    Excellent information! I just bought the XP12000EH which is similar so much of what you covered here applies. Funny thing was I was looking at the same Viking charger at Harbor Freight and was planning to buy one for my generator as well. I was very fortunate to find my generator as a Black Friday deal for $965; a 31% discount off the regular price of $1,399.

      Good post.
      To make you feel even more prescient... I JUST bought a 1300EH. With tax... cost me 1,700 bones total. You got a GREAT deal! Congrats.
      I saw the deal you purchased when it was advertised... I opted for the additional 100 watts, as our A/C and circulation needs are pushing what these genny's will do.
      Was probably a mistake on my part, but... oh well. At least neither of us will be in the dark.

    We have a 3300 sq ft home with two 4 ton heatpump/AC units with airhandlers, and well pump, and were able to run ONE of the AC's unit along with the well pump, refrigerator and a freezer with no problem. The AC units were made in 2015 so not really new. We ran all of this on just propane so it would be even better if we ran gas.

    Awesome video. I’m about to purchase this unit. I live in Florida and during Irma we were out for 12 days. I have a 4 ton AC unit and from all the reviews I’ve read they say it can handle a 4 ton. My electrician said I should really use a 15000 watt but I don’t want to spend double the price if I can get away with this generator which should be adequate. I can keep most of the other circuit breakers off to cool down the house and slowly turn on other breakers one at a time. Anyway, I appreciate your presentation it helped a lot, thanks my friend. Be blessed!

      @PeterLawton 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@billmitchell3329 AC takes a lot of power, but the start-up surge can be the dealbreaker for the generator. The "hard start" reference mentioned may be talking about what I've heard called a "soft start". The idea is that accessory spreads out that surge, lowering the required *peak* surge current, and by that, it enables a smaller generator to work just fine.

    • @billmitchell3329
      @billmitchell3329 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PeterLawton thanks Peter. I had the hard start installed by my A/C company after receiving the generator. It was kind of pricey, a little over 200 but the starting amps for the ac is 17 amps when measured now so that should be no problem.The part he installed acts more like a soft start because the starting amps are so low. It was a single unit with the relay built within it.

  • @chriscox5568
    @chriscox5568 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    To help you on your power that your generator has to put out for your AC unit install a soft start switch is around $300.- $340. and will cut way down on what your AC unit draws in amps on start ups. And will make your unit last longer. Your AC unit will only need about 1/3rd of the amps that normally it would've taken on start up so you will have more power to use elsewhere if needed without over taking your generator. I know the soft start seems high but it's worth its wait in gold .

    I think you all need to know there are issues with this generator. I purchased the first unit back in December of 2020. It lasted all of 2 months and 30 minutes of run time, before it disintegrated the wire windings. Duromax replaced it with a new one. It ran for less than 30 minutes before it was back to the repair facility. They said the regulator they provided was incorrect and I needed a two stage propane regulator. Brought it home and it ran for 30 minutes. Thought all was good. Did my test run last weekend and once again it went back to the repair facility. They can't figure out what is going on with the unit. Bottom line - I do not endorse this unit as being a reliable generator.

    My unit stays in my shed, I added a 12” 1 1/4 straight drain pipe and have it venting outside. I also added a soffit 6 x 16 in four corners at floor level. When running in the summer it gets very hot in the shed, I keep the door closed to help contain some of the noise, so I installed an exhaust fan. The fan combined with already installed ridge vents the inside temp of the shed does not exceed the ambient temp.

    10,500 running watts and 13k watts peak is impressive. (Not sure what it is on propane)
    Keep in mind that 50 amp connector and proper cord is good for 12000 watts so nice sweet spot here at a decent price. If you're whole house is gas, this should indeed run everything unless you have some insane ton air conditioner. If you are all electric, a dual element hot water heater uses 9000 watts on average and electric hvac is at least 40 amps and way up there, something to keep in mind.
    Thank you for your review, I need another generator that is already prepped for propane...think I'm going to add this one to my fleet.

