Bob, this is a truly superb set beginning to end. However, there is something about Track 2 - Paul Whiteman & His Orchestra - Just A Memory - recorded 8/19/1927 that speaks to me of the truly great musicianship that characterized much of Whiteman's work. It takes real genius to include so many great solos and the broad variety of sounds packed into just 2 mins 53 secs.
Bob, as you well know I am an immense fan of most of the sets you've placed on YT but there are elements in this one drag me back to it time and time again. Call me fickle, but after listening for umpteen times I've decided the greatest cut is #10 Abe Lyman's California Orchestra - Fleurs d'Amour - recorded 7/26/1926 . It is one that always get me toe-tapping every time I go there. Track 2 is great, but track 10 in my estimation is just superb.
Just a heads up but starting tomorrow all of my new posts will be released first on the Pax41 Music Time Machine Facebook and Pinterest pages. They will be unlisted here on TH-cam for about two weeks before I release them for viewing. I will be releasing my KPAX41 channel videos without any delay. Just wanted to give you a heads up and thank you for watching.
GOD! The Henry Lange Record DRIVES ME WILD! "I Want You More"! I Want More Henry Lange Recordings! I Love the Tuba and the way his band has the Banjo and Cymbals Play all through the Record, But one in peculiar is the way it`s played at 22:53! GEEEEEEEZE!
Yes Sadly, Like Dave Harman, He made a few for EDISON And Few is Stretching it! But can You Imagine what AWESOME Records He would have made for Brunswick! If He did make more! This Record is truly 1920s AWESOME! The Sound is just what I LOVE! By the way, My Favorite Record By Dave Harman is "We`re Out Of The Red" Recorded for Bluebird! Have You heard this SUPER Record? It is on You Tube! I Could not find the actual Record, So I put it on one of My Roy Ola 78 RPM Records!
20's music has made me a tuba lover. I just love the way they sound. That music has the happiest, most rhythmic sound and greatest bass. Of course now everything is amplified guitar but when I watch these old dance bands I want to bounce along with them - it was so important to have a good melody then and I miss that so about today's music.
00:00 [1] Nat Shilkret & The Victor Orchestra - I Want A Daddy To Cuddle Me 02:44 [2] Paul Whiteman & His Orchestra - Just A Memory 05:48 [3] George Olsen & His Music - Mona - vocal by Fran Frey 08:27 [4] Jack Denny & His Orchestra - Song Of Shanghai 11:14 [5] Ben Selvin & His Orchestra - Under The Ukulele Tree - vocal by Ben Selvin 14:06 [6] Eddie Elkins & His Orchestra - Sunny 16:49 [7] Jules Herbuveau's Palmer House Victorians - Kiss Your Little Baby Goodnight 19:48 [8] Henry Lange & His Orchestra - I Want You More 23:18 [9] Colonial Club Orchestra (Bob Haring) - This Is Heaven - vocal by Scrappy Lambert 26:36 [10] Abe Lyman's California Orchestra - Fleur d'amour
heyaaah, Bob 🙋♀️ WOW! WHAT A COMPILATION 👍 I LOVE THAT POWERFUL BEAT OF BRASS THE CROONING VIOLINS AND THE ELEGANT SOUND OF THE WOOD-BLOWERS 😍 A VERY GOOD REASON TO START INTO MY NEW DAY 💪 and to quote Scrappy Lambert: "THIS IS HEAVEN!" THANK YOU 💋 best greetings from "UKU-LILLI" 😂
Wonderful! Every selection! Thank you so much for providing very uplifting music AND those nostalgic images. I love history and am so grateful to you that I can be transported to a period where this music was blazing a trend setting trail. Sure hope that you can continue this wonderful work.
I'm loving the first track with Nat Shilkret and The Victor Orchestra. You posted this recording as a single 10 years ago. 'I Want a Daddy to Cuddle Me.' is a great way to start this set of songs. Well played sir.
. . . found the sheet music to 'Want a Daddy' and am thrilled to add it to my own performances. I like it when you show the covers of the music we are hearing.
Bob another brilliant selection I love them all, combining all the devices and unique orchestrations of the 20s... and you put them all together so well.I appreciate the time you take and meticulous research you need, to get it just right.I would place"" Daddy at number one " closely followed by Song of Shanghai which has an orchestra arrangement akin to Kurt Weills Alabama song.
I will be broadcasting 3 Live shows tomorrow. They will be at 10AM, 2PM and 5PM Central time and each will feature a different period of music. Hope you can tune in.
Just a memory has a strange Fascination for me I haven't by many people it's a wonderful tune it makes me happy and it makes me sad at the same time. Someone told me once there's a certain Arrangements of notes that can do that to you I don't know if that's true or not but it doesn't to me
I don't think it does to anybody, @roderickfernandez5382, somehow. That one comes from the idea that there are only x number of notes that are new to the ear now. The excuse for why nobody composes like they use to. And here is me thinking it's lack of musical talent!
They still wanted Daddy to cuddle them but no dishes take me out to dinner if you want to cuddle me and they don't even call it cuddle anymore it's probably some rude word but it's the same thing nothing ever changes except the dishes don't get done
Who said they don't use that word any more? They can use all the rude words they like but a cuddle is still what it says! Even if I don't get them now!
Really? Under the ukelele tree or anywhere else, FGS! This should have embarrassed you seriously, Ben.... Track 5.... But it probably didn't.. I know, that was then, of course.
Yes, a popup...they come to me like drops from heaven!
Larry you are too funny. Remind me but where do you live?
I wonder what my neighbors think when they hear me yell, "Whiteman! You're a genius!"
Foot stomping crazy!!
Well done.
Too funny that you where on this one because I was earlier today updating it. Did this pop up too?

Whiteman has always been one of my favorite bands and I couldn't agree with you more James. Hope you are doing well over there and stay in touch!

Stunning! May the vibrant music of the 20s live on forever.

love all this. Using conventional instruments at there best...

Bob I don't think he made a lot of recordings. I only show about 8 sides on various labels and one is him doing a piano solo.

I can always come to you for all my daily 1920s music needs.
Like a narcotic user, I keep coming back to this wonderful compilation. Love the tuba work on track 1. Yet another dose of musical goodness!
Maybe I should come up with some type of title that this music can have that affect on people. Thoughts?

Mark, thank you for watching the channel and glad you enjoyed this selection. Many more posts like this to come in addition to what is up already.
That Shilkret with Belle is one of the rarest Shilkrets.
I have owned this copy for about 10 years. It was one of my earliest Shilkret purchases.
Definitely lovely listening, greta musicians, singers and songs. Que demande le peuple ? :)
lovin your channel. So much fun!

A splendid group!! Many thanks, as always.
You are very welcome!
and there in the front is a young Paul Whiteman!
I'm loving the first track with Nat Shilkret and The Victor Orchestra. You posted this recording as a single 10 years ago. 'I Want a Daddy to Cuddle Me.' is a great way to start this set of songs. Well played sir.
That is a great recording for sure Rick. Glad you enjoyed this post.
. . . found the sheet music to 'Want a Daddy' and am thrilled to add it to my own performances. I like it when you show the covers of the music we are hearing.
Like the last one! I actually own the record, can't get over a girl like you, is on the other side I believe. Very good selections!
