 and i say what? So i call the customer i told what happen and he say i have mechanic so he take his car from my place and his mechanic check the car and the same thing you did on this video it was the relay and the sensor on the airflow that's it .... I change the alternator for nothing..

Hello..my car Acccerating on 120kmph and engine stalls down to 2000rpm but the engine doenst shut off .and always have rich spark plugs and poor engine performance and rhe codes shows p1605 & 1604..i have change new spark plugs, new coils, serviced my throttle, change my fuel pump and fuel filter..but still getting p1604 & 1605
Possible rich "looking" from overly lean condition, not being able to produce a flame front. Use scan tool. Read STFT when driving. Spray flammabes like brake cleaner/carb cleaner around intake, and vacuum lines to see if STFT values go negative, indicating a leak. Test MAF, and make sure it's clean. That's where I would start. Other than that, i have no idea, because I'm not looking at it.
Hossayn Sakyb ShorkR wholly crap, it only took you 2 months to figure that one out. What a nightmare. Always difficult to test an ECU. Did it have the same codes?
My 2012 scion xb just started running badly, shaking the worst in reverse, some in drive & gets better in neutral. I got the p1604 & 1605 codes (and the temperature light, even when starting it cold). All brand new spark plugs, 2 new ignition coils, I sprayed throttle body cleaner into the throttle body. It doesn't die out but it feels like it wants to. Would a bad fuse cause these symptoms or would it for sure die out if the fuse is bad?
So it was the relay? because my 08 tundra did the start up and die routine this morning I watched the video changed the relay and it ran again as it should. I’m just wondering if I should expect this to happen again? I saw a comment about an ecu not sure if that is related to this video..?
Relay's usually last a very long time. It probably has something to do with the way the circuit is built. There is a diode built into the relay's to help protect the circuit from induction voltage spikes. My guess is the way this system is wired, all the windings in the circuit is creating too much induction, like how an ignition coil works. That's one reason why a reliable circuit needs to be as simple as possible. You start stacking relay's, and motor windings on top of each other too many times, and you can create capacitance/induction issues. It probably rarely happens in such a way that the engineer's/technicians never see it happen. Personally, after looking at a wiring diagram of the fuel pump circuit on that vehicle, I'm still perplexed at why they would do such a thing, and have never seen a circuit in a vehicle built like that, that I can recall. At this point, I will say your question depends, and I'm not sure.
Well I appreciate your feedback and the video for helping me solve my problem so quickly. I guess I should buy a spare relay and wait to see if it happens again. I’ve had a couple other issues with this truck all related to the electrical system. I currently have an undiagnosed issue with the AC system and another with the door locks on two doors which I’m guessing is the lock motors. The dealer I bought the truck from told me they swapped out the AC relay I’m almost wondering if I need to check that now.
Sienna 13, it’s not dying or anything but this code keeps showing on my FIXD code reader, wonder why, maybe coz I put 2nd bottle of fuel injector cleaner from Dollar Tree in the tank? Heard they can mess up sth
My one does the same and i took the immobilizer out because the battery was draining too. When i jump the battery, the car runs for 20+ mins and then cuts off otherwise its cuts off in 1-2 mins. Sometimes its like yours. What do you think?
Check charging system, battery and do a parasitic draw test. I would also check for any pending codes. They may not produce a check engine light. Best advice I can give you.
Thanks for the video. Have the same problem on 2011 Sienna LE. Starts then dies and gives me a P1603 error. Cleaned the MAF then replaced the Fuel Relay but still starts then dies...any ideas? Thanks!
A simple google search came up with this. Good luck! P1603 Code - General TCU Communication Error OBD-II code P1603 indicates an issue with TCU communication. There are communications that exist between the engine control module, or ECM, and the transaxle control module, or TCM. This communication is done through a control area network, or CAN. With the communication of the CAN, an independent pin and wiring is needed to receive a signal that includes sensor information from the ECM. The more information there is to communicate, the more wiring that is needed. When it comes to CAN communication, all of the information communicated is done alone control modules like the ECM and TCM using CAN lines. When there is a problem with these lines, the ECM will detect the problem and store a P1603 trouble code; the storing of the trouble code is what causes the SES or check engine light to illuminate on the dash. Possible causes of trouble code P1603 include: Faulty transaxle control module (TCM) Faulty engine control module (ECM) Harness running from the TCM to the ECM has a short There is a poor electrical connection between the TCM and ECM Diagnosing the exact cause of the problem should always begin with a visual inspection that could reveal bad wiring, loose connections, or damaged parts. From there, it is a matter of running down the list to determine what needs to be replaced. In general, a bad ECM will cause a loss of power, poor fuel economy, and stalling engine. While a bad TCM will have more prevalent transaxle issues like erratic shifting. While we have made every effort to provide accurate information, you should always consult a professional before making any repairs. The purpose of this guide is to explain the possible causes of Toyota trouble code P1603; it is not meant to be a definitive trouble-shooting guide or repair manual .
