I've always perceived this theme as melancholic rather than funny. It is indeed a great work of music, but that's how I feel about it. Anyone else feels the same?
Having revisited this theme after about 20 years, I 100% agree and had just told my friend the same exact thing. The chord progression itself is indeed very melancholy. It’s by far one of my favorite tunes.
Always thought that too. A bit melancholic, but with overwhelming integrity. I like to think it was at least partially written in honour of Peter himself, as well.
I always picture 70's France when I hear this. I didn't live in western Europe at that time, I'm from eastern and I'm 16 years old in fact. However, I grew up with old french comedies. This one isn't french, but I still think, that it captures the athmosphere perfectly.
Mancini really hit the nail on the head with this piece. Every time I hear the beginning I can clearly picture Sellers Clouseau character bungling some simple task in my head.
Another wonderful live performance by the late great Henry Mancini and his orchestra. Delicious piece of music. We all miss you, Mr. Mancini. R.I.P. Thank you so much, once again, for posting another great video, my dear Mr. EdWaldrup.
Maravillosa obra, interpretada de manera magistral. Para cerrar los ojos y transportarse a épocas pasadas y disfrutar de las interpretaciones de uno de los mejores actores del s.XX, Peter Sellers
I saw "strikes back" when i was 11... since then i was looking for this theme, i took me almost 30 years to find it again... thanks mister Mancini, it really is a work of art
My Fav is at the elevator scene (Trail / Pink Panther) where the simple task of getting to his apt with a bag of groceries becomes a duel with the bag of rice and the door key LOL
Brazil has some incredible music as well. I am a huge samba fan and a fan of Lalo Schifrin and Luis Bonfa, as well as Jobim just to name a few. Your country has some of the best musicians in the world.
You are right IamConnorMacLeod. Are you really 90 years old? Would you believe me if I told you that on the laser disk this is from Henry says that "Inspector Clouseau Theme" and "Bier Fest Polka" are from "Revenge" and that "Revenge" was the fourth of the series. Don't know if Henry was nervous, confused or what but that is where I was led down the path. The fourth in the series appears to have been "Strikes Again" and they were both used in that one. Thanks for being so sharp.
Does your dog bite? No monsieur............(Clouseau strokes dog.........dog bites him) I thought you said your dog does not bite? But monsieur that is not my dog!!!!! Don't be funny with me.Do you know who i am? I am Inspector Clouseau of the French Surete and i will av you arrested for wasting police time memories ah memories.........not now Kato you fool............................aaaaaagggh

Whenever I listen to this piece, I think of Peter Sellers. It’s a tribute to his character, Chief Inspector Clouseau.
Nope

This is one of my favorite instrumental pieces. It suites the character of Inspector Clouseau perfectly.
Que d'émotions et de sensibilité dans ce morceau
