- Hi everyone, here’s a detailed video that shows how to remove the steering column combination switch along with the airbag slipring on the VW Polo. This also applies to the VW Vento and Skoda Rapid. If you are looking at installing cruise control in your car, you’ll have to replace the combination switch assembly. This step-by-step video will show you how its done!

I had installed cruise control on my Polo so ended up changing the combi switch.

Hi Chris, nope nothing of that sort. Just need to re-adapt the window motors so it auto closes and opens upon the dab of the button. So we need to press the buttons of all the windows up and down twice from the driver side master window controls. That’s all.
Mr. Balan, how are you? I'm a new VW enthusiast, got myself a 2012 Vento 1.6 MPI, the comfortline doesn't have Trip/OK buttons on the stalk, can I just simply upgrade the stalk and get the MID functionality like in Highline or a VCDS tweak would be required with wiring?
Mr TurboPetrol, am doing great! Trust you’re doing well. You just have to change the stalks assembly; no VCDS changes required. The stalks have an L-shaped T41 connector. It should have all the relevant cables laid in place from the factory.

After the installation of combination switch , the front wipers aren’t working . Is it required to complete the installation of whole setup for the wipers to work
If you’ve connected the T41 connector to the combination switch, the wipers and indicators should work.

After reconnecting battery I have a few warning lights on. Airbag, tyre pressure and traction control. I have tried to reset but no luck and have been for a long drive. Any ideas? No issues before
@ashikm8083 Hi Ashik, the warning lights should usually go away after you drive for a few km. What car is this? Why was the battery disconnected? Did you do some changes to the car like some change of parts?

I have vento 2013 highline, in order to retrofit cruise control, just combination swap is okay or do I need to upgrade BCM and cluster as well ??
You’ll have to check what your BCM is. If the part number ends in 086, you’ll have to upgrade it.

Hello Sir, I have Polo 2017 1.2 MPI (Anniversary edition) Comfortline which doesn't have cruise control, can i fit one to it. It will be good to have in highways.
Hi Hemanth, you can install cruise control in your car. You’ll have to check what is the BCM installed in your car first as the BCM is the main component in enabling cruise control. It is located below the steering column, above the pedals. Check the last 3 digits - 086/087 and the likes. 087 supports cruise control feature. Some variants of the 086 unit supports it but have to check which one it is.

@hemanthsonu4 Service centres don’t do these jobs Hemanth. They do the routine work of servicing and repair/replacements of stock parts. Of course, if you have a good rapport with the technicians there, you can always request their help to do it out of the service centre. Some may oblige. 🙂

How much it cost to change in vw polo 1.6 highline
A new one costs Rs 16,000 or thereabouts. Better to get one from scrap vehicle. Can get for Rs 2500-3000.

Hi Lokesh, the combination switch retails for 6-7k. Did you check with the service centre? I would suggest checking with these car scrap yards in your city. They will offer you a much cheaper and sensible rate. Like 2-2.5k for a used one from a scrap/ accident salvage car.
Sir, I have polo confortline 1.2L, when I crank the engine, the wipers starts automatically and stops after few minutes. What could have gone wrong?
There is no other system which has malfunctioned.
Yash, how old is your Polo? I am suspecting a BCM issue. Try swapping the BCM with one from a scrapyard and test.
