Another informative video. Yes we have got our new van with 600amps and 1000 watts of solar. Can't wait to go travelling next year. About to do towing course and then have everything weighed.
Thank you. It was excellent to watch your non-specialist explanation of your system. We are planning but not started yet. Watch lots of electrician videos which can be overwhelming with the technical detail. So a layman's overview is great. Paul
Well done great to have a review of a different system! A friend of mine has a Vitron system for their house they live on Yorke Peninsula remote place by a beach they looked around all systems and went with a really high spec system no power dramas at all like you said great backup! A 3rd of the the price to have the mains connected and no bills! Thanks again you need to work Bob in your show everyone loves a puppy! Safe Travels Scott!
Thanks Scott, yeahnit is a great option fornoff grid and wouldnuse it the same if we were remote. Lolbhadbto remove Bob on this one as he was trying to jump into the chair storage area! Thanksnfornypur support!
Thanks Scott. Still learning the system as we go but so far it’s been 👌. These videos are hard with Bob as his still a puppy full of energy so we still training him. He will slowly work his way into all videos 🙌🏻
I have just watched an old episode of you trying to get a scew in under your new fridge a little blue tac on the end of your screwdriver driver works well.
Thanks Deryck. Very informative episode mate. We’ve ordered a similar Red Arc system for our new van based on years of boating and hopefully it delivers what we need.
Great info thanks guys. After spending most of my time looking at my battery monitor and moving solar panels every hour or so for a couple of years I am definitely looking for overkill on my next set up. Thanks heaps for your advise and showing the set up.
I am enjoying this series of videos much more than travel blogs which so many people on you tube do. This is setting you above most others in an informative, interesting series. I have been following you since your trip on part of the Oodnadatta Track. Missed your episodes when you were working as caretakers but you and Sue are back bigger and better 😁
Wow Peter thanks so much, that is awesome to hear that you are enjoying the series! We are working hard to try and deliver better content and still learning as we go. Wow the Oodnadatta was a whole ago, was a great part of the country! Thanks fornyour support and comment, it is much appreciated!
Very good set-up, we are doing the same with victron gear + 2×280 watts of power Paul lithium batteries & 1100 watts of Solar as we do mainly free or low cost camps. The Starlink carry bag turned up yesterday & are very happy with it! Cheers
That's sounds epic Michelle! So excited for you. Good power makes all the difference. Yay on the nag, it is really handy for storing Starlink! Glad you are happy with it!
Thank you 🙏. We still learning the full capabilities but so far it does what we need it to do. So good to hear the starlink bay arrived and you are as happy with it as us 🙌🏻
Congratulations guys on hitting 10k subscribers, it's a huge effort & time consuming you put into making these videos for little financial reward. Shows yours hearts. Cheers guys 🍻🍾🥃🥂
Another ripping episode - loving these midweek episodes. You’ve motivated us to look at our solar, we have a similar sized van and only 340w on the roof. Also congrats on cracking 10k subscribers 🎉
Thanks so much Charlotte, appreciate your support and feedback! Always worth having a look but depends on your needs. We only have a big system because we live and work full-time on the road!
Another great video, good overview and no jargon, what a great system, I dream to have a system like that, well done. Have a great week, travel safe, and congratulations on reaching 10K 👍👍
Thanks so much, yes we are really happy with it and it does what we need it to. I wouldn't worry abt such a big system if I wasn't working full-time tbh. Thanks as always for your support, can't believe we hit 10k, so chuffed 😀
Thanks for your vid they are always great, when it comes to Lithium baterries they will alays last longer if the batteries are not charged to 100% I keep mine to around the 85% charge this is a well known fact. And with your Victron solar charges don't let them (float charge) as Lithium doesn't need to float ,set your charging voltages to the same , ie: Absorption and float to the same charge rate it realy does make a difference of usable power. Victron all the way mate this is truely the next level, people crap on about Enerdrive however this is the best happy travels.
Thanks mate just scrolling back through your history to find this video. If you ever need support on these products and your system if you don’t get any love from your caravan manufacturer we are located in Adelaide South Australia. Keep our contact details if you ever need advice, service or help on your system. Thanks mate keep up the good content Matt
Victron rocks!!! It’s clearly superior to any other. Not being biased but I’ve tried other major brands and there’s no comparison. Next time try Safiery it’s next level 48v. Enjoy your life style.
its superior *if* you want the interconnection. If you don't care about being able to read all the data in one app or screen then there's really no point spending the extra money over the chinese stuff - except maybe for the inverter, as they are built to last (cheaper brands never last)
Great episode Derek Thanks for the informative presentation Your channel and presentation has been going from strength to strength You didn’t show it but I assume you can remote monitor your system from the Victron app. You may already know but it is also possible to remote monitor the fridge and van temps as well using Victron and Ruuvi sensors.
Thanks Steve, he is def getting g more confident but we are still learning. Didn't know abt being able to monitor your fridge and roo. Temps will look into that, thanksnso much!
Thanks Steve. Appreciate the feed back and it it’s good to hear from our viewers. I didn’t know about the Ruuvi sensors. I’ll definitely look into that 🙌🏻
That is exciting! I would definitely recommend sitting with a specialist to determine how much power you need but reakon you have probably already done that! Thanksnfor the support and comment!
@@suelandolt6840 cheers for that! Victron stuff looks the goods! Once we get the new tow vehicle, we hope to get out to do some shakedown trips before the lap!
Nice to see the system you had installed, Victron does appear to be a decent brand. Did I miss it or did you not mention the size inverter you are running?
Hi Derek, In your overnight battery usage of 10-15%, I am interested to know if you are operating a compressor fridge or is the fridge a 3 way and running off gas? Gary
Hi Could you please explain when you need to turn you inverter on and off and why. We are just starting and have never turned ours off and are having issues with having enough battery to last even a day and we have 3 agm batteries and 400 kw solar panels.
Oh good!! It worked!!! Joe Brandon is updating all our tanks to be ev. Not sure if we need to put a solar panel on top and toe a windmill, but I see no problems whatsoever
With that much battery you'll find you'll never run low. I've got half that size in my bus and I've never drained it even though I cook and heat hot water with electricity. 1200 watts on the roof and it still charges right back up even with clouds
The voltage on the lithium batteries are not a good gauge of battery charge. The shunt gives the % charge far more accurately if the system is correctly configured. Your fridge is possibly the largest overnight battery load.
Why do caravan owners run small solar panels on the roof, you can fit 4x 400 watt panels on the roof of that van and you would have 1600 watts, double what you have now. Sure they cost a few dollars more but makes more sense to maximise the input when the realastate is limited, I run 6x400watts on the roof and 20kw of useable battery power, on my truck, and like you victron works for me too
What a system, the stuff dreams are made of 👏👏👏. How did you solve the over heating problem on the tow motor ? It couldn’t of been much, just wondering what it was. Hey Graham, thanks so much! Yes it is a dream power system and with it as I work full time. Probably wouldn't need such a big one otherwise.
