I keep hearing so many great things about Ableton Live that I feel like I should using it as opposed to Pro Tools which is what I was taught in music school. But I'm also at a dilemma of learning another DAW.
No doubt switching DAWs can be tough! I couldn't imagine switching to a different one right now, it'd hinder so much time I could spend on working on tracks - however I could see how it could be beneficial if you think it could improve your workflow in the long run. It really is a costly investment (in terms of money and time), so I'd say if you're happy with what you're making right now stick with what you've got. If you really think down the line years from now it would have been better to switch over since you could improve your skills with Ableton, make the switch sooner rather than later. But take that with a grain of salt! Best of luck :D
Hi Johnny Parker...I've been using Pro Tools for a few years, but only sporadically, only because I am also learning how to use other plugins....such as Kontakt 5, or EZ Drummer etc., so I'm trying to learn 3 or 4 elements at a time. So in researching Kontakt for instance, I decided to see what Ableton was like in using Kontakt. When I first opened up Ableton, I was so confused by the interface set-up, that I didn't even use it. It sat on my computer for 5 years, and I just kept plugging along in Pro Tools. However, I like some of the features in Ableton as compared to Pro Tools, (I just started researching more about Ableton this week), and I may continue to try to use Ableton for putting down ideas and then importing the midi files into Pro Tools. The only thing is that I do not have as many instruments in Ableton as I do in Pro Tools, but that's just a minor issue. The other thing in comparison is that I am now familiar with the terminology, so using Ableton might not be as big of a learning curve for me. Good luck!
I avoided ABLETON for years for the same reason and oh man I wish I hadn’t! The session view is way ahead of protools and cubase and once you get your head around that, the arrangement view is easy (as its the same as what you already know). I was switched onto ABLETON through my fascination with live looping. Its easily more powerful than the best hardware loopers but it depends what your into. I can see the session view being very useful for writing and arranging. TBH I can’t see myself going back to Cubase now other than for recording bands in my studio. The exciting thing about ABLETON is....I can now see myself performing my songs using clip launching on my Macbook pro 😃

Hey, InspirAspir. Question: I've just started using Lite 10. Around 4:08 you changed the chord patterns. How did you adjust that, specifically to fifths? Are you just drawing it in to fit? I'm assuming there is a much faster way. I'm having trouble finding it in Ableton's materials. I'd greatly appreciate the help!
okay so if you turn on draw mode and put it into 4 bars (by write clicking and changing it) you can indisually put in notes like he did in the video. It seems he copy and pasted but idk how to do that
Guys guys calm down, first he obviously changed the size of the note (using the grid which you can see and mess around with pressing right click), selected it and pressed ctrl + D which duplicated said note; and he just did that several times.
Remember these words little one .... once you leave school, if you work hard enough, you can have anything you want in this world, this is YOUR reality & you can achieve all your dreams ....BELIEVE IN YOURSELF & DO NOT EVER GIVE UP ✌❤
Watched both videos, the old one and this updated version, and of all the tutorials I've seen to explain creating in Ableton, this is the best. Thank you!
Hey man, love your work. Would you ever be able to make a video that focussed purely on the production side of things/ how to use the majority of effects properly?
TNice tutorials was honestly so helpful. I’ve been working around soft, whether it be church, singing in a band, or theatre for most of my life so tNice tutorials
Why? Im scared a bit scared because my favorite artist (shinigami) uses FL. IK it's all the same if ur lookinh to make it. But RN is my starting moment because I just compleatly internalized that there's no other way than making it on my own. Fuck supermarkets
I'm getting a Minilab and Ableton comes with it. FL has been a good friend but I'm mostly excited to play around with fresh sounds, this tutorial was surprisingly easy to comprehend and it has me hyped up to dive into it
Thanks man. I do like your clear, descriptive videos - helps me (as a relative novice) cut through the techie talk on the Ableton manuals. Learnt a lot of useful stuff, that previously was confusing me. Nice one
Your video is so amazing i learned a lot of techniques in this video but Can i ask how to record midi controler's sound into ableton live 10? maybe you know....
I just moved to Ableton after 2 years with fl studio, and this really helped, like you wouldn't believe how much this helped, i pretty much learned everything from this tutorial
Got lost at 11:38 when you changed up the song. I tried to do the same and messed it all up Not that my notes looked the same anyway. Would advise not using shortcuts without saying what you're doing.
I've used FL Studio for 7 years and I must say Ableton has an awesome setup. A bit confusing at first but I'm sure I can get used to it very quickly having used FL for 7 years! Wish me luck!!
