Cool to see that it's Volda Gear. :) That's a little town south of Ålesund, in Norway. :) The compnay has changed name some times, but started as Volda Mek Verksted (Volda Mechanical Workshop) in 1913. These videos are fantasic. As a deck officer myself, I enjoy learning about the engine room equipment. 1. Were you able to run both pitch servo pumps together to change pitch faster, similar to running both steering motors? Islooked like pitch moved fast enough as it is, but I come from larger ships where we may run both pumps if needed. 2. Was there one RPM for all pitch levels or was there an option for a “combinator”? 3. I remember how interested I was as a kid to know. So, over 10 years later, I’m curious to know how fast the Steve could actually go? Great work on these videos. Can’t wait for the next installment. If only I lived in Australia - it would be amazing to see the ship in person or help get her moving again!

I've been on that ship, around 2006, had a look at the intercom system on the bridge and engine room, after it had a dose of sea water. did not have the parts or the time to effect a proper fix, but I was able to lend some advice. Hmmmm , so the hydraulic oil runs within the propeller shaft all the way out to the prop so that the pitch of the prop can be changed . Yes, it has a hollow shaft, housing a pipe in a pipe. In this way, you'll have three lines. C1 and C2 to control the pitch. The third is static pressure.
If there's a leak in the hydraulic actuator that controls the prop pitch, would it dump inside the boat or into the ocean- and apart from seeing the sump tank level drop, is there any way of knowing if there's a leak?
The high-pressure oil from the actuator will leak into the static pressure area surrounding the high-pressure parts. The hub's static pressure has a header tank way above the waterline, so the leak oil is pressed into that tank. The tank has an overflow line back to the hydraulic power pack.
I was confused by the missing prop direction meter, but now I see it is two engines into one shaft. I guess there is a big chain of gears between everything.

@k25824 No, the cpp can adjust the angle of the propeller blade whilst spinning . SO it can push or pull the water whilst rotating the in the same direction at all time. hence forward and reverse is achieved.
HI Really interesting vid mate.Just a quick question. How does the engine speed and ccp system work together? If the engine is running at xxx rpm and the ccp is at 25% how do you go faster? Are the shafts hollow to allow the mechanism to control the props pitch?
Great question , Yep The single propellor shaft has a tunnel to allow oil to flow to Cpp housing in the water,.

I would never let my engine room get to that state. A paintbrush and a pot of paint wouldn't go amiss. That shows a lack of Pride in the Engine room. I can remember when all the handrails were shining like a silver dollar.
Umm..... didn't he say in the last video that the ship had been mothballed for something like 5 years or longer? 5 years without anything going on on-board probably is the main reason for the condition.
Oh fure sure Brother! I'd much rather it that way . But Yes like @spike-sk7ql the ship has been sitting for 5 years. Even so. before , running the ship with mostly volunteers and a budget soley based on on donations, one has to prioritise jobs into a hierarchy of importance.
Let's hope SHIP4GOOD Gets both and more.
This is awesome love this ship can You get some of the old crew on the ship
Great Question, Certainly trying and will have some of the Hundreds who have sailed on her.
Damn why do the Chinese communists own the propellor (LOL) fabulous video - the young people that sailed on this ship and their missions are awe inspiring - a ship that does great work.
Thanks , glad you enjoyed , more to come.
THE US NAVY HAVE THESE HOPP UNITS ...
US navy MSO minesweeps had a systen like that but the mechinial syatem in the shafts ran all the way to the reducttion gear box.
we ran the system with two small toggle switches in the pilot house we did have a manual backup system in the engine room.
We cannot get notifications from your channel as it's a made for kids channel. So I only stumble onto your videos in my feed
That’s a bummer, I’m trying to find a way to fix that.