    Very nice setup sir...Do U find that U actually need this much generator to run the house's systems? Your hookups look sound. I use a Champion 100296 ( 49 states ) dual fuel generator I run on LPG @ about 7 KW's of usable power. It easily powers the entire house, i.e., (3) phase deep well pump, FHW propane furnace with domestic hot water tank, all lights, TV, computer, shop air compressor, etc. I use the provided regulator that came on the chintzy 3 ft. hose that I replaced with a 6 ft. high quality hose B4 hookup. I keep ( 2 ) full 40 LB. portable LPG tanks on hand with ( 2 ) 20 lb. portables available as well. In using the larger LPG tanks U have apparently figured out the correct flow rate regulator to use with the factory reg. on your unit. I maintain a " use journal " on my unit & under normal usage I get 18.25 hrs. out of (1) 40 lb. tank... I too did my own installation on my 30 amp Champion generator using 10-3 Romex between my 200 amp main box with a " Interlock Switch " with a single, dual throw 30 amp CB going out to a 30 amp Reliant power inlet box on the outside of the structure. I use a 50 ft. L14-30 power cord that runs over to my outside generator pad that I also grounded even though I am internally grounded. That's just me, most people don't bother with it, although most installation manuals do advise it... I Did my install in Jan. 2018 shortly after major wind shear downed trees all across central VT & we lost power for a week & once again losing everything in my fridge & freezer for a 3rd time costings 100's of dollars after each occurrence...
    Thanks for sharing your experience here,
    Bill on the Hill,
    Vermont... :~)

      William Farr I had a 10,000 watt that I converted to propane. It ran everything but not my 60 gallon air compressor in the shop. Most of the time I just shut the compressor breaker off when I’m on generator anyway. I haven’t fully tested this one but I wanted to make sure I had enough generator to run my 3.5 tom AC. The generator it’s self doesn’t need too much PSI. I have a high pressure regulator coming right out of my tank and a low pressure right before it enters the house. It seems to give everything in my house that is running off propane (heat, water heater, dryer, range and not generator) enough gas to keep them all going. I forget if I mention it but I installed the same set up for my father in law minus the large tank. He’s running off of 2 dual 26 gallon tanks that I connected together. You can find the adaptor on amazon from Mr. Heater. Overall I’m happy with both set ups I just like not having to lug propane tanks to get filled. But then again I lug his to get filled and my 26 gallon tank that runs my shop heater. I ultimately got this one because I didn’t want to have too little of a generator and also didn’t want my generator to be running at lax capacity the whole time either.

    Thanks for this video. I have the same genny and want to do the same thing (hook to my home propane). Duromax says their 8500 watt and up units require 3 psi of propane pressure. What pressure is your home propane? Mine comes in at 11 inches water column and I am not sure if that will run the unit or it really does require the 3 psi. Also, Duromax says to always use the provided regulator (which you took off). Any idea why that is? Is it a negative pressure regulator that will stop the flow of propane if the unit stalls out but the supply line is still on? If you forget to shut off your valve does the pressure of the propane cause it to leak through the generator somehow?

    Hi .. thanks for the video .. i had 2 quick questions:
    1. If you removed the regulator (that came with it) - what do you have regulating the propane pressure? Is there some other regulator at the main propane tank?
    2. Is 1/2 inch black pipe what's needed for this generator, or would a 3/4 pipe be ever better?
    Thank you.

    • @jsjunkremoval
      @jsjunkremoval  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have a high pressure regulator at my tank. Before the house is a low pressure regulator. Some have dual stage regulators. Either way if you have a tank and other appliances running off of propane it’s been regulated down to low pressure if you’re tying in after the propane comes in the house. If you tie in right out of the tank you’re going to need to regulate it down to low pressure. I used 1/2” for mine. Works fine. Remember the hose that comes with it is like 1/4” or 3/8”, it’s small. 3/4” would work for long run. When I help my buddy install standby generators we use 3/4 up to 16kw and 1” after that up to 22kw. When we do the portables most of the time it’s in 3/4” and then reduced to 1/2” at the generator and that’s because he doesn’t want to have to stock a bunch of different pipe and flex.

Battery checked good. I called Westinghouse support twice and emailed them twice over a seven day period. They never returned my call or email. So I returned it today. Had great reviews; loved the generator. I just wish that it would have started via the push start. I am in mid seventies & may not be able to pull the cord in coming years.

How much is the total cost labour plus materials for the transfer switch you are using. The generlink is kinda pricey. Also since this has 12 THD, will that harm my home alarm system digital panel?

    You should start the unit with the idle control set in the on position for a cold engine to keep the wear and tear down on the engine. These are Chinese engines so keep that in mind. The best thing you can do for this unit is change the oil after a few hours of run time to synthetic oil. Mobil one 4T 10/40 is good oil to use.
