This is what I probably take as the best attitude, you know you would do a lotta more mistakes in final, so you rather gave up. Why not? It's probably the best you can do, like for real. Better to lose 10 fans for giving up than losing 100 fans for totally failing
Sagau did a mistake in his 2 round, he lost his feedback, that he needed to drop. So he decided to gave up, as you mention.
