Amber's 2 questions (9:45): 1. The red flags uphill are a call to agitation, and to unity. Matadors wave red flags in front of bulls to anger them, and the color red has often been associated with revolution. 2. The "bulls on parade" lyric is a sort of pun, because that's a phrase often used at protests to say that the police or the military are there/charging at you, but it also refers to bulls as in Wall street bulls, people who buy and sell stocks aggressively, especially in weapons dealing, and make millions off people dying overseas. The whole song is a criticism of the military's massive budget and the lyric "they rally around the family, with a pocket full of shells" refers to how both US parties in the 90s talked about "family values" while funding war and weapons over healthcare, housing, education, etc.
Uh, the red flags are very specifically symbols of the international communist movement, just as the black flags are symbols of the international anarchist movement. You'll find both on the insignia of many "antifa" (anti-fascist) groups, as the two communities have frequently had to work together to avoid extermination by the fascist menace (communists, anarchists, and trade unionists were some of the main targets of Nazi purges, along with, of course, Jews, Slavs, Roma, the disabled, homosexuals, etc. Bet you can think of some current groups that share that list of targets). "Bulls on parade" comes more-or-less from The Great Depression (caused largely by the oligarchic economic system we're currently and inexplicably replicating), when many desperate people were forced to resort to making dangerous leaps onto moving box-cars in order to move to new areas in search of paying work. Private rail companies would hire vicious mercenary security guards (the "Pinkertons" were one well-known and reviled example) to roust such riders. These aggressive guards were called "bulls", for obvious reasons, and "bulls on parade" meant a bunch of them were coming to crack the skulls of anyone they found, so best get steppin'.

Song is from the album: Evil Empire, released: 1996. This song deals with the US military and their aggressive tactics. It mentions how the arms industry encourages war to get military contracts with lines like, "Weapons, not food, not homes, not shoes, not need, just feed the war cannibal-animal," and "What we don't know keeps the contracts alive and moving."
My favourite verse out of any song ever. Following on from the above "Weapons, not food, not homes, not shoes, not need, just feed the war cannibal-animal. What an amazing journey you're on! Don't let it get to your head, bro, stay the sincere man you are and never lose your sense of wonder.
Rage Against The Machine!! I heard this as a teen in the 90s. I secretly bought their self-titled album because it had a "Parental Advisory" sticker. Protest rock at it's hardest. Tom Morello on guitar was a game changer. All their albums are dope. Band broke up and joined Chris Cornell for AudioSlave.
"Bulls on Parade!" is metaphorical slang used as a warning that police/soldiers/gov't officials/etc. are present, and/or taking action. As it pertains to this song, it was written in response to the Communist wall being torn down in Germany in the late 80's, all the while the US was creating another wall at the border of Mexico. With the Soviets no longer posing a perceived threat to Americans, the military-industrial complex created fear of a new "enemy" down south, stirring up fear of Mexican and other Latin immigrants infiltrating. Fueled by this propaganda, hundreds of migrants were killed along the southern border. The overall message of the song is that while "the machine" tells you their concern is for the protection of American families, the real concern is creating more enemies to justify continuing to feed the "cannibal animal" that is the weapons and defense industries. The needs of the poor are ignored, they lack food, housing, and education. Libraries continue to empty, while arms warehouses, like our prisons, keep getting full. Keeping the masses uneducated so they don't realize what's really going on by feeding the public the message that it's about protecting families, not protecting the profits of weapons industries.
I would love the entire first album and would love to see you react to them all. Wake Up, Freedom, Take the power back...All of them! Tom Morello is awesome!
My recommendation for a female artist is Heart and a couple awesome songs of their is "Crazy On You" and "Barracuda." You will really dig those. Great for a road trip.
Really liked that Fiona Apple song back in the day. Maybe because I was exactly the right age, kind of a shame how much she went on to hate the music video though. I get it though, almost like she got popular for how beautiful she was instead of how gorgeous her voice was.
The members of Rage Against the Machine are well known for their leftist anti-authoritarian and revolutionary political views, and almost all of the band's songs focus on these views.

‘Freedom’ by RATM is one of their best, but yet, their whole discography is their best. Zach is an absolute lyrical genius, and these guys are the absolute best at what they do. They are the soundtrack to the revolution.

