    Just changed my 1st set of heads on my toms.picked up my 1st drum set used on marketplace a few weeks back.enjoying learning very much.
    I always thought it was going to require a little more work to change them heads..i will take that over a new guitar setup any day.

    I recently purchased a hardly used Pearl 5 piece set. The drums were perfect except the snare. The coating was worn off the batter head and the sound was way off. I did some research and found this video. I changed out the original Pearl batter head with an Evans heavyweight coated head. This video made it so easy! I was so impressed with the outcome, and it sounds amazing! Thank you Jared Falk. I liked Jared’s manner of instruction so much that I just took advantage of the 12 year anniversary deal at Drumeo! I have so much to learn!

    No offense, I love your videos,
    but if you're not recording or something I wouldn't bother changing the heads unless they're obviously dented.
    Especially not every 90 days when you play for half an hour a day. They will work absolutely fine for a long time.
    They will lose some freshness after maybe half a year or so, but thats a MINOR change in sound.
    Hell I just bought a Acrolite with a head from the 70s and it still sounds killer.
    Wouldn't change that for a live situation.

    The last time I changed my drumeheads was 6 years ago but now they are fine. I think that this is due to the fact that I play the dums 2 hours a week. Do I really have to replace them or, since there condition is still good, not?

  • @JeffRandallDrumming
    @JeffRandallDrumming 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Awesome job Jared! One thing that amazes me is how often you need to replace your heads when you’re on a tour. Something about exposing the drums to different climates on a daily basis really ages the heads. I find I can’t go much more than 3-4 shows without changing them! When I’m back in town however I try to keep it down to every month or so if I need them sounding top notch.

    • @Fred_P
      @Fred_P 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The heads expand when they get hotter and contract when they get cooler. This stretching back and forth fatigues the material in the heads, making them get out of tune and aging faster.

    It depends on the amount of shows and rehearsals that I do with my band . If I do shows and rehearsals massively then I usually change heads technically every six months on my Pearl Reference 14x6.5 20 ply snare ....
    Likewise , I had used EVANS HD DRY before and after six months of heavy playing, when I changed that to EVANS HEAVYWEIGHT, it actually made me feel that I have chosen the best head ever but would love to try hydraulic blue too... THANKS JARED for such an informative video anyways ... Cheers

    I definitely need to change my head. It's been on since the year dot. I suspect there's a technical difficulty, though, as soon as my brain is detached...
    ... on a serious note, though, I just got a snare drum and stand to use as an atabal with my Basque txistu, and it has a small split in the resonant head, which is why I'm here, to see whether replacement or Teflon tape is the better option. I'm entirely new to drums.

    You are a great teacher! I so appreciate your tutorial video. I'm a mom drummer, and I haven't changed drum batter heads in forever, but my teen is starting to play my drum set and I want them to sound better. Thank you for your wonderful instructions!

    Hey Drumeo team, something I always wondered. When the time comes that you need to change both heads, resonance and batter. How would you proceed for the tuning starting with both fresh heads at the same time ? Cause sometimes I get confused that I won't find the right tuning with the wrong resonance or on the other side, won't find the right resonance if I get the wrong tuning for me. Thanks, Anthony.

    Do you need resonate heads and if you do how often do you tune them?
