Absolutely loved this informative video, especially the hilarious Salesforce segment! I just want to point out the pyramid was only the tallest west of the Mississippi until 1974. LA has kept this title since then with it’s 3 tallest buildings…however one could argue the Salesforce’s decorative “head” deserves the title more than the Wilshire Grand’s skinny spire.

I have not been to LA for twenty years, nor have I covered every square foot of the country west of the Mississippi. So, I will defer to you. I find that compilations of tallest buildings are the least reliable bits of information on the internet. If you give me the list of the three buildings, I gave put that in an erratum below the video. Thanks.

What I think I heard was good building in the wrong location? If so, I agree. Lots of towers in Manhattan works for me, but making San Francisco vertical in its downtown, or anywhere but the periphery doesn't work. Iam not smart enough to explain this. It makes SF too generic?

I don't know that I said "good building in the wrong location." I like the building and its location is okay with me. In fact, in a broad form follows function approach, the pyramid form follows the function of not falling down in a major earthquake. And so, it makes the building very San Franciscan to me. As someone who grew up in NY, I did not have the same abhorrence for a skyscraper in San Fransisco, which is why I invited Jeff into the video. Prior to Transamerica in 1969, the 555 California Street building was completed, and it has 53 floors, but no spire. I did not hear complaints about this tall boxy building. Before that was the 44 Montgomery Street in 1967 at 43 stories. Thus, skyscrapers were coming regardless, and I think Transamerica is the best of them. Thanks again, Steve!

Thanks! Life itself can be very funny, depending on how you want to approach it. I hope you enjoy some of the other videos. Some have more humor than others!
