    Hello Dale, Your timing was perfect. Now that I have the 8X and 4X accordions I was wondering if I should keep them both. The verdict is out. Yes, keep them as they are very complimentary. Many thanks for putting this out for those of us who might have had some "guilt" from owning both.

    • @dalematthies
      @dalematthies  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So, now you will be buying batteries for two accordions. Actually - if you own only two accordions - you need a few more. You've probably heard stories about guitar players who own dozens of guitars in different styles and colors. We need to keep the accordion stores in business ;-)

      I also own an acoustic Scandalli Pontifolico XIV which is pretty new. However 90% of my time playing is now with one of the 2 Rolands. Dale, what bellows settings do you use for you 4x and 8x?

    • @dalematthies
      @dalematthies  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't change anything on the 4x. My 8x is at the studio for a class later today, so I can't look at it. I may have changed that one, but that would have been when I originally was learning the 8x system.

    • @811birch
      @811birch 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the 8X settings are AOK. The 4X is taking me a little more time to figure out.

    A real nice comparison/overview of the 8X and 4x!!! Thank You. I have the old original FR-7 version2 and now considering the 4x in the near future. I do play a variety of genres of music, however I do enjoy Oberkrainer and Austrian selections, so I'm curious about the Tuba/ Horn/Clarinet settings. Finally, the cost of the 4x in U.S./Canadian currency? Thanks again Dale, great job!!!

      Click on my channel: Dale Mathis Accordion, to access over 100 videos about these instruments. I have done some on the 4x Oktoberfest sounds. If you are only interested in those sounds, there are many to choose from, but I have only used a few to give a general idea. I am not sure about shipping to Canada. That would have to be researched.

      I was absolutely amazed at the power of my 4x compared to my 1x and I certainly am NOT complaining about the power of the 1x!!! It has lots of power!! I did not realize that there would even be a difference in the 2 instrument s!! Love them both!!! (Wish I could play them!!😂😂🤗✝️🤔)

    Does the 4x have the same bellows curve abilities like the 8x? I had the 3x and sold it because I did not like the way the bellows worked.

    • @dalematthies
      @dalematthies  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I am fairly certain the bellows curve settings are the same in both instruments. One difference, the 8x does not use bellows straps, the 4x does use bellows straps. Busy day for me today, so I can't look it up, but I believe the 4x reference manual would have that information for you. Thanks for watching.

    Now I do not know which to get.
    I like the idea of different sounds and built in rhythm unit and also head phones
    Head phones is the main reason so as not to annoy neighbours. Then I can practice for hours.
    But I want the Alpine sound as I like to play Austrian and German oompah stuff.
    Will the Fr4x do it?
    Can I adjust the bass so it sounds like a Tuba and very similar to the Helicon bass accordions?
    You mention that there is a sounds difference.
    Will the sound of the 4x be powerful with head phones?
    Do both accordions have built in speakers or must they be wired to an amplifier?
    No one mentions amplifier and it is not obvious.
    Thanks Dale.
    Peter

    On the 4X, without a bellows strap won't the bellows open up while you are taking it off or moving it around?

    • @dalematthies
      @dalematthies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 4x has a top and bottom bellows strap. The 8x does not have bellows straps. The 8x has a motor inside the bellows that is part of the dynamic bellows control system. It is possible for the bellows on the 8x to open slightly when you are taking the accordion off. It depends upon how you handle the accordion. It is a good idea to release air in the bellows when you place the accordion on a table.

    Hi Dale,
    I have an FR7X and find bellow shake a problem. I have no trouble on an acoustic, but cannot find a good setting on the 7x. Have you found a setting that works for you?
    Tom

    • @dalematthies
      @dalematthies  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen a couple people do a bellows shake on the 8x, but I don't think it is easy. But then, I really don't know because I have not tried it. If you are doing the Polish Polka back ground accordion, you may still want to stick with an acoustic.

      That's the one draw back I find to the Rolland, everything else being real sweet. I don't do background, but still like to throw it in from time to time.
      Thanks for your feedback.

      Check out the Rymanowski bros polka band, Albany NY area . Their accordion player bellows shakes a Roland seemingly easy . Not a real fast shake but a casual simple complimentary one to the Polka beat.

      @@dalematthies I am in the US. Do you feel the price difference between 4x and 8x is warranted for a hobbyist? I can get a 4xb for $4000 from a friend in the music retail business. I think he said the 8x would be $5600.
