    Brilliant! I really enjoyed the trip. Im thinking of going down to the South of Spain on my Bike and catching the ferry Portsmouth to Bilbao, and then straight down through Spain. Your experience has given me the encouragement to start planning it. Thank you.

      andrew simkin I’d definitely recommend doing the ferry to and from Spain. It’s an easy an relaxing way to do it. I did that since this trip and it was great.

    I have a finca just a couple of hundred metres from your mum and dad's "upside down house" in Benissanet and am doing the trip this month, on a Kawasaki ZZR1200. Just over 1200 miles from our house in UK to Benissanet, so it'll be a test for me on that ZZR, as the longest trip to date has been less than 100 miles total. Stop-offs will be Orleans and Vielha (we'll approach via the Pyrenees south of Toulouse. I;m considering leaving the bike over there 'for the use of' whenever I'm over and flying back.
    I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually meet over there, Mark, as I've spoken to your mum and dad before in Victor's Bar Sole!

    Hi good film , top tip , helmet with a visor that flips up , get a small windscreen , stay off the motorways , it's far more interesting on the A roads , I particularly like the ride down the west coast it's beautiful ; )

    Finished watching today, things did get interesting haha!
    Good to see the Scrambler coping with the terrain. I imagine having a pillion makes the sand a bit easier. As far as I know, you're supposed to keep more weight over the back wheel, don't go too slow and let the bike find traction and do the work.
    A great video of your successful trip! It has definitely made me want to get out there soon.

    • @markgans9248
      @markgans9248  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phil480 Stupidly, I’d not previously considered the effect of a pillion, but that makes total sense! Thought it was a bit easy! 😂

    great video ..... good attempt for first try... maybe fiddle with the volume a bit as it seems to go loud and then quiet quite a lot .... keep biking and put up a google map of your route if you can

    • @markgans9248
      @markgans9248  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Simon Thanks! Yeah the audio is a bit inconsistent. I think it was because the mic would sometimes shift position slightly when taking off/putting on my helmet. Capturing external audio is also one of the weaker elements of a GoPro which isn’t as easy as it should!

  • @robinwatford
    @robinwatford 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love the video Mark, thanks for sharing. Did you stay over at any hotels between Calais and your friends house? I'm used to sharing a drive of that distance, but unsure how realistic it is to cover that distance in a (very long) day....

    • @markgans9248
      @markgans9248  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      robinwatford yes we stayed over in Paris and Clement Ferrand. Starting from the midlands, it took 8hrs to get to Paris. From there you could make it to the south of France in one hit I’d say

  • @wilswood8137

    Really enjoyed your film , we are looking at touring in Spain next year, could you let us know the route you took on this trip :)

    • @markgans9248
      @markgans9248  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wilswood#69 We entered Spain from the South of France and basically followed the coast past Barcelona, but If you’re going direct to Spain it’s probably best to tell you our route in reverse as we ended at the ferry. From Bilbao (which was very nice as we stayed one night there) we made our way South West way through Zaragoza (which is lovely) down to Mora d’Ebre and we stayed in the town of Benissanet. It was a cracking route from the Ferry as the terrain is so varied. We went from lush Green Valleys, to Barren Flats to Mountainous roads, all over the course of 5 hours. From Benissanet, we just ventured out in different directions each day. Highlights included a route from Falset to Gratallops, and the Beach we went to was Punta de la Banya.

    • @wilswood8137
      @wilswood8137 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Gansbuehler thanks mark , yes we are heading direct to Spain . We are heading down to bolnuavo in the region of Mercia , taking 2 nights 3 days to cross Spain, with a week down there with family and then taking the same amount of time to travel back
      Zaragoza was somewhere we were thinking of staying and then from there to Valencia , we are wanting to avoid using the motorways as much as possible as well :-)
      If you can recommend and routes from Bilbao then that would be wonderful thank you ( as this is going to be our first time touring abroad 😊)
      Thanks again 👍🏻

    Nice one Mark. I notice you have the Oxford pillion handles on, how does Katie get on with them as pillion? I've got some for my wife to use but we haven't been out yet.
    I'll admit I haven't watched all of the video yet, ran out of time @10:00 so I'll have to come back and watch more later. So far it has kept my attention.
    Your Scrambler looks very nice! Riding through the train looks fun haha. I would love to do a trip into Europe on my Scrambler, hopefully I'll get the opportunity to this year.

    • @markgans9248
      @markgans9248  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phil480 Thanks Phil! The more interesting stuff starts from around the 30 minute mark. The pillion handles are great. Most importantly Katie really likes them and I don’t feel them or Katie holding on at all. The only bad thing is it sits across my jacket pockets so get into the can be tricky ha ha

      C a r b o u m e n As I talk about in the vid, I’m sure those bikes are a far superior for this sort of ride. But they just look and ride a bit too generic for my personal taste. I’d prefer the Triumph Scrambler any day!

    What were you using to record audio for commentary? Sounds very clear. Did you record it while riding or is it a voice-over?

    • @markgans9248
      @markgans9248  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used the GoPro Audio adapter with a small lavalier mic stuck inside my helmet. Then tweak as best I could. Worked fairly well but there’s some sections where the audio was louder/quieter than it should have been.
