What If West Africa United Into ONE Country?

  • While many attempts to unify the African continent have been made in the past, none have been successful. That begs the question, what would happen if countries in Africa sharing similar cultures united to create giant nations, and how would they impact the world?

Different online sources have conflicting information regarding which are the top 3 most spoken languages. Some Nigerian websites claim it's Yoruba, while more international websites say that it's Hausa, so I favoured the Nigerian website's information over the rest.

There you go... this is why such planned unification will never happen. Instead, kick-out the colonizers and let things happen organically. Before the Whiteman came, the peoples in this geographical space interacted with each other. Whether warring or trading, they certainly had means of communicating

Great Video! My name's Frederick Delk I vision the United States of West Africa in 1992 - 1996. United States of West Africa is larger than the West African Federation because I include 1. Western Sahara 2. Chad 3. Cameroon 4. Central African Republic, 5. Gabon 6. Republic of the Congo 7. Equatorial Guinea and 8. the Southern 1/3 of Algeria make it about 3.6 million square miles about the size of the USA. The biggest problem in West Africa is the lack of trade & standards between the West/Central African Countries. The United States of West Africa would create larger single market & freer trade, transportation, Utilities, Railroads, Highways, Airflight connectivity etc within the Region.

Being the most ethnically and linguistically diverse doesn't equate impossibility of union. Because union means to constituted in transcendence. To Union is to nourish each other with differences, in order to develop in a collegial way, by deliberating on the common destiny. Just as a nation is the deployment of nature in an institution, union is also the deployment of individualities to form a whole, a whole.
The nations taken individually, are an ethnic and linguistic diversity.
Having said that the issue isn't a United Africa, the issue is the well-being, freedom in Africa.
What needed to be explored is the reasons why some leaders in Africa have thought the necessity of a united Africa?
Was it, is it a reaction or a mean perceived that need to be conceived?
In looking at the history, there are some pieces of key of understanding. The Berlin Conference of 1884 has shared, divided. Share and divided refer to a situation where the underlying is a whole.
Since an idea is always an answer, the idea of a United Africa may have emerged in thought as an answer to this historical event.
And since idea has a spatio-temporal dimension, the era in which leaders have thought a United Africa is also a key. The colonial era. Colonization as the domination, the conquest of the other. Thus, leaders may have considered that if Africa were united, the continent may have withstood the contempt.
The ideas of Pan-Africanism, a United Africa have all been determined by how Africa and Africans have been treated. This is why even today, some Africans and more and more consider that Pan-Africanism, a United Africa are important goals, where Swahili is viewed as the language.
It is the contempt that has led to these ideas. The lived hasn't been a benevolence. Thus, what is, is perceived as something that has been imposed. Therefore, the being must become authentic, and authenticity means to distinguish oneself from certain things.
There have been too many errors when it comes to Africa. And the drama is some people don't want to change, they still perceive Africa and Africans through centuries-old lens. Thus, they are making things worse. Here is what French President Sarkozy told Africans in Dakar, Senegal in 2007 '"The tragedy of Africa is that the African man has not entered history enough."
There have been too many errors towards Africa and Africans.
The ideas of a United Africa, Pan-Africanism are perceived by some Africans and some African descents as instruments that will allow Africa and Africans to write their own history, their own narrative.

What West Africa need urgently is a common Defence Pact and a Military High Command. THIS SHOULD BE INDEPENDENT FROM ANY FOREIGN INFLUENCE.
Whilst some NATIONS are destabilizing the REGION, ARABS are pressing to acquire parts of the SAHEL. Therefore, the NEED becomes imperative. The young ladies and gentlemen enrolled in the military service of the USA, UK and France could join such a Force. I am confident that West Africa can create a Force of about 1.5 million soldiers to guard against our wealth, whereby the demand for every need should be created and supplied within Africa and not from outside, irrespective of whether the demanded items have less Quality. REMEMBER, THE COMPANIES CAN ONLY GROW OR BE PERFECTED THROUGH R&D. Africa must start to coordinate jointly, the Production of CAPITAL GOODS resulting from creating Platforms for Private and National Engineering Entities. Such Activities must be backed by and with National sovereignties. It is imperative, and African Historians may examine and see that this is the right time to embark on such ventures. Please examine carefully which historical events boosted the Independence Achievements in Africa, especially North, West and East.

The idea is that in such a theoretical nation every entity that makes up the nation has something to bring to the table. For instance, Nigeria has a severe electricity problem that they've been dealing with for a while. Meanwhile Ghana produces more electricity than it actually needs, and Benin has a handful of solar farms. These countries could supply electricity to Nigeria, while Nigeria helps other states with other things :)

Not this CEDEAO federation but a state who covered thé soudano sahélien area historically united since centuries by its muslim empires like Mali, Songhay, Kanem Bornou ans Sokoto. These people have same religion, islam who unite them despite different ethnic groups. This sahelian federation would cover roughly thé current Senegal, Gambia, Mauritania, two Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, Northern Côte d'Ivoire, Niger, Chad, Northern Nigeria, North Cameroon. That's thé sudano sahelian civilization area with same dominant religion and culturally compatible people. This state would be named "Sahedane" because of the contraction of Sahel and Sudan.
