Models are the reason why I love fixing cars today. I built over 400 kits, from 1972-1979.

I thought about the idea of a model museum. Someone needs to preserve this stuff.

I think the seller had his own hobby shop. The number of spares, accesories, several kits of the same and how was packed points to a seller more so than a collector. Just my opinion.

I agree. Too much random stuff for a collector to have. More in line with a hobby store. Great stuff.

I agree. There are some gems in there that collectors would go for: Johan, old Craftsman and Revell kits not seen in over 50 years. But the rest are more common, easier to kits. Nothing really to do back flips over.

Great collection ! , , ,I remember that Monogram '32 hot rod kit @25:01, that was one of the very first models I built back in 1968 at age 7, it was a $1 something at a Rexall drug store that was just 3 blocks away from our house

I had a collection that spanned the late 70's until 2006ish? I was working at walmart in the early 2000's, so bought a lot of clearance kits then. I recognized a lot of my collection in this video, which was fun, as I did sell my collection awhile back.

I collected model cars since I was a child. I am now 66. About 20 years agoI sold my collection of about 1000 kits and dealer promos. I cried when they left the house. I’m sure I didn’t get enough money out of them, but the finances got out of hand. I would be in heaven to see your collection. I have had most of the kit shown.

Good stuff, Gents! I see a bunch of old kits that I destroyed as a kid! I was a little hard on things back then.
I blame it on bad parenting mostly. When I was five, my dad took me to my first demolition derby. Every day after that, there was some kind of demolition derby at my house, so yeah, don't take little kids to see demolition derbies.
Anyway, let's see some more of that stuff!

A Museum is a fantastic idea Andy. Obviously the owner was a collector or had a shop, less a builder. To think they could have ended up in land fill or chucked in a 2nd hand shop of some sort. Who ever collected these now gets them recorded, televised, protected and as you say, preserved for many 1000s to enjoy on your channel or in person. OK he didnt have a plan for them,or his family wasnt sure what to do but im pleased to see its ended up with an enthusiast and store owner like yourself. We know you will respect and appreciate this ' life story' and share the journey with all of us. Its in a good place and together.

But man o man this takes me back to the little local hobby shop that I would ride my bike to on Saturday mornings with my allowance, trying to decide what kit to buy this week. Jo-Hans were always exciting because you never knew what color the kit would be molded in! Some of the aftermarket stuff was so cool. I remember white metal carbs and disk brakes, so many cool things. This may have set you back a pretty penny, but even just looking at these is worth it!!

Always kind of sad to see a collection like this. Going to make some assumptions here - have seen things like this often over the years. Some guy squirreled these away in a climate-controlled storage unit, probably paid thousands and thousands of dollars in rent over the years, then I'm assuming he died and whoever got control of the unit sold them for pennies on the dollar. Lesson to be learned: If your family has no interest in your hobby, make arrangements for what is going to happen to your stuff when you are no longer around. Best case, get rid of it yourself if you can get the timing right.

Agree would be good to know the backstory. Hopefully it was his house and didnt pay rent and he paid the estate a fair price for them. Mine is about a third of that and same mix. I can totally relate to the original collector too as that is how I keep mine ie in order and with the same grouping. TBH I love the box art and instructions and its almost a shame to build 'em. It would be great if you did keep them as a collection because once they're gone, they're gone.

Yep. I heard the story of a widow who threw thousands of models in the 1/35 scale in the garbage.

If that’s the case at least they’ve been sold back into the hobby rather than straight into a dumpster or landfill.

Sometimes people who horde stuff like this become greedy Gollums. You even see them on American pickers. They come over to buy things and it pains them to even get rid of a rusty screw. Wasn't there an episode of Frank and Mike being called back to this guys barn of Motorcycles and such because the owner had died. You can tell the family were overwhelmed to get rid of the stuff and even they didn't want to get rid of everything for fear they were going to be ripped off. They believed they were sitting on Hundreds of thousands of dollars as some of the stuff deteriorated into a heap of rust.
Even close family members might be reluctant to get involved for fear of family infighting that may occur because they could be accused of getting rid of things too cheaply. it's a delicate dance on the edge of a razor. I've been to so many estate sales because the kids don't even want to deal with the household collection of things.

Loved AMT an Johan models. Used to build both an enjoyed putting them together. These new kit prices are out of site now, can't afford them like I did. Plus they don't have the metal axels any more. I could jack them up that was popular in the 60s. Also made Tiger Paw tires by taking a red ink pen an color the white walls. Those were the good old days.

Lovely vid, you are a very lucky guy, and we are lucky that a guy like you found this stash.
Loving the look of your shop too, wish we had something like that over here.