They redefined the metal/rap genre.....and the entire music scene on both sides of the Atlantic Full stop!! They influenced an entire generation!! Revolutionary...... historic.....game changing....... legendary......thousands of bands are influenced by them.
"Rally 'round the family with a pocket full of shells". My best interpretation of this has always been that politicians love to throw up the facade of family values while stuffing their pockets with blood money from the military-industrial complex and the NRA. Alanis Morisette is a great female artist to start with, along with The Cranberries. If you're looking for something harder you can check out Garbage, Hole (this one might get some hate), Evenescence, Meredith Brooks, Veruca Salt, Sleater-Kinney, and No Doubt. Indigo Girls for something a bit more folk music-like. Unless you're looking for something older, then you can check out Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, The Bangles, Fleetwood Mac (one of the leads is the most perfect creature on the planet, Stevie Nicks), Jefferson Airplane, or Heart. Maybe something really hard? Try Kittie and Jinjer. Maybe some ska? Try Saving Ferris. There are bands with female leads that I'm not really familiar with like Paramore, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, or Halestorm.
yeah that interpretation is also what I get out of it. It's about politicians rallying around family values while feeding the war machine. solid list of artists too
Amber you are amazing. My child is special needs and you and your husband bring me hope but at the end of the day i love when doeak their truth. I love when you feel the music and have to sway lol
If you want to see a female singer that will blow your mind, check out the band Jinjer and their song Pieces (it's pronounced Pie-seas) the live session. Also as far as road trip music is concerned, I always like Deep Purple, songs like Highway star, space truckin', and lazy.

The "mixer" sound you are talking about near the beginning of the song is done with a guitar pedal called a "Wah" pedal. That's a pretty standard pedal. The "scratch" part is also done by the guitar. Tom Morello is doing a technique of scraping with his hand up and down the guitar strings I believe he is also using pedal effects during that portion as well and using the pickup switch on the guitar as well to toggle between two pickups to cause the sound to cutout when he wants it to.

I once got tear gassed at a Rage concert. It was awesome!!!! Tom Morello also toured with Bruce Springsteen and performed some truly amazing solos.
I'd recommend watching the lyric videos with Rage, it helps follow along to really pick up the amazing bars and the meanings behind the songs. Also, Freedom is an early Rage song that is very much worth checking out. Actually, can't go wrong with any of them. The great thing about Rage is that they are still relevant. The sad thing is that they are still relevant.
There are two exceptions I would make for this: Testify and Freedom, both due to how important the imagery on screen is to understanding the song as a whole.
I am always surprised that those interested in social Justice in the younger generation have never heard of RATM. Definitely look em up. Zach is horribly underrated as a rap lyricist. Morello on guitar is also very underrated.
Fuck social justice warriors, they are ruining America, especially guilty white liberals!
@@nathanhoward45 I didn't say SJW. I said those interested in Social Justice. Not the same, and I actually agree with you about "woke, white liberals". I am white...
Ratm is basically rage for the machine these days..compliance is a death sentence....WAKE UP..
Morello is well respected. He even did a whole Masterclass in guitar playing.
Morello isn't underrated he's recognized as a top 10 legend jn the eyes of vh1
Anytime you listen to RATM for the first time, you need lyrics. Lots to digest. They been trying to tell ppl for 30+ years now. 🔥 Also, yay Amber!
It's nice to see you folks come around and react to the music I've been listening to for years.
Lyrics, lyrics, lyrics ! All rage reacts must use lyrics!
I saw them for the first time in 94’ and was hooked for life! Zack de la Rocha’s lyrics and delivery is unmatched🔥🔥🔥
The lead singer is Zack de la Rocha and he wrote most of the songs for Rage. An amazing lyricist
It's been 3 years since doing this only reaction to Rage Against the Machine. "Killing in the Name" is a must!
Awe...we do love you Amber.❤️ RATM is awesome.😀
I was not expecting that! but we loved it!!
Amber makes some real smart comments - can't wait to hear what she says about Rage - perfect song too!
