    The reason the driver side headlight looks brighter on objects in front of you is because of the cutoff. The driver side cutoff steps up from the left, and usually the upper part of that step is what is going to shine on objects in front of you. So in your dash-cam footage, the cutoff steps up on the left corner of their bumper but the passenger side headlight has the same cutoff pattern, so it isn't going to have the same position of light on the right side of the bumper. Most "reflector" headlights have a flat cutoff line which is why they have the same light pattern across the entire beam. Projectors have a cutoff plate inside otherwise it would look like high-beams all the time. The step comes from that plate and depending on your region, its either a step up from left for right side road driving or a step up from right for left side road driving so oncoming traffic isn't blinded. It also allows the beam to be higher for more down-road illumination.
    As for the condensation not going away right away when the headlights are on is because these are LED, which don't put off much heat into the housing itself because of the heatsink. BUT, they shouldn't have condensation on them regardless because they should be sealed. Moisture will kill LEDs.

    Excellent update video. I am looking into buying the V1s eventually. Instead of using crimp splices, solder the wires, reduses resistance in the connections significantly and it would make sure you won't have any more problems with the DRLs.

    I did something similar with the Diode dynamics c-lights, and really the best way to do it would be to solder it. I know not everyone is capable or comfortable doing it, but if done right it'll last pretty much forever and be solid as a rock.

      Solder is not SAE approved, and crimping is because solder cracks over time. Proper silicone covered crimp with approved wire wrapping is your best bet.

      @@wuola92 what I do is form a loop, twist together, then solder, then wrap in heat shrink, then wrap in electrical tape. I would think that would keep it stable and connected for a very long time. What you're describing I would agree with in proper circumstances, but those T-taps they provide are pretty bad. Plus I think crimps you find at an auto parts store are also cheap and weak.

    Great video! I just wanted to see how these headlights were holding up now after 2 years of this video being posted. Thanks!

    Hey man, somehow stumbled across your video and I don't even own a WRX haha. Chances are the "issue" are having with your lights is actually intended. Some projectors allow a little bit of light to disperse above the cutoff line on the passenger side to light up road signs etc. that would otherwise be in complete darkness with a clean cutoff from a projector. Looks a bit strange when looking at your car from in front but beats not being able to see your exit. Best of luck man.

      The problem with dudes head lights are likely related to the shit autozone battery he is using. Take a look @ 2:39 duracrap batteries are known for being horrible. Hope that thing is in a trashcan at this point.

      Somehow I doubt this is the case. Subispeed-branded parts aren’t exactly known for living up to the price tag.

      @@messmeister92 I just don't get why they aren't seriously working to fix their QC issues. These headlights look INCREDIBLE...they would be making a killing if they actually had $1,000 quality in them, people would absolutely be buying them.

    I love my subispeed headlights, except the right side running lights are dimmer and a more cream color. And the left side is a bright white

    Condensation is not normal. But if it gets excessive drill little holes at the bottom for air cycle

    Is the lighting harness wired in series or parallel? If in series, the voltage could be dropped through the first one. So that the second one is receiving less voltage. Giving it less, could possibly result in a different output, like what your getting.

    I'm looking at picking these up but I'm afraid of the condensation issues. Do you have any issues with that now?

  • @nicolara2884
    @nicolara2884 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would use a voltmeter to see if there is any resistance! Maybe the light isn’t getting enough voltage! I seems to be a direct output! All the power is coming from the fuse box hypothetically let says it’s using 10v and your left light is using 5v and resistance is making your right light 3v causing it to appear dimmer

  • @messmeister92

    Pretty much everyone I’ve talked to running SubieSpeed-branded lights of any type has had issues, ranging from uniformity issues (like yours), to short life expectancy, to complete duds out of the box.

      It's a shame because they look absolutely incredible.
      Because of said feedback, I ended up putting a pair of OEM LEDs from a 2017 STi Limited in my 2019 WRX Premium. Plug n play installation, OEM quality, looks awesome. I think the Subispeed headlights look better, but you can't beat the OEM reliability and ease of install.

    Worst wiring job ever. Have you heard of split looms? Have you heard of heat shrink tubing to cover your connectors? It's quite possible your wiring is decaying. Yes it happens. Happened to me and my HID kit.

    Would a subaru dealer be able to install these headlights?

    • @projectWRX15
      @projectWRX15  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Possibly. A specially car lighting shop may be more willing to I would say. Also, subispeed put up an install video if you are interested in doing yourself. Took me about 3 hours to install myself .

    • @SaoGage
      @SaoGage 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't ever ask a Subaru dealer to do this kind of modification. They're more likely to fuck your car up than do it correctly, and most probably wouldn't agree to it in the first place.
      You have to google / search for specialty shops that do this kind of thing. They're out there. I even was able to have a tuner shop install my headlights for me, and they're about as "expert" as it gets working on these vehicles. Of course a tuner shop doesn't normally do this type of work, but they definitely can and of course are being paid for it, so you might have success going that route.