I am just starting to get into making music. I have been taking some Udemy courses on music theory in my free time over the past few months and have learned a TON. However, none of those classes go over how to make a song (which wasn't the intent of those classes of course, not bashing them at all.... they were awesome classes.). I just wanted to say that you just gave people a crash course worth a lot of credit (or money if you want to think of it that way). You gave people the creative process... that is AWESOME; and you were great at doing it. This is probably the area people struggle in a lot first starting out like myself: "okay well i know how to make cool sounding melodies... but what bpm? what is a lead? what are layers? how do I use audio effects? how do I make it sound like a song instead of just the same melodic loop? bass then drums then melody? what is the best order to make all of the components?" these are just some of the question I asked myself that you have answered. Of course it is an ART and the creative process is up to the individual, but giving someone a foundation that they can then branch from, is so important. ALL IN ALL..... I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!
@@sewerside i googled it for u. Stretch the notes. Here is a trick how to snap them to the grid. Set the grid as desired, draw one note more then you need, select them, set the mouse to stretch (right click in the midieditor, it's the last entry, i am using the german version so i'm not sure how it's called in other versions) shorten the notes and now you should have ..tuplets. Also something about turning off grid before u do it
He actually didn't put it to 1/5. He put a series of notes the length of three 1/16, but with the last note being 1/4. It is so easy in fl. In FL studio you can just draw 5 notes touching each other and then click and drag a circle while holding ALT to fit it into a bar.
Jesus thank you. I couldn't figure out how to get anything to play, it gets discouraging to fiddle with software for hours and feel like you're not getting anywhere.
LOL I’m 13 and I’ve already made my first song. It’s really hard at the beginning but after you get the basics and you start actually making music it’s really fun
I agree. I've got up to that point and was like wtf? I can't figure this out... so I tried to google it... but I don't know what to search for... I played around and got something to work but it sounds off. Using quantize puts it all in alignment, but changes the notes so there's gaps.
In case you're still wondering a year later how he did it that fast: he minimized by selecting and dragging, then used "ctrl+D" to duplicate the selected notes
I watched looong non-skippable ads all the time. Because your video is very helpful and calmly explained well. I think that's what I can do and I suggest future viewers to not skip the ads during the entire video. You did a great job *InsprAspr* . All the best good luck!! ❤💪

Guys guys calm down, first he obviously changed the size of the note (using the grid which you can see and mess around with pressing right click), selected it and pressed ctrl + D which duplicated said note; and he just did that several times.
Almost 3 years later I am still enjoying this introduction, thank you.
This is so dope! I’ve had ableton for a while now and been hesitant to use it. Thanks for the inspiration bruh!
I don’t even have ableton live and this was the most helpful music production video I’ve seen so far!
Very Impressive!! A big thank you from a nervous beginner. Your information is very helpful.

@@bunzl72 what a nice comment :)
Same im 13 but i do play instruments like drums and piano but the only thing i use for ableton is a launchpad mini mk3
Friendship ended with Fl Studio, *Now* ABLETON is my bestfriend.
Why? Im scared a bit scared because my favorite artist (shinigami) uses FL. IK it's all the same if ur lookinh to make it. But RN is my starting moment because I just compleatly internalized that there's no other way than making it on my own. Fuck supermarkets
@@MCGeddelti Ableton just _feels_ better to use...in my opinion of course
@@MCGeddelti it’s also really streamline for first time users I had no problem picking up after a couple weeks of straight fucking around with it.
@@MCGeddelti in my opinion abelton is easier to understand. It's a hell of alot cheeper tho
Nice one
Q: around 4:40 how did you change the chords to hit every 5 notes? Seemed like it is done thru hotkey :?
yes, how ?
Honestly once explained it's fairly intuitive. Thank you for breaking it down so nicely for us newbies! Can't wait to play with the full version
Your video is so amazing i learned a lot of techniques in this video but Can i ask how to record midi controler's sound into ableton live 10? maybe you know....
This is so much simpler and to-the-point than every other Ableton newbie tutorial I have seen. Thanks!
Thank you for this tutorial
I could listen to Nice tutorialm talk for hours man what a passionate dude ❤️
2:17 actually 16 bars long lol XD
actually an amazing video nice work :D
nigga what
I just moved to Ableton after 2 years with fl studio, and this really helped, like you wouldn't believe how much this helped, i pretty much learned everything from this tutorial
Got lost at 11:38 when you changed up the song. I tried to do the same and messed it all up Not that my notes looked the same anyway. Would advise not using shortcuts without saying what you're doing.