Lol!! Dude Tom Morello the guitarist can make his guitar sound like a turn table u wanna see someone amazing sound with a guitar check this out live and watch the solo
I legit thought it was a turn table
Tom Morello always makes people ask “is that a guitar making that sound?” He was the bands DJ
I'll give you 2 female artists.
1) Jewel - "Who Will Save Your Soul" or "Standing Still"
2) Alanis Morissette - "Jagged Little Pill" or "Thank You"
THANK YOU!! We need to hear a female!
@@RobSquadReactions No problem man. I do highly recommend both of them but suggest Jewel over Alanis because Jewel has a beautiful and powerful voice like nothing you've ever heard before.
@@RobSquadReactions Pat Benatar is a great female to listen to. Heartbreaker is a good first song of hers to start with.
BabyMetal, Nightwish, Unleash the Archers, Jinjer...
@@NetProphet76 Come on man, let's let them get through some essentials first before we unload the heavier stuff on them. Remember they're still fresh to the scene.
We love you both!
Here are the lyrics to this song Bulls On Parade:
Come wit it now!
Come wit it now!
The microphone explodes, shattering the molds
Either drop tha hits like de la O or get tha fuck off tha commode
Wit tha sure shot, sure ta make tha bodies drop
Drop an don't copy yo, don't call this a co-op
Terror rains drenchin', quenchin' tha thirst of tha power dons
That five sided fist-a-gon
Tha rotten sore on tha face of mother earth gets bigger
Tha triggers cold empty ya purse
Rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
Weapons not food, not homes, not shoes
Not need, just feed the war cannibal animal
I walk tha corner to tha rubble that used to be a library
Line up to tha mind cemetery now
What we don't know keeps tha contracts alive an movin'
They don't gotta burn tha books they just remove 'em
While arms warehouses fill as quick as tha cells
Rally round tha family, pockets full of shells
Rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
Bulls on parade
Come wit it now!
Come wit it now!
Bulls on parade!
Bulls on parade!
Bulls on parade!
Bulls on parade!
Bulls on parade!
I shared lunch with Zach one time with his son jarocho buddies in LA. It was a wonderful experience.
Zack de la Rocha is the vocalist. Rage's songs all have deep and controversial themes. You should dig in!
Female artist recommendation: Pat Benatar - Love is a Battlefield
New to your channel. You two are awesome to watch; I wish I could have been there at the start of your channel to see you unfold. Jay, you're such an encouraging young man (to me) to watch. I've not checked out your other channels but you guys talk about your family enough here and there that it's clear you are a family man who grew up... actually I don't know but you only listened to gangster rap before this. What an amazing journey you're on!
Don't let it get to your head, bro, stay the sincere man you are and never lose your sense of wonder.
the original rock rap band and probably still the best
Doesn’t Zack (singer) have Mexican ancestry as well?
@@sarahjane8146 With a name like Zach de La Rocha, I'd imagine he's at least partly Mexican or of some other Latin descent.
Woooo! Yeeeessss! You’re in for a treat!
Female Artists/Lead Singers: -Alanis Morissette: You Oughta Know -Fiona Apple: Criminal -Florence and the Machine: Drumming Song -The Cranberries: Zombie -Sarah McLachlan: Possession -Tori Amos: Cornflake Girl -Thanks!!!
Thank you so much for the suggestions we need to react to more women
@@RobSquadReactions Also, try Janis Joplin. Start with Ball and Chain Live at Monterrey Pop Festival. You'll be blown away.
Really liked that Fiona Apple song back in the day. Maybe because I was exactly the right age, kind of a shame how much she went on to hate the music video though. I get it though, almost like she got popular for how beautiful she was instead of how gorgeous her voice was.
You guys make me so happy watching your excitement when you hear new music. I love your 😊
The members of Rage Against the Machine are well known for their leftist anti-authoritarian and revolutionary political views, and almost all of the band's songs focus on these views.
and we fall for it every four years. all corrupt and beyond surface, intentional, subliminal propaganda. Can't be all in on left or right at this point but it makes for great entertainment i guess.Great band but times to rage against the whole machine.
RATM based af
1st video I've seen on your channel and really enjoyed and lo ed both of you guys. Plus its one of my alltime favorite bands and songs. Anyways definitely earned a like and sub and look forward to seeing more of your reactions.
