      @@phineasfromtheshow it's not a thing just amazing actors do. You HAVE to when in theater. You're so small inside this huge stage, and you have to portray your movements for the back row. In TV, they zoom in so subtlety is better, but watch Broadway or other theatrical performances. Most people have to talk with their bodies. How they do so is what makes him a good actor. Some people do it too much and just flail on stage, some people look like moving sticks, not moving at all. It shows. Timothy seems to have good balance for stage presence. That's why he's a good actor

His character made some valid points, and when I mean some I mean a droplet. But the majority of his arguments are hypocritical & ironic, and for the white ppl in the audience it was like music to their ears to hear reverse racism/discuss topics where they can low key shade black ppl & get away with it.

    This just shows Timothée Chalamet's brilliance. The fact that he could portray a character so believably that it causes all this discussion and arguments in the comments. Especially that he chose a monologue by a character who is literally the opposite of who he is as a person, a belief system that is diametrically opposed to his own, and portray it so convincingly.

    I think it’s one thing to understand the satire in it. The issue is that the audience seems to be laughing very hard as if they’re in agreement with the CHARACTER’S views. Not laughing because of the satirical point of view

    • @elyse166
      @elyse166 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      right, they’re laughing like “hahah I feel that way too”, it’s just a little too hard and loud for me to think they don’t think that way

    • @vixenriah
      @vixenriah 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      i feel like that just means they were the exact type of audience the writer intended to hear the monologue. the last sentence being a slap in the face at the end of all of their laughing- like oh sh*t he’s talking about me. u can tell by how silent they got after his last line. i feel like an audience who already agreed w the moral wouldn’t have laughed as hard and would’ve reacted sooner to the final words

    I'm completely obsessed with this piece. The most interesting thing, and the difference between this performance and the shortened version he gives at his graduation/final performance (also on YT), is how the energy of the audience and the stage is powering his acting. Both are great performances, but this one is elevated by the excited energy of the crowd, and likely his energy on stage. It's awesome, all the way around.

Even when there's a little hicup on "portrait" it became part of his character .. reminds me of james dean ,Brando, and his comedic sense and timing reminds me of a young Shai lebouf ,I was councern clicking this video coz he might not live to the hype! Impressive is the right adjective to discribe this performance and it's only for. 3:22 minutes imagine if it was longer

    Wow, the rubbing of his hands while he looks behind himself before the last line is such elevated, nuanced acting. In one motion, he conveys the character second guessing himself and then doubling down in a commitment to the cognitive dissonance. At the same time, he has time to stifle a laugh if he needs to, where no one in the audience can see it. What a brilliant kid he was.
