i so agree, minhyuk is soooooo underrated. He is almost like an another leader of the group, but because it isn't his official position, he isn't really recognized for it. I also love how he babies especially Sungjae and Peniel during recording. He is so talented too. ALSO! Just watched your This Is Us concert, TT OMG I was laughing, crying the whole time with you. Great time with MElody. Thank you so much for it. It really made my day.
He really is so talented. Like true definition of all-rounder! I wish he was recognized more for his talent and not just his looks.
Omg so glad you were able to watch!! It was such a rollercoaster of a concert let me tell you 😂 they had like three happy songs and I was like omg this is fun! And then all of a sudden super emotional songs 😭 and then while I was still crying back to a fun song and I’m like waaaaaaeeeeee 😂

And yes there are different approaches depending on the members. Hyunsik for example is softer towards Sungjae/Peniel but is a bit harder towards Eunkwang 😂

I’ve now seen more of Minhyuk’s directing than hyunsik 😂 I’ll have to watch more in the future for sure! Hyunsik comes off so strict/direct lol

I think Minhyuk is more direct with Hyunsik and Changsub. He is softer with the other ones.
And Hyunsik is direct with all of them, he is so perfectionist. But I think Hyunsik praises Changsub a little more and he's a bit more demanding with Eunkwang. It's my opinion.
But they always are softer with Sungjae (maknae/Sun)
For sure! Nothing wrong with it at all 😂 I just find it interesting about their recording process and also I think it speaks to their relationship dynamics! But of course they all gotta be sweet to their maknae 😂

Their recording videos are some of my favorite content from them. About your question on how minhyuk directs changsub differently from peniel and eunkwang. I also got that feeling. From what i've seen of changsub's recording is that he tries more variations during the recordings and minhyuk tends to be more direct with what he wants while with eunkwang and peniel he encourages them to try different variations to narrow it down. I think that gives him various recordings to choose from for the editing part. Obviously it's hard to analyze that process with how little we see, i'm sure that was at least a 6 hour session. That was just what i got from it. Super impressive how they did this album during kingdom.
The recording content is soooo interesting! I’m not well-adversed in music and proper terminology but you can still see the work/effort they put in.
Yes I can see that, now that you say that! Changsub does kind of go crazy and try so many variations 😂 which helps Minhyuk be like “nah I want it this way” vs Eunkwang and Peniel where he has to be gentle about them trying different things. That’s so true!
I totally forgot this was during kingdom until these beatcoms. They’re wild for doing a cb in the middle of that 😭
13:21 if i need to describe minhyuk with one word that would be it: considerate. i feel like that’s his core character! it’s what made him such a great DJ when he did bikira. he always considered his guests personalities and matched the way he approached them with that~
also agree that minhyuk is very gentle when it comes to directing! he always begins with “i like how you did this but can you try doing it this way?” 😊
21:22 hear, hear!! minhyuk’s one of the few idols i can confidently say is an all-rounder. just because someone can passably rap, sing and dance doesn’t make them an all-rounder imo. they need to do them all with skill~
26:58 nice observation! never noticed that hahaha but hmmm to me, i think it’s more to do with minhyuk matching his directing with the members’ personalities. liiike, eunkwang (and sungjae) are both naturally playful and so minhyuk’s playful with them. on the other hand, changsub’s playfulness appears only when needed imo so minhyuk directs accordingly. it’s the same when he directs hyunsik actually! minhyuk’s pretty much straightforward with him, tho still incredibly gentle~ as for peniel well hahaha minhyuk’s always had a soft spot for him ever since they debuted!

I agree with you! Just because someone can sing/rap/dance doesn’t necessarily mean they’re an all-rounder. It’s being able to do all of those things on a higher level. And Minhyuk adds directing/producing/writing/arranging to that title as well.

27:00 Never noticed this untill now actually! Really like that observation! Minhyuk has a soft spot for all his members and he's a very considerate person, he adjust a lot according to the person he works with. I think his directing is down to the members personality. All the members describe Changsub as a rather serious person off-cam (although he has his spontanious goofiness), I think although Minhyuk treats him as a baby brother (although they are only 3 months apart it's like 3 years for MH) I think Minhyuk has a more serious relationship with CS off cam (talk more serious when having conversations), so therefor he's more straight to the point when directing him. I also think it's because he really value his voice and talents and simply want to get the best out of him. Eunkwang is MH soulmate bestie so he can be more playfull with him. I remmebers hearing once that according to the members Eunkwang is a perfectionsist and wants to record his songs as if he's singing them live, so he comes more well prepared I believe, while the other members don't think about it untill they are about to practice for the live shows (cmiiw).
Ek thinks about what technique to use when singing certain parts etc so it sounds better, in one of these bts recording sessions HS praised him for being prepared because they give out the lyrics and demo so they can prepare for the recording but IG Changsub and Sungjae are less prepared lol, EK, HS and the rappers I believe knows whats up, but I've noticed CS and SJ don't even know what note to sing in certian parts, they must have just heard the demo once and be like "sounds good" and that's it lol.
Peniel is Minhyuk's child basically lol he adores him. When Minhyuk works with other people he is very reassuring and lets them choose if they can do better and re-do their parts or if they are happy with the sound so they can move on. Hyunsik is actually similar but he's more comanding of his wishes since he's a big perfectionist. I assume Hyunsik is a bit more decisive on his songs if it needs more etc but he's also very reassuring on the sounds and encouraging but Minhyuk is a sweatheart basically. But he's similar with how he directs the members, he's harsher on Eunkwang though and softer on Minhyuk, actually lets him do his part without him directing sometimes. Peniel and Sungjae is all of the members soft spot so they treat them accordingly lol. But Hyunsik is a bit more comanding of the flow etc when directing Peniel, according to his vision of the song, so sometimes he makes Peniel re-write certain parts to fit the flow he wants for the song. I haven't seen enough of Ilhoon sadly :( but what I've seen is he's a bit like Hyunsik, also a perfectionist and rather serious but playfull when working with other artists.
