For those of you who aren’t into baseball, this man was probably the most intimidating pitcher to ever live… and not just that, he was ELITE; he’s in most people’s all-time starting rotation. A league where the men played this sport at the absolute highest level in the world, he was a king amongst men.
@@atm1919 love Gibson was, (you can out Nolan Ryan up there too for intimidating) but RJ was a 6’10 lefty that could hit 100 mph if he needed too, wild af when he was young and then got his control as he aged… Gibson was intimidating, but no one was scarier than RJ.
I grew up watching this man in the 90s and I remember meeting him when he was signing stuff for kids after a game. He was such a great guy and I was a 8 year old kid who really enjoyed that he always loved meeting his fans.
Bro crazy I been watching Randy highlights since I been playing MLB the show recently, and first interview I’ve ever seen him in like a week later. Crazy
Absolutely love this guy. Hard to say he’s underrated given his stats and his HOF status. But I think with his occasional wildness makes some think he’s not as good as he is. He’s phenomenal. I absolutely love this guy. I also love his personality. I remember after he hit the bird, he was not amused. He was pissed at everyone laughing because he felt so badly. I mean, it’s not his fault, and it’s incredible, so I’m glad he can laugh at it now, but still… I love his compassion for animals. Not at all surprised that he’s doing safari photographs and the like now. So on brand. I haven’t a clue what his politics is, but he SEEMS like a compassionate, caring, loving guy. …on top of his phenomenal career. Love everything about him. One of my top five favorites of all time who didn’t play for my own team.
Great interview, yea the last era of pitchers that could go the whole nine if needed (Randy, Clemens, Maddux, Glavine). Which had happened for over a hundred years. And what an incredible nick name "The Big Unit."
There's for sure been a shift in the last decade, but i appreciate segments like this. Guys are trying to bring baseball back in the spotlight. No other league is trying to bring their sport center stage as much as baseball. Now get rid of the goddamn blackouts and we're rolling

Being a diamondbacks fan and a raiders fan hearing Pat tell Randy he's like Maxx Crosby is music to my ears. Absolute legends of there sport. Maxx will go down as a hall of gamer and could be the greatest Raider to ever do it. Just like Randy is the best pitcher to suit up for the Dbacks...Brandon Webb a close second tho
Oldest/first IRL MLB memory I have is seeing Randy Johnson and the Diamondbacks at the Reds in 2002. I was only 8. 8IP and 11 Ks for Johnson but honestly I only remember one thing, him hitting a ground rule double. th-cam.com/video/ERbw_3EA7G0/w-d-xo.html
As a Yankees fan I hated him but my god he was ridiculous. He casually threw a first pitch 77 mph like was playing catch in the backyard at the age of 50
The bird thing would be trivially memorable if it happened to anyone else. It is so amazing because of all people to have taken a pitcher's mound, a bird accidentally flew in front of a baseball thrown by one of the greatest, most intimidating pitchers of our time. It is so funny. Not for the bird though.
This man was so good the Yankees got him at like age 41 and we all treated it like Christ coming back to earth 😂😂 (he’d go on to be a terrible Yankee lol)
Randy is right, stop with this BS analytics. You take the pitcher out when its obvious to do so, not when some arbitrary stats says take him out now. I watched an ALCS game tonight (Detroit v Cleveland) where Cleveland took the starting pitcher out in inning FIVE because he let two hits get off in one inning. No one even SCORED. WTF? Isn't the point of the game that someone, eventually, will hit the pitch? I remember watching games in the 90s and it was RARE to see a starting pitcher taken out before the 7th inning and usually not until the 8th. Ive noticed since I recently started watching baseball again that they routinely play 5 or 6 pitchers in ONE game. I never saw that in the 90s. A starter and a relief/closing pitcher was usually the deal. At MOST 3. ALSO, one last gripe, I hate the pitchcom thing. As a fan watching from home, I miss watching the catcher use hand signs to call the pitches and all of the unique communication between catcher and pitcher that once was. (Thanks Astros for ruining that for all of eternity you cheating little a**holes!)

Randy is my GOAT. Dude upped his game halfway through his career and became one of the scariest pitchers in history

Its the Batters taking time between each pitch that makes the game slow.
