Rest in peace, Robbie. Thank you for teaching me about the dance I never learned in school. God bless all the native Indigenous people of the Americas.
This explains my sadness in hearing the Ghost Dance music (that I remember dancing to in another life.) I think it is needed more than ever in this time era because of the people in power not caring for the land and those in desperate need. My prayers are with you that your people will be able to keep the traditional ways and faith in the Creator (no matter who we call Him.) He is the same for us all. Peace, joy, & prosperity Risa

My grandfather was adopted by a Lakota family when he was very young. Though my family and I do not actually have a Lakota blood lineage, I still feel great connection with Native Americans and their way of life. Thank you for posting this video.
I'm part Piaute, Sioux and Cherokee (Not full blooded but Wish I was) and this breaks my heart! I had read the book Wounded Knee, the one that had people writing letters in it. I didn't even get out of the introduction and I was already crying! I've got to find that book again!! But for this video, I'm glad I found it as it is informative, some, about the dance!
I so want to connect! I learned today, that Native American IS in my bloodline! I've had such a heart/spirit for the land here in Nevada! God Bless you! Shalom!
Actually several versions predated the great Ghost Dance. There was a southern version started by the' Shawnee Prophet' Tenskwatawa around 1800 and adopted by some of the Cherokee and Creek as well as the Kickapoo and Maumee. Versions of this ceremony continued through the 19th century with Wovoka's being the last. Wovoka's father Tavito or Tavibo taught the ghost dance as well. We have not given up hope that good times for us will return. For now we survive
This is an excellent presentation and it is a valuble part of American history. Rather than getting stuck in shame or taking pot shots at each other we should learn from it and be able to grow spiritualy.
This video is an excellent production about the history and truth of the Wovoka and the "Circle Dance" that came to known as the "Ghost Dance". I highly recommend everyone to watch and listen. He was a "messiah" just like Jesus, who brought hope to the Jews at a time when they were suffering from extreme oppression like the Natives here in the late 1800's.
Excellent video! As long as we remember them, their cultures won't disappear. Who knows, maybe centuries from now the U.S. as we know it will be gone and the native cultures will prosper once again.
The Ghost Dance was brought to Smohalla, a Wanapum Priest living at P'na on the Columbia River. His main lodge was at Coyote Rapids-you can still see the lodge outlines. He carried this religion all the way to the SW, the Plains states, etc-after he returned from the dead. The story can be found in the book "Drummers and Dreamers" by Click Relander-who knew the last of the Wanapum.
This is a great video! I am originally from Kanab, I know Piute, Hopi, and Navajo well! I am pro-Native American and always try to get out education of the "first Americans" to those across this country that don't know anything about these great and proud people! I will most certainly give you and the other contributors credit for your/their work, if all fits into what Father told me to do years ago. I await your reply and thank you so much for considering it. Have a great day. :)
we are a peace loving people. our way is all about honor and thoughtfulness. the universal law of every tribe is to share everything and promote all life. which is a big reason for our recent terrible history. we didnt lie or cheat or hate. we still to this day dont.
The Great Ghost Dance of 1890 the Paiute peoples came across the mountains to the East because so many peoples had been dying🦠. The Paiute peoples convinced the Wuksachi & many other tribes surrounding to hold a big new dance @ Eshom Valley. The Great Ghost Dance was performed near a water hole in Eshom Creek. The same dance that the dead people dance in Tihpiknits Pahn (Land of the Dead). Six days & nights of dancing & the win-at-un ( messenger) notified the peoples that the white people were coming to kill them. This ended The Great Ghost Dance.
i have Indian in me both Cherokee and Apache my great great grandmother was a full blood native American. I love Native Americans and there culture it fascinates me. i would never treat people like the people did in the video its so wrong.
were all entitled to our opinion I respect and thank you for yours. I think you might not have fully understood what I wrote, in any case if we disagree I think thats cool its seems thats what we humans do best.
Ok, But to us lot in the UK we have a fascination with Native Americans. Santa Fe, Los Alamos and anywhere else in the US and Canada. Ever since I was a small boy growing up in East London I have made certain I will get to Wounded Knee someday. An antique blanket from the rest of the world sells for thousands. An Indian/Native American blanket will sell for hundreds of thousands.
I'm Cherokee/Scot-Irish, my wife is Cherokee/Apache/Scot-Irish. I am not enrolled but my wife and son are in the process now, (their choice). Too busy to hunt now but I can hunt with bow or rifle (and have) or even with a club. I know the stories and how badly my grandfather was treated in a white world. I know the irrational envy and awe that some whites lavish on Indians in their guilt and ignorance and the modern ghost dancers with their own ignorance. I find them both lacking.
Shame on our ancestors who did this to such a great nation and to such a people. Long may your memories live and long may the native peoples of America survive and the memories live on. One day you may get your lands back, but not today :-( Live long and preserve your memories through the stories passed from one to another ;D
Doe's anyone watching this video plan on being at the March 08 Pow Wow? We are having a show in Denver on Sat. night the 22nd. The venue is only 3 miles from the Coliseum. It's all ages!! Send me a message on here if you would like more info. We will also be at the Pow Wow handing out flyers on the 21st.

I am a descendant of the Cherokee, and want very much to do a collage of
the Ghost Dance videos into ONE, would you allow me to upload your
video on this to my channel? I will most certainly give you and the
other contributors credit for your/their work, if all fits into what
Father told me to do years ago. I await your reply and thank you so much
for considering it. Have a great day. :)
Thank you , Let the TRUTH be Known,
i feel pain in my throat and eyes...so sad...like smoke from a fire
we are a peace loving people. our way is all about honor and thoughtfulness. the universal law of every tribe is to share everything and promote all life. which is a big reason for our recent terrible history. we didnt lie or cheat or hate. we still to this day dont.
This ended The Great Ghost Dance.
any one know Kenny Binder???? or Bender
i have Indian in me both Cherokee and Apache my great great grandmother was a full blood native American. I love Native Americans and there culture it fascinates me. i would never treat people like the people did in the video its so wrong.
were all entitled to our opinion I respect and thank you for yours. I think you might not have fully understood what I wrote, in any case if we disagree I think thats cool its seems thats what we humans do best.
hello from the year 2022! the message is still getting out…
Ok, But to us lot in the UK we have a fascination with Native Americans.
I had a friend who was Kootenai he had an old medicine rattle he said he was outside of his cell in prison for some reason i believe that
I'm Cherokee/Scot-Irish, my wife is Cherokee/Apache/Scot-Irish.
I find them both lacking.
has any one got apache eyes
And we Continue resisting after 500 years.
Remember there was more then one nation. There were over 500 nations. Our tribe had shamans and medicine people. So what tribe is your mother from?
IN THE SPIRIT OF WOVOKA,THE GHOSTDANCERS.
Shame on our ancestors who did this to such a great nation and to such a people.
Long may your memories live and long may the native peoples of America survive and the memories live on.
One day you may get your lands back, but not today :-(
Live long and preserve your memories through the stories passed from one to another ;D