So many great female rock stars. My favorites are the groups Kittie, Garbage, Evanescence, Jinjer, Cranberries. Of course Janis Joplin will always be my number 1.
Mine too. 😍I'm pissed at myself for leaving her out.
“What we don’t know keeps the contract alive and moving. They don’t gotta burn the books they just remove em while arms warehouses fill as quick as the cells, rally round the family, with a pocket full of shells.”
‘Freedom’ by RATM is one of their best, but yet, their whole discography is their best. Zach is an absolute lyrical genius, and these guys are the absolute best at what they do. They are the soundtrack to the revolution.
Amber is lovely ! - what a smile . . . . makes my day
I saw them live at a festival, Pinkpop. The crowed caused a minor earthquake of 1.6 on a richter scale. Next one... “Killing in the Name” , “Bullet in the Head” , “Wake Up” , “Guerrilla Radio”🤘🏻🔥
Just cuz she here, u get a thumbs up, B 4 the reaction! So cool u people R so tight!😎☠️💪
"They rally round the family, with a pocket full of shells" it's and anti military industrial complex/war song
I started out watching this channel with just Jordan at the helm and he was a lot of fun, but everybody loves Amber now… lol
You two rock!
I guess I missed this video several months ago, so just getting to it, hey it’s RATM, I had to watch your reactions. 😎
OMG guys! Rage ATM....were (still are) the most radical, politically conscious, anti-establishment, revolutionary band of the 1990s! They redefined the metal/rap genre.....and the entire music scene on both sides of the Atlantic Full stop!! They influenced an entire generation!! Revolutionary...... historic.....game changing....... legendary......thousands of bands are influenced by them.
love the vibe, love your partner.Whole lotta love guys
Tom Morello can use guitar effects like no one else.
Long overdue for more Rage Against the Machine
It's about politicians rallying around family values while feeding the war machine.
solid list of artists too
Guitarist Tom Morello makes his instrument do INSANE stuff. That’s him scratchin’- no mixing.
Zack drops real knowledge!✊🏼
Amber you are amazing. My child is special needs and you and your husband bring me hope but at the end of the day i love when doeak their truth. I love when you feel the music and have to sway lol
If you want to see a female singer that will blow your mind, check out the band Jinjer and their song Pieces (it's pronounced Pie-seas) the live session. Also as far as road trip music is concerned, I always like Deep Purple, songs like Highway star, space truckin', and lazy.
I was jamming to this live in concert at 16. 40 now and has never lost impact and power. "Know your enemy" is worth a look
If you're not sure what's making a sound, it's Tom Morello's guitar. He's magic.
#BigFacts
This song for me in the 90s was huge - I was in my mid-teens so listening to this song felt like I was experiencing something so different and mature.
More Rage! But be sure to watch the lyric videos for all the songs.
Their entire self-titled debut album is banger after banger, all with strong messages. Many sound just as relevant today as they did 30 years ago.
That noise is no DJ..It’s called a wa wa Pedal I think (guitarists use to distort sound in a good way) it’s true, raw music☺️!! Anything Rage against the machine LIVE 90s is good 😀Actually live, it’s even better!!
Thank you for sharing this with me
A female artist for Amber would be Stevie Nicks. My all time favorite Stevie song is Gold Dust Women when she was with Fleetwood Mac. But her solo career was awesome.
Tom Morello can scratch on the guitar just like a dj on turntables. He does it in a lot of their songs. Blew my mind first time I heard it.
This is the ultimate protest song. "Bulls on parade", refers to the military industrial complex (as well as militarization of the police).
Agree. Biden just gifted $82 Billion in military weapons to the Taliban/Terrorists who will delight in our demise. That is THE Machine to defeat. The machine who just funded terror…..
Guerrilla Radio, Bulls on Parade, Testify, and so many others are so good!! Tom Morello is unbelievable what he can do with a guitar!!!. Zach is awesome when he gets a mic 🎤 in his hand!!!
Looking forward to Faith No More "We Care A Lot" for a similar feel, if you're into it. Maybe Amber doesn't know it?
Seeing your reactions to this, you guys will love it. And it's REAL TALK.