Hahaha
thanks for the help. Really liked the vid :)
I can't even imagine how can someone follow this video as a beginner.
Well, it helps to not be incredibly stupid.
@@TheBigMclargehuge Stupid is your atitude. People behind a computer show their true colors...
@@PicMus you are absolutely correct. I demonstrated that I have a mean Spirit. you demonstrated that you're not very intelligent.
@@TheBigMclargehuge ofensive = intelligent... right!
@@TheBigMclargehuge Neither are you buddy
I've used FL Studio for 7 years and I must say Ableton has an awesome setup. A bit confusing at first but I'm sure I can get used to it very quickly having used FL for 7 years! Wish me luck!!
Thank you. Your tutorial was short, and concise and I have learned a lot in a short period of time which is greatly appreciated!
hey dude, where can i find Snare_rage 2 ? 15:20
Were you able to ever find snare_rage 2?
What shortcut did you use to chop the chord? 😭😭😭
I have the same question
r/restofthefuckingowl
Help, need answer for this too
Simple. He just highlighted all if them and shortened them at the same time
Dreamingbig what the hell is that supposed to mean
Thanks bud been binge watching tutorials!! Best one yet!!
At 4:25 how do you get the chord to hit in fifths?
yea, would like to know too.. 2 months and no reply.. :(
@@sewerside i googled it for u.
Stretch the notes.
Here is a trick how to snap them to the grid.
Set the grid as desired, draw one note more then you need, select them, set the mouse to stretch (right click in the midieditor, it's the last entry, i am using the german version so i'm not sure how it's called in other versions)
shorten the notes and now you should have ..tuplets.
Also something about turning off grid before u do it
You could also make chord last a full bar and divide ur bpm by 5 and copy it
Yeah i'm also wanting to know
He actually didn't put it to 1/5. He put a series of notes the length of three 1/16, but with the last note being 1/4.
It is so easy in fl. In FL studio you can just draw 5 notes touching each other and then click and drag a circle while holding ALT to fit it into a bar.
Some people know a lot about these programs but just can’t teach it.. learned so much from this video just about music production
Jesus thank you. I couldn't figure out how to get anything to play, it gets discouraging to fiddle with software for hours and feel like you're not getting anywhere.
You,ve ran through Ableton for me to be able to understand all its different aspects of making music.best intro video .Appreciate it man
Farewell FL studio its been a nice 5 years, time to give ableton a try.
I could actual vibe to this
This seems a tad complicated for my feeble mind
You got it. Its never late to try.
My brain has exploded twice already since playing with my DAW. Its getting easier every time.
LOL I’m 13 and I’ve already made my first song. It’s really hard at the beginning but after you get the basics and you start actually making music it’s really fun
BY FAR the most useful beginner tutorial I have seen for Ableton! Thank you. :)
how'd he make it to 1/5 like tf
He put the notes in. Not really that hard. Just count the beats and place the notes where the beats fall
Each 1/5 is 3. 1/16 on a triplet grid
That was my point how did he do it he forgot we are not professionals
Finally, a good Ableton demo.
Do more this kind of tutorials......plzzz....!!!
You made me learn Ableton from scratch just with this vid. WOW
How did you change note length from 1/4 to 1/5?
Zoom in and alter the length of the note
That transition thing was clutch for me. Appreciate it.
When you just finished 6 cups of coffee
Dude i don't know why but learn things easily and quicker from you...thnx bud...keep up the good work👏
why wont the instruments work and why dont i has wavetable
Exactley
OnyxTheGamerFox you probably have live 9 not live 10. Live 10 incorporates wavetables
No it’s 10 I don t have any instrument
I couldn't find it too, so I just used different sound :)
Holy shit I don’t have any other sound that work
I watched looong non-skippable ads all the time. Because your video is very helpful and calmly explained well. I think that's what I can do and I suggest future viewers to not skip the ads during the entire video. You did a great job *InsprAspr* . All the best good luck!! ❤💪
You sound like Tyler Joseph
Best tutorial i ever seen by now. Thanks.
4:42 "while music theory is important and good to know, also the rythm is important too"
That's nonsense, 'cause both rytm and tonality IS music theory.
Exactly. He also says he is using 5th notes when he isn't.
He also says you shouldn't clip, when actually it is okay for mids and highs to clip slightly and even professional producers say you should do it.
You're blessed with the gift of Tutorialism!
you said 17 bars long, but it was 16 selected, 17 marks the end of 16 in ableton
