    I ❤❤❤ you're "leave no trace." Message. Back when I used to race mountainbike, we had that motto. Even before that. Keep reminding people. Thank you.

      We hiked devils bridge, but somehow only saw one other person for an hour. It was beautiful but we got there at around 530am. Hiked the high clearance road in the pitch black and had a lovely breakfast with the friend we made on the walk. It sucks you slept in, its beautifully unique when its quiet ♥

    This helps a ton. I've never been to Sedona, and I plan to start vacationing more in Arizona over the next few years. Thank you.

    Wow, it's changed a lot since I explored there in the 80s & attended NAU. Way busier!. It's still stunning, though. Thanks for sharing. New subscriber here.

    Great update. I would add that the Sedona Shuttle has a few different parking lots depending on which trailhead you're trying to get to. The Shuttle and parking lot are both free, which I think is AWESOME. I've taken it to Cathedral Rock and Soldier Pass. No way I would have found a parking spot at either trailhead. It's really neat that Sedona offers that without trying to nickel and dime people.

    We stumbled upon the little parking lot and found the cave. Very cool unexpected find. Hiked down to Oak creek too. Definitely an overlooked trail. The parking does help keep it a little gem!

    Awesome video as always Jerry. Thank you for sharing your top 15 hikes in Sedona. I always wonder, now i know. I will definitely do secret mountain because i had not done it before. Don’t worry, me and my wife are experienced hikers and im good at navigating trails. Most importantly, i do my homework throughly.

    I don't know what's more lovely, the landscape or Tina. You're a lucky man. She's a lucky woman. You make a good team.
    As fond as I am of Tina, I'm giving it to the landscape, but it was very close.
    Have fun, kids. 🏜️

    @4:45 -- for those coming from humid places like me, the heat in Sedona is less intense than it is where you are from. I'm from a place that gets to 95-103+ °f in the summer with very high humidity, and 100°f in Sedona is wayyy more manageable than 100°f where I'm from with the high humidity.

    If you want to backpack into secret canyon and don't have a 4x4, an option is to hike in over sterling pass and past vultee arch. This addsbsome additional variety to the hike, and optionally you can also loop up bear sign canyon and over the david miller trail, then come back out the secret canyon trail before retracing your steps.
    Secret canyon was actually the first backpacking trip I ever did back in the late 90s. Back then you could get to the trailhead in a camry, the forest service has seemingly made a deliberate decision to let the road deteriorate to cut down on potential traffic

    • @JerryArizona
      @JerryArizona  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting. But if that's what they did, I have to agree with them. I bet that road would be a madhouse if it were accessible to all vehicles.

      @@JerryArizonaI am just glad that they put that tall barrier at the beginning of the road at Secret Canyon. If you can’t get your car over it, it isn’t safe to attempt. We couldn’t do it in a lifted Outback.

    One thing you didn't mention on West Fork is the parking. It is pretty much impossible to get in there anymore, unless you are real early in the morning. We pretty much gave up on it quite a while ago.

    • @JerryArizona
      @JerryArizona  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's like that at almost all the trailheads up there anymore. You go early, or you don't get to go.

    Great video! For Soldiers Pass, if you can’t park there, there are many other trailheads you can park at that will connect to this trail. If you’re up for a long hike, I did Thunder Mountain Trailhead to Chimney Rock through to Soldiers Pass and Brins Mesa trail as a loop. It was 13 miles but you can do different shorter or longer variations. You could also just do Soldiers Pass and Brins Mesa as a shorter loop from the Soldiers Pass trailhead. Head out early and you can easily avoid crowds.

    Got to do Devil’s Bridge 3 years ago and we were fortunate tho unfortunate. It was mid to late June so brutally hot. Could not drive thru to get to off road parking as they had blocked because of the fires just south of there so it was a “enter at own risk”. Good part was that the crowd was thin. Hope to go back to visit some of these other places.

      It's so brutal here in the summer. You definitely can avoid a lot of crowds if you go in the off season, but you pay for it.

    Good review Jerry. I’ve hiked a few of these. Appreciate how you warn us about the potentially very rough roads to a trail head, and how one needs a tough 4wd vehicle to handle it. By the way, what was the phone app I saw briefly in this video, black screen, which gave you elevation?

    • @JerryArizona
      @JerryArizona  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's an app called Gaia. We use it as our GPS and have for years. I think it costs like $40~50 per year, but it works great.

    Are those water shoes you're wearing in the stream crossing Merrils?

    • @JerryArizona
      @JerryArizona  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm not sure what clip you're talking about, but if it's me in water sandals, they're Keen. I wore them for a while but finally gave up from all the little rocks that would get under my feet.

      @BaryNusz 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JerryArizona thanks. They looked a little like some Merrils I had for a couple of decades that are wearing out badly. I'm looking for replacements, but nothing I've found so far match what I had.

    Huckaby trail is a great hike IF you start at the Shnebly Hill parking lot & go towards Midgley Bridge. Granted, you do see & hear the traffic after about a mile in. Great short cardio workout. 3 years ago there was NOT a que to get your pic on Devils Bridge, you just rolled with it.🤦‍♀️.

      I second this opinion. There is a great overlook of Sedona downtown and the surrounding red rocks from the rim of the cliffs above Oak Creek that way.

    I'm here in July. 107 today. Pretty brutal. I went around the Twin Buttes this morning and was out by 9:00 am and it was really hot already! Can't believe that people are damaging native American ruins. Some people suck!

    • @JerryArizona
      @JerryArizona  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, it's discouraging. That's why I wanted to add in some messages about LNT; I like to think most of the damage is ignorance and not really done on purpose, especially with the petroglyphs. But knocking down that wall? No idea why anyone would do that.

  • @brendaelder6

    I would agree a bit more with parting words if it wasn’t so trendy to come here. If I didn’t see so much litter. If I didn’t run into drunken yahoos disrespecting the land. If there wasn’t so much concrete. You may think I’m selfish but I long for what it use to be. Back then it was sacred. Land is for everyone to enjoy as long as it’s respected. Most haven’t seen it at its height of beauty. I have and that’s why I mourn for yesterday. Great vids!

    • @JerryArizona
      @JerryArizona  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree on all points. That's why I wanted to incorporate LNT and the philosophy of respect for the land and each other in there. Hopefully it'll catch on and we can go back to what you're talking about.
