Just bought a 2012 3.8 with 63.000 kilometers, and took it to camping/overland, and i’m impressed and happy with it, i’ve had grand cherokees and 4runners but none of them gave me the running on hard gravel, and swampy/mud crossing control and safety that his little beast gave me
I have driven a Pajero of the first year (2007) of that model series for 360 thousand kilometers and none of the mentioned problems have occurred. It's confusing to listen to such a fault list when mine has only had the transmission oils (automatic) changed once and the front lower support arms and 1 brake caliper, as I remember, on the right side. Does not eat oil at all (3.2 DID), i.e. carefree kilometers. Ain't, front brake discs replaced.
Rear gear knock is mostly wheel hub nuts needing retightening. Simple part free fix. Once torqued up properly no problem, all good. My 3.2 diesel has done over 200,000 and is over 9 years old. Other than rear hub nuts needing tightening, not one of these issues has occurred and my Paj has been on some of the worst outback roads in Australia. Still drives like new.
sitting in my pajero watching this listening to the famous brake accumulator turkey gobble haha. great video, all in all they go hard offroad but are underpowered for highways with hills, always dropping down a couple gears for hills.
Watching this video, It makes the Pajero to be a piece of crap! In Europe, its nickname is the Million-mile Mitsubishi. Here in the UK, called the Shogun, farmers love it and no-one has anything bad to say about it.
fr, people absolutely love these. was surprised by the long video. btw which model years do you suggest? is 5 speed A750 way better? is the 3.8 as problematic as this guy claims?
Father in law have a 3.5 v6 with 500 000km on it with just normal maintenance he is not a car guy and it has been exceptionally reliable hardly any problems replaced a front shock once very impressive
Hi, i have a 3.2 Di-D from 2004, 20 years this year and 305,000 miles on the odometer, only one problem has occured, impact the Anti-Braking System has the pump was dirty and blocked. After a cleaning, the pump is ok. But then, it still not brake as it normally would. But still running like a charm, orgininal engine and gearbox :) Gotta find a brand new ABS now lol. Thanks for the info in the vid.
i wanted to buy one in a year. people say these are durabe but only thirsty on gas. do you suggest the 5 speed auto with 3.0, 3.5 or 3.8 engine? is the 3.8 mivec engine as problematic as this guy claims?
@@nyzz1351 do they drink that much fuel? how many liters per 100km? also, do every gen 4 get 5 speed auto or only from 2009 and up? would appreciate more info
I like the 2003+ V6 3.8L motor versions we have a few of in the USA. I have two with over 225,000 miles, all original, no rebuilding. I've had all previous generations also, with high miles. They are better than Toyota, Nissan (way better), USA brands, and any European competitors I've driven, tested or owned. One thing to do when present ASAP: remove the secondary intake butterflies that are in the intake plenum, or fasten them with permanent thread locker or via welding. I just remove them as they do nothing. From factory, they commonly come loose and damage the cylinders or valves, around 135,000 to 160,000 miles, some sooner. Ask me how discovered this? 😆 And spray any bushings with coconut or similar food oil, and suspension bolts with light anti-rust oil once a year. Will save your ass in climates with salts.
@ailtonbiji5024 my hobbyist mechanic friend removed intake and looked into it and saw 2 partly missing. Then I searched for it online with key terms and found it on a forum. I removed mine entirely. Have noticed no difference.
I’ve got a 2017 pajero, been having steering wheel knock when turning it left or right. Anybody got ideas? Been through forums and got nothing. Dealership wanted new steering column
Not fixable you have to tighten all the bolts and fill it with foam i just done mine and added pads all around the interior under and on the back doors in the bacl doors for extra sound deadening and insulation

hi, just considering 4runner 5gen or pajero 4 3.8. are you sure p4 drives better?
What’s the fuel average of 2012 model?

Great information, I really wish there was an index into these issues, or at least some time codes in the description.

Same issue at 120000km.
Easy fix

nice video. 3.8L 184kW is readily available in australia and thailand. or was, before it sold out. everyone loves it.
It's a bit thirsty though. The 3.2 diesel is the favorite in Australia

Great to know! I just bought a MY14 diesel with just 40k miles on it, so fingers crossed it’ll run strong
Mine is 414000 km, motor running like new but rear diff growling a little
There are lots of misinformation in this video!
