That's a great idea and to add my own little flare to it I'd get a board and paint that persons name on it and either make something so I could close by the tree like stilts for it to stand on and when someone asked explain yeah so I named this tree Sam cause I planted it in his honor! Just a little extra for them, me, and if I were to have to move away the next family would know and explain to the next family, person, or couple would know and hopefully keep trying to do it for their lost love ones wether it be just family or even add friends and possibly even family pets wow that would make an orchard of fruit trees or a really huge forest but hey gives new meaning to family orchard/forest but I bet it'd be nice!

When my Dad died, I couldn’t help thinking about his life and how it left an impact on my family and this earth. It dawn on me that every person who met my dad, had a little or a lot of his essence spread to them. Later in life my Dad tried to be a kind man and love people with generous time given to them. The essence of your father was spread to every person who he met in his life and the kindness he’d shown to you is now in your children. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada and we are beginning our winter. The ground is frozen. In the spring I always plant a new tree for my father but this spring I will also plant a tree for your father cause I know my Dad ( who was also a Military man) would’ve like your dad. May god’s mantle of love, cloak and bless your family, Justin.
A very kind gesture! My dad was born in Wymark! Then was moved to Ontario where I was born. My mother said she makes a gift for someone every Christmas because when my grandmother died, she needed to fill that void somehow. I never knew this till yesterday. I will do this starting NOW! I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my dad 2 years and 5 months ago. Hardest day of my life! Still miss him everyday! I work at a garden nursery and farm and my work family all went in together and bought me 10 big trees to plant in memory of my dad. He loved Gatlinburg in the fall. So I’ve got beautiful maples planted at the entrance of my farm and every time I see them I think of my precious dad! Praying for God to give you all peace and comfort.

My dad died 19 years ago, and the grief washed over and through me every day for the first month. I grieved for a full year after that in silence, but one day, a bit over a year later it struck me hard one day as I drove home from work. I had stopped at a red light when it hit me, and froze me. The traffic behind me blew their horns until I could dry my tears and move on. Grief catches us all when we least expect it, when we think we are done with it. We are never done with it, grief just morphs into whatever we need it to be in order to survive the sadness of losing a parent. Losing my dad? Perhaps not, since I sometimes still feel his presence near me. I will plant a tree for Boots in the spring. He was pure gold.

When my Dad passed in 1999 at 60 yrs. old, some people told me life will never be the same again. They were right. The 'first' thing is spot on. Everything you share brings hard memories back and I completely understand how you feel. Crying with you every time. ❤Time eases the harsh pain but the absence of their presence is always noticeable. I pray the Lord's sweet comfort over you all. You are blessed beyond measure. You are loved. And he's been residing in heaven for 30 years now. Strangest feeling when my mom left us to join dad in heaven. I was sad.,.but she was so ready to go too. I am am orphan now. My dad died 19 years ago, and the grief washed over and through me every day for the first month. I grieved for a full year after that in silence, but one day, a bit over a year later it struck me hard one day as I drove home from work. I had stopped at a red light when it hit me, and froze me. The traffic behind me blew their horns until I could dry my tears and move on. Grief catches us all when we least expect it, when we think we are done with it. We are never done with it, grief just morphs into whatever we need it to be in order to survive the sadness of losing a parent. Losing my dad? Perhaps not, since I sometimes still feel his presence near me. I will plant a tree for Boots in the spring. He was pure gold.

We have a tree in our yard we planted for my husbands brother when he passed away the tree is huge now and wild and free... Brothers wife passed away too they are both climbing that tree as they did long ago when they met... Trees are a beautiful way to celebrate life... Xoxo
I don't normally comment I just watch having lost both my parents there will be a lot of Year of Firsts but time will heal and the advice that I can give you is how would would your dad want you to react as you go forward with your kids and your wife and your life he was very proud of you

When my Dad passed in 1999 at 60 yrs. old, some people told me life will never be the same again. They were right. The 'first' thing is spot on. Everything you share brings hard memories back and I completely understand how you feel. Crying with you every time. ❤Time eases the harsh pain but the absence of their presence is always noticeable. I pray the Lord's sweet comfort over you all. You are blessed beyond measure. You are loved. I was getting ready for work one day when my dad called to tell me my mom took her own life and I needed to come home. She was only 52, I was 32. That was 30 years ago. It still hurts. God bless

Time does not take away the sorrow of loss. I so sorry that you lost your mom in that way. 💔 I was 17 when my dad suddenly died. It was rough! I still miss him to! And he's been residing in heaven for 30 years now. Strangest feeling when my mom left us to join dad in heaven. I was sad.,.but she was so ready to go too. I am am orphan now. I have my husband, my children and my grand children. I have my siblings. I loved by good friends.... But I have no parents now.....
