Sorry to hear about this, hope China gets rules fixed. Hopefully, China still has more positives than negatives!

You see they were running. They obviously working with the people in that building because everytime someone comes looking for them the get a heads up and be out by the next day like Broiler Room the movie. I garantee you they still in that building in another room. They not leaving that building. These are Professional Scammers who make alot of money. Usually takes a hacker to find them and hack there systems eletronically.

Wow, this story was wild! Thanks for sharing and I hope it gets resolved. Did you have to pay a new deposit and sign a new lease with your current landlord to stay?

Either one of the landlord or agent tries to undercut each other services

I sued a landlord for only RMB7000 deposit, that took 3 years!! I won in the end, but I spent just as much for lawyers and court fees.
It took two different courts, two different lawyers and numerous trips, and 3 years of time!! But I am glad I did it to punish the landlord.

police may not care because it's a civil matter, they may scare the landlord a bit but if the landlord still doesn't return the money, then you have to go to court. If you know the court procedures, then you don't need to hire a lawyer which costs about a few thousand RMB. Lawyer fee is set by the government, the lawyers can't over charge. The lawyer fee is for entire case regardless of time it takes, it may be many years like what happened to me.

It's normal in China for landlords don't return the deposit, they try to cheat the renters when they can, because they know the renter has to sue them in court which costs the renter a lot of money and time.

Has something like this happened to you? Hopefully not, but let me know your rental horror stories! We can cry together 😪

Most renters in China expect their landlords will keep their deposits. Ask the local people who are renting to tell you if they have any good solutions to this problem. Not all landlords in China cheat but I think most of them do.

Don't give back the key until the landlord checked the place and returned the deposit (in cash) on the spot, must be cash on the spot, not later, otherwise don't give back the key or leave the place. As long as you haven't returned the key and you are still in the place, and there is not signing of the end of contract, then the place is still legally yours. The landlord has no right to be there, you have the right, then the landlord needs to get court order to evict you. So let's play game with them.

Why don't you live near Sea World in Shekou, Nanshan District, Shenzhen? There are a lot of foreigners in that neighborhood, and the transportation is convenient, the environment is also very beautiful, also by the sea, not as chaotic as Longhua District.

I don't think I would ever willingly live in Shekou 😅 it's a little insular. Not to mention it'd make my commute like 2.5 back and forth. I like where I live in Longhua, so I plan to stick around there 😇

@@BrianaisGoingPlaces I mean Longhua District is very chaotic, there are a lot of people, living for a long time will make people feel very depressed, the mood will become bad, even if you do not live in Shekou, Futian District is also very nice
