This is really interesting! Even though we share certain techniques there are differences too. I'll have to try some of your tricks. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Kirk, we all do things a bit differently. That is the nice thing about TH-cam, we all have a lot to learn a lot of different things from each other. Glad you liked the video, I was a bit worried with this one that it might be a bit too long. All the best
@@KuukkeliBushcraft I honestly prefer to make and watch videos 5 minutes and under...sometimes they are longer. This video was interesting and kept me watching all the way through.
Man I always get so confused with grinds, bevels etc etc. Great sharpening video mate, I just use an old worksharp belt system as its easy and quick & usually works perfectly fine. I think I remember that birch polypore thang, Interesting about the toothpaste also I have never heard that before being used on a leather strop!!! Thats a neat lil crkt knife, cricket whatever you wanna call the brand lol. Loved the video, tips everything mate. Thank you for sharing all your wonderful knowledge with us!
I should have mentioned worksharp during my little rant about machinery. Like the Tormek they are designed for the purpose and work (I believe but have never used either). Your average bench grinder though is a menace. They are OK for sharpening chisels though so long as you don't get them too hot. Have you made any videos on your worksharp? Sounds interesting. I hear them mentioned a lot and have seen them for sale on the Internet. Looks like it's just a small belt sander. Does it have a jig for the bevel angle? I think terminology when it comes to knife grinds is something that we don't want to get too hung up on. Like that little Terava knife in the video. Is it a saber grind or a scandi grind? Who cares🤣. Thanks for watching mate, nice to hear from you.
Hey mate sorry I am late responding, we have been having terrible bad luck lately so I keep getting busy doing junk. But yea I have a worksharp grinder, it works amazingly well...paid 59 dollars for it. No never did a video on it, figured it would be too long and boring and people wouldn't want to see the thing really. Yes small belt sander, and yep it has different inserts for different angles. I seriously need new belts for it though cause I am always sharpening Ryans hunting knives for him lol!!! And yes, who cares lmao...If a knife spec has the grind type when I do a review I try to remember to mention it. It always seems people care about weight and blade thickness more than anything though. You are welcome, so great to talk to you again my friend!!
@@WaltRevenJr hey, don't worry about taking time to respond. I think the work sharp would make quite an interesting video. My sharpening video was far to long. Half an hour, that's a bit too much. Anyway I am late responding because I have been drinking with a mate who I haven't seen for a year. Now it's late and I am a bit drunk so I am going to bed. Always nice talking to you bud. Goodnight.
Lol all good mate, I had my share of beer this week so I am good to go for now hahaha. Maybe I will do a video tomorrow on that worksharp and upload it monday beings I need a video anyhow. I cant really use it to sharpen anything in the video though cause the belts are just dull and ick, dont wanna be ruining any knives but I can show it and go over it for you no doubt if that sounds ok? Might be an interesting different type of review for my channel anyhow. Take care buddy, drink lots of water before bed it will help control the hangovers LOL. Nice talking with you also my friend
@@WaltRevenJr good morning, not so great for me I am afraid. Few cups of tea and I will be alright 😀. Can't hold my ale like I used to. Would be interesting to see a worksharp video. Can they be used on axes? Kind of thinking that it might be quite handy to have one on the husky farm. We have (rather I have a lot of sharpening to do there. The worksharp might make it easy enough for some of the youngsters to sharpen things for me😀. Particularly the knives that we use for meat prep. I have been having a look on ebay, really not very expensive. Hope you are less hungover than me😀and have a awesome day.
I have a very good knife. I literally strop it nightly, but I use it cutting thick cardboard boxes, tape and plastic straps. The knife has lasted me 20 years landscaping work, and 5 years warehouse work
Always better to strop frequently, that is something I should have mentioned in the video. It certainly doesn't have to be only done after sharpening. For a work knife stopping daily is a good idea.
@@clarklindquist8137 sounds like you are getting your moneys worth out of that one. I don't have much experience with Gerber but I hear the ones that are made in the USA are excellent.
@@KuukkeliBushcraft The older ones are better. This particular one is about 30 years old. I have two kitchen knives that all I do is lightly oil the blades and strop them. They are both well over 150 years old. They are the sharpest blades I own. I only use them atime or two a month, and have an old straight razor strop for them. Its amazing the workmanship of hand made steel. They will be passed down to the next generation soon, and hopefully, with proper care last another 150 years
Thanks buddy, I think I should have done this in 30parts though. Half an hour is too long. Hopefully someone will find it helpful though. Thanks for watching buddy. Hope you are not too cold over there🥶. Always nice when the days start getting longer isn't it?

The knife is an older Gerber folder I picked up cheap because the aluminum scales was beat up, but the knife was new

Hi friend from Utah USA
Hello Clark, Thanks for watching my friend.
My dog heard yours and barked back. Hahaha
When I am in Lapland I like to play recordings of wolf pups howling to the huskies, the reactions are priceless. 🤣