We will give it a listen! she knows nothing from RATM
@@RobSquadReactions, the band is Faith No More. The song is "We Care A Lot." FNM, "WCAL" lol. ;)
No one seems to like to react to Chuck era Faith No More. I love Introduce Yourself. A great album
@@ameliacharles7119, I'm unfamiliar, but I'll look it up.
I saw these guys in 2000? At Tibetan Freedom Concert, and was supposed to see them again at the same place last year but because of covid they canceled. But they're doing another tour this year so they're still relevant. BTW the band went on to form Audioslave with Chris Cornel for many years. This song is 90's and I spent Many!!! Hours watching videos so I could learn all the guitar parts lol. These guys are so good live, during this song the whole crowd grabbed anything they saw and threw it in the air. The group of friends that all went to this concert lost everything during this song lol. Anyways great reaction guys.
I was at the tiben concert emptied water bottles then filled with vodka smoking weed in the tent with Tibetan monks dressed in red mmmmm
They were so hard they made the FBI's watch list
They made the list because their lyrics were nothing but anti American bs...
@garbajful exactly!
@@garbajful isn’t it American to be able to criticize the government when you disagree with their policies?
@@ericlin158 Sure...But they're Marxists that want to tear down the system. That's not American.
DOPE!!!!!!!!!ive seen them concert hugest mosh pit ive ever been in.....
Alot of their music is political... war and poverty and government issues... amazing band!!!! Zach de Laroche is the lead singer. Tom morello is the guitarist. Zach raps ALOT and Tom is one of the best guitarist out there. In my opinion.
We love it. Thanks for stopping by!
@Robsquad Zach is a true Emcee. He used to battle in LA while he was in his first band. Zach has some great features on 2 Run the jewels #3( Kill your Masters) & #4 ( Ju$t )
He also has one with one of the GOATS in Hip Hop the legend KRS1 called C.I.A.. those three songs are def ones you need to check out
de la Rocha
"*they* rally around the family... with a pocket full of shells." It's about hypocrisy and the contrast of supposedly benign intentions of government while exposing the inherent violence that surges underneath. Y'all should hit up the whole Battle of Los Angeles album next!
They don’t need to burn the books they just remove them
While arms warehouses fill as quick as the cells...
Cancel culture.
And who's removing books now? Amazon. But I'm sure you probably agree with the books they're removing huh?
@@garbajful lol where’d that come from? Don’t agree with any information/history/books being removed. Why the big ASSumtion?
@@SdMbL1 I just figured you were a leftist if you were quoting RATM
The "mixer" sound you are talking about near the beginning of the song is done with a guitar pedal called a "Wah" pedal. That's a pretty standard pedal. The "scratch" part is also done by the guitar. Tom Morello is doing a technique of scraping with his hand up and down the guitar strings I believe he is also using pedal effects during that portion as well and using the pickup switch on the guitar as well to toggle between two pickups to cause the sound to cutout when he wants it to.
These guys seem angry
Nope, that wasn't a mixer, that was guitar played by Tom Morello with a wah pedal & other effects, amazing player! Love the channel & keep up the great work, hope you are all well. Cheers!
Y’all are missing the lyrics so bad. Zack de la Rocha is a poet and his words are more relevant than ever.
They are on the sound track to the movie The Matrix. "How long? Not long!" Love them. They are such a great fit for that movie and brings out the intense feelings of urgency.
New sub here! Love you guys, more than Brad & Lex now, cuz you BOTH embrace new genres. Been binge-watching your older videos today n I'm amazed by how far you've come!
10:46 female artist... and you still haven't reacted to JINJER?!!!! The gateway to Jinjer is the song 'Pisces' (live studio session). As for more suggestions, the subs will take it from there!
Amber is a catch god bless you guys !!!
A brilliant Rap/Rock Protest Band that were prominent in the early 90's and loved across the world.
Listen to "Bullet In The Head", "Killing In The Name Of", Fuck it listen to all their material !
I love your channel and you are both good people !!!
awwww - you are truly a lovely team... Rage Against the Machine are strong activi8ts who strengthen those who feel overwhelmed and helpless... and the guitarist, Tom Morello, has a 'masterclass' if you want to learn
It was fun to look back on you two from a couple of years ago. You need to do more Rage, though!
As a late family addition, it's nice to see the path to Amber being on 😊
