This trail connects three of the highest peaks of Madeira Islands, Pico Ruivo (1862 m), Pico das Torres (1851 m) and Pico do Areeiro (1817 m).
This is one of the best trails from Madeira Island. It involves tunnels, and some steep ascents and descents, with amazing views of the central core of the mountains.
Points of interest: Pico do Areeiro, Pico Ruivo, Pico das Torres, Ninho da Manta.

Great video, many thanks. Is it always obvious which way to go? Doesn’t look like it’s sign posted. Is there only one path to follow the whole way of are there side turnings that could get someone lost or take them on another hike elsewhere? Thanks.

I want to do a less ínstense hike at a little lower altitude(2,000-4,000ft) to make sure my endurance will be good before trying PR1. Do you have a recommendation for a good hike in Madeira that would be a good test or preparation for PR1?

Was it technically closed? We visited it today. Fro the viewpoint of Pico ariero. And there was a sign of the trail being closed..

When I went there it was not closed. But I know that sometimes they close it for maintenance or repairing.
