Good catch. It's fine to check the health of the vehicle before it starts, but bloody hell it would help to give a better clue to the driver! What if the wipers or lights blow a fuse, will it leave you stranded on the roadside?! I wonder if there is some other critical safety device on that circuit, or if that fuse something essential to the starter. Strange one alright.
Hmm ... Thanks. Narrowed down my issue. My 2005 Rodeo has an intermittent issue with starting, turn ignition key on, flashing check engine light. But it's usually with the engine warm, eg with trying to restart after a short stop. Turn the key off, wait a bit & retry, & it usually starts next go. It's also slow to start when cold, even after a new battery & new glow plugs (no warning light errors with this). Battery guy thought Rodeos diesel slow start was a fuel system issue (ie by reputation), ie not usually the battery side (cranking). Anyone heard similar? Only had it 18 mths, so I'm still getting used to all its idiosyncrasies.
P.S, before I bought it an auto sparkie told me Rodeos gave him a lot of business with replacing air con compressors. Couldn't get the smile off my face when I first lifted the bonnet & saw that shiny new compressor :) .
That's real horn-blower .. thanks for sharing that bit!!!
