I get the competitive argument against the villager assist settings but it feels like whenever devs try to cater to a competitive type of player, the fanbase dwindles and dies because it is no longer made for the player its made for the winner.

It's a silly superiority thing anyway. Queuing up villagers on time is not a skill that makes you a better player, just overwhelms beginners. I'd rather have people focus on fun stuff like fights instead of villager production.

Been an Age player since '97, enjoying each title from their release. AOM will always be the most underrated MVP, as well as AOE III. Love the OG AOE and remember hyping hard for the Age of Kings but AOM is pure memories
Age of Mythology combined with the Percy Jackson books have given me a lifelong interest in Mythology and Religions in general. Ever since I was five years old, I haven’t went a year without diving deep into a new Mythology.

IMO there's nothing about the Chinese "dlc" that is worth salvaging. The whole thing was a lazy, powercreeping mess that made the game objectively worse. They will have to rework it from the ground up
The original Chinese expansion was terrible. I hope they do a completely different campaign this time around, the story and the voice acting was so bad in the original.
I’ve actually never heard of this game until the recent trailer but loved Warcraft 3, age of empires 2, starcraft, tiberian sun, and C&C generals so I’m excited to get into another RTS. The genre of my childhood
The auto allocate vills setting is good for kids getting into an RTS and its only available in custom game so imo its a great option to have for those who would want something like that.
The villager priority is what is going to make me buy the game. I dont have enough time to be a sweat on this like before. But I love to tactically play without having a phd in resource management, just give me an army and an enemy to defeat, W for the devs and dads haha. A toggle feature would be nice for ranked competitive though
Ah yes! AOM 2 looks simply amazing! This retold version of AOM feels different enough to me. Just would have loved a day/night cycle. I know not everyone’s fav thing but I’d love it. The custom eco thing I don’t think is a bad thing but I also think once you get so fine tune to build orders you won’t really use that feature at all. Also testing out villager centers is quite fun. You can really boom your eco or treat them like manors for Atlantis just without pop increase but damage instead. Better way to safely be bold and boom at the same time. Tho I think it will take some getting use to.
the ground... it's so cool... the small details on the animals and soldiers...Really cool it flows cool like the fps the move ...I don't know how it gonna be in the end but now it is looking really beautiful and the color of the civ(green) is soooo beautiful they glow really cool lol
arkantos and his son kastor's AoM campaign stories are legendary and unforgettable in my childhood... i hope the AoM Retold Dev will even expand to more campaign scenarios and new characters with unique gameplay design per missions because imo its the best part of AoM (I'm not a competitive player, would rather just play with skirmish AI if I'm playing some random match)
The villager assist needs some work. It has a terrible habit of putting all my vils on wood, or no vils on wood. It also enjoys taking Norse dwarfs off gold to put them on other resources. Other than that, this is a really good remake and I love it.
Ah, I didn't even know there was a closed beta available for purchase. I have it preordered but I'm going to wait until September. It looks great and will definitely be nostalgic of my childhood.

I think that is here and there. I see where you are coming form though. I find the new UI is terrible. takes up lots of space and the recourses are on a completely different side of the screen then the building menu. the original was slick and easy to read.
The Devs did say that you will have the option to toggle between the old and the new God portraits. Those old potraits have been remastered in full HD so they did care about it.
I think the quality of life improvements will do a lot to improve player retention. Pro's will also take advantage of it, and to a higher degree, so I don't think its an issue.

Automatic villager production feel reasonable to me, because it reduces apm/multi-tasking but not decision making. The resource balancing, however, takes away from you deciding what locations on the map your villagers work at, which I don't care for as much.
Why are so many people complaining about the "auto" mechanics that are in the game currently? Y'all are genuinely already bitching about competitive play when the game isn't even done lmfao -- it's not even close to balanced in its current state either, yet nobody is complaining about that. Things will change over time and things will get fixed over time. The "auto play" mechanics should, ideally, be disabled for competitive/ranked play but kept enabled or toggleable for casual or vs AI gameplay. It makes RTS games more digestible and easier for new players to play.. thus increasing the population and popularity of rts games. It's like you guys WANT to gate-keep and keep RTS games on a dying trend.

RTS lost a lot of popularity because of the skill gap and APM requirements. The best way to bring people to the genre is to make it widely accessible. The answer to the more automated gameplay is to remove it from ranked entirely, or have 2 separate ranked modes. A no automation mode, and vise versa.
I've heard it said that APM only really matters when it comes to ultra competitive play. For the rest of us, game sense, strategy and good macro are far more important. Which means you have to think. Might be a hint as to another reason why RTS has lost popularity

Remake. It's a new engine so everything has been rebuilt. Graphics are pretty noticable side by side, units aren't made of 10 polygons. But you don't really see them up close anyway.

I am all in favor of auto-queue, even in ranked. Back in AoE 1, there was not even queue system. The player can only produce a single unit or tech and wait to produce again. It makes the game harder and less fun. In my opinion the focus should be microing the battles and planning the macro with your strategy/gameplan, instead of focusing on recurring actions per minute just to maintain your eco/production. Now let's talk about the viewership, what we want? Great battles. So auto-queue is aligned for the players focusing more on the battle. Also, the auto-produce (even auto-eco) will NOT handle raids. So the player has to do the actions to defend from raids and adjust the eco accordingly

Fighting noises seems weird to me at 14:14 until 14:24. Original Version sounds better there.
