Wzup Chris this is Chad proud Flint, Michigan resident great videos by the way. Somebody must have heard what you were saying about the bricks on Saginaw St (Downtown Flint) because they are all fixed now!!
I love your videos and I’ve only been to Michigan once in my life. Fascinating and mesmerizing. That being said PLEASE PLEASE pick new music. These two songs have been in my head all week!
Thanks, but there’s not a single track that everyone will like. Us TH-cam creators are limited in what we can choose from and use in our videos. Just turn off the music if you don’t like it.
@@chrishardenarchives I love the music you pick and I'd actually love it if you could tell us what they are. I haven't found a video or comment where you mentioned that.
Saginaw st is Flint’s woodward ave 😂 Looks nothing like it did in my childhood and beside a few turns n streetname changes it actually runs from Saginaw to Detroit, Good video once again Chris ✌🏾
28:54 My first love, the Capitol Theater. We used to hang out there for the local bands back in the late 80's and early 90's. Truly a Flint landmark. The area has changed so much. There used to just be derelict buildings across the street from the theater, it looks so clean now.
I have lived in Genesee County for more than half my life and have driven the length of Saginaw St but never all in one day. An interesting trip, especially in contrast to what the northern sections and downtown Flint were like before the rot set in. You seem to have found a rare mostly sunny day for that part of Michigan in mid January. We have been known to go the entire month with hardly a glimpse of the sun.
I live just south in Metro Detroit. It’s my biggest gripe of living in Michigan. 4 months of doom and gloom guaranteed. Summers are perfect though imo.
I haven’t been to Downtown Flint in over 20 years. I can’t believe how nice it still looks, very clean compared to how everything looked on your drive there.
I grew up in Grand Blanc and my parents were from Beecher. I moved away from Flint in 1992. Your videos are very informative and well done. The various statistics give your commentary more validity. My only suggestion is to add some of the intersections that you drive through. I have a hard time tracking exactly where you are during the videos. It probably doesn’t help that my memories of Flint are 30 years old. Overall, an excellent series of videos about Flint. Keep up the good work.
I grew up in Grand Blanc. As depressing as it looks, I miss cruising down Saginaw St. I've lived in Miami, Dallas, and a few other places.................and I'm pining for Flint Michigan. Home is home I guess.
As a kid we used to shopping in downtown Flint. Smith Bridgemans department store was a big deal. Then we would go to Halo Burgers (kewpies). I worked in downtown Flint on Second street and on Saginaw street years ago
I was raised in Flint in the late 60's-70's it was not a bad place to live back then. Was still a lot going on and employment was good too. Well, you see why I retired and moved to West Virginia on the bottom of a mountain on a river!!
7:50 that was a Kmart that closed in the late 1990s and has been empty since 8:20 that was an Arby's that closed around 1998 and again has been empty ever since, the Little Caesars was originally a KFC which moved next door and that has been gone for around a decade
It is nice to see that the Vernor's Muriel is still there. Right after the Halo Burger. (Formerly named Kewpie's when I was a child) I remember going shopping downtown with my mother back in the early 1960's. (Before Malls took hold) A WORLD of Difference from today.
Anybody remember the name of the little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant downtown on Saginaw? I was never familiar with south of the border food before going there but their food was very tasty.
Appears this is a very controversial area. Touchy people. That’s not a bad thing per se but if people are ignorant to their own surroundings history and don’t even know what part of town they are in, I mean what can anyone say.
It seems to be like that in most poorer areas. People’s defense mechanisms kick in sooner and they get on their guard quicker when you say facts about their area that don’t look good.
The Flint Land Bank has torn down thousands of old houses over the years. Home owners can purchase the newly-empty lots next door for next to nothing. The challenge is that It's a never-ending project.
Thanks, Chris. I don't think the "water crisis" is really that big of an impact anymore. I think Flint is losing population because of crime - Let's not ignore the elephant in the room, right? It's sad to see these poverty-stricken areas, and know that so many people have no means of escaping it. But, I think once land, especially industrial land, and infrastructure are so expensive, people will give Flint a second look.
used to live in flint, i see the halo burger place is still there. get a hamburger with everything and a vernons ginger ale or a chocolate malt. his comment about fixing the brick road in downtown would go a long way ? i think the city has more important things to worry about than a brick road.
When I grew up with my single mother, she used to work less than 20 hours a week and recklessly spend money with credit cards. She bought a home that she couldn’t afford in Birmingham. I remembered how our neighbors thought everyone who lived inside that house, including the children. She spend all her ex-husband’s child support on herself, which was even more income than MI’s welfare. She lost custody due to mental problems, and I lived with my father who did make a good living for Birmingham standards. She always needed a man to take care of her financially. When my step-dad bailed her out financially, I saw her less since she got stuff from him. I now live in Greeley (CO) myself, which is a hood. I’ve met people who just abuse the state’s welfare system. I’ve met deadbeat parents who nauseated me. Even though I don’t make much money myself, I’m self-sufficient and don’t take government money. I have a Republican’s attitude when it comes to the ghetto.
I attended Gundry, Holmes and Central and can attest only certain buildings and street names are recognizable now. Then again I'm sure there were cavemen around at one time who remember the area as a glacier. If anyone wants to see what it once was....look up the Flint Zorro parade.

@@chrishardenarchives You're right, but its complicated. Flint is/was a poster child for a rust-belt city. Its only reason for being was GM. Even better, a personalized ringtone. Who would you set it for?
I play this music when I drive through a hood, including my current place.
If you think that's good, you really need to expand your musical circle. I found it so annoying & boring, I had to mute it.
