  • Perform PVT measurements either isobaric or isothermal according to ISO 17744.
PVT stands for Pressure, Volume and Temperature.
PVT measurements are used to determine the thermodynamic behaviour of plastics, elastomers, thermosets and liquids. Here, the specific volume is determined as a function of the variables of pressure and temperature.
PVT measurements are essential for the following applications:
    • Molded part design in injection molding
    • Material selection at existing injection molds
    • Shrinking processes in extrusion
    • Shrinking processes when pressing moldings
    • Determination of shrinkage caused by vulcanization or linkage
    • Design of expansion tanks for liquids
For PVT testing we have two different devices on the one side we have the option for PVT testing in the capillary rheometer which allows to have either rheological measurement and also PVT testing or just a single PVT testing device the PVT 500.
The isobaric measurement process is therefore similar to the actual production process in injection molding and the generated data is especially relevant for the simulation of injection molding processes.
Especially knowledge of the shrinkage behavior is extremely important when designing molds. A PVT measurement also provides a precise description of the cooling process as it takes place in extrusion, for example.
