I am so excited that I found this video and your channel! :) I really resonate with what you said here about getting older and in turn becoming more interested in the practices, books, tools of your culture. I have been practicing for over two decades but I have recently started diving into the practices and imagery of my heritage and ancestors: Slavic. I'm walking away from your video with a list of decks I need to acquire. :) Thanks so much for sharing your collection and thoughts with us.
Thank you so much for bridging the gap between my greatgrand parents' heritage and my self ❤️ I am American , and my bloodline is from Hungary, Croatia, and Germany And I do understand a lot of what you're talking about ❤ I have the Slavic Legends Tarot and love it. Cantigee Oracle is amazing! one of my favorite oracles in my collection. Witch Folk Tarot looks really interesting and fun closer to how I see some things 😊
Thank you for sharing your decks and for all the inspiration. I grew up in Germany 20 kilometers near the Polish boarder. I love to visit Poland and my husband has ancestors from there. So it is nice to see some slavic inspired decks. I have several decks of Alana F.. In the beginning of my card journey I really used to like them a lot, but the deeper I got into my own path, the more I drifted away from her work. With the Mary Oracle it is ok - I sometimes use it when I need comfort or a motherly voice and I love the images and artwork as you say. Her guidebooks are often a lot of new agy talk and I prefer to just connect to the art itself. They look so much better trimmed Thank you for sharing your perspective. Greetings from Germany.
I love these types of videos because I´m a card lover and nerd... So thanks for this.😍 I love listening to you and your thoughts about decks that you own and use in your practice.❤ I recently found out that I tend to buy decks with vintage vibe, collage decks like The Relative Tarot, but most of all I´m starting to lean towards the sepia toned decks where I can see bones, skulls, herbs, old inscriptons and it really does it for me! My most used deck will always be my RWS, but I also use lenormand, I love pixie´s lenormand, love love looove Memento Mori, my Samhain Witches oracle, Hoodoo Tarot (because I´m mixed and it makes sense to me to use it), Herbcrafter´s tarot, Slavic Legends is amazing but I´m getting used to it, love old marseille styled decks and old italian vibe decks like reproducitons from Il Meneghello from Milan, bought one of his decks in Rome. ❤🔥 Recently I´m drawn to Magickal Botanical oracle. Have you started working with it?🙂
Seems like we have similar tastes 🙌 I've been using the Magickal Botanical Oracle since December and I love it. I think it's my fave plant deck so far! ❤️🔥
Great video! 🖤Interesting choices, and new discoveries for me, thank you! I am a traditional witch (roughly) but unfortunately a bit disconnected from my local culture/ references, too ecclectic. I came late in life to the practice. Some things I do are "mainstream" folk, others aren't. I agree that certain decks are better suited to our own particular practice. Like you, I adore playing card decks depicting local fauna and flora. I got lucky with one on local birds, but for the others, the closest I could find were the Heritage playing card collection decks. Curiously enough, the deck giving me the best, to-the- point, but kind readings is one deck that does not appeal me aesthetically at all: the Witches Tarot. I bought it on an impulse because I needed a Tarot deck at that particular moment and had none with me and the shop I found had a very limited choice of decks... it's flimsy cardstock that gets damaged even if you are a gentle shuffler, which I hate, but it is reliable and faithful. I love it for that. I have a very animistic approach to Tarot (and magical items) and believe that each specific deck is controlled by a specific entity or spirit. I haven't met any people who agrees with me on that, many think cards channel energies, ancestors, deities, the "universe" and that it can vary from one reading to the next. I think that each deck is connected to a singular entity. Each deck opens a door to a specific spirit. But I digress. Other decks I feel very connected too are the ones with a vintage feel. My favourite Lenormand is the Mystical Lenormand, which is a no-no for purists (understandably) , but it was my first Lenormand and I get the best readings with it. Your choice of favourite playing card decks was awesome! My favourite one is a plain second-hand deck found at a charity. It has trimmed corners because it was apparently used at a casino. It shuffles beautifully. Pre owned items are important in my practice. I think gifted and/or second-hand decks hold special energies. I don't smudge or cleanse my decks. I do a gentle physical wipe to "sanitize" them a bit and let them be as they come. Very unorthodox and icky for many, and I am not encouraging anyone to do what I do (or don't do) AT ALL. I own the Slavic Tarot and I love it. I know I am missing a lot of nuances but I am very drawn to Slavic folklore, spiritual tradition, divinities, spirits. I don't agree with Veles being the Hanged man, (I know, the roots, the tree...) the meaning of the Hanged Man conflicts with the essence of Veles, in my opinion. (although I think there is another representation of him in the same deck? Idk) I wish there was a guidebook to it. ;-)) Sorry for the long comment and many thanks for your videos: I love your approach!
Just subscribed. I am so happy to find another tarot TH-camr that agrees with me on not using "deity decks" consisting of deities the user doesn't follow. I've touched on it a few times in my videos too, but I always worry that I am coming off as too judgy to people who may view them, haha. I'm not intending to judge, it's just a personal opinion. 😊Thanks for adding a voice to that. Also, I *adore* that tiny Lenormand deck! 😍
It's a personal matter, as with anything else. I don't judge what others choose to do in their practice cause it's none of my business. I may not see the point of "working with" foreign deities from distant cultures but I also don't care if others do that. If somebody chooses to feel attacked by my personal preferences that have nothing to do with them, that is also none of my business 😂 If you're not judging others then there's no need to worry about coming off as judgemental. We have no control over how people will react to what we share - all we can do is make sure we're fair 😊💞
Throughly enjoyed every moment of this video. Loved your deck selections and took particular joy in the mushroom deck. 🍄 Insightful presentation and enjoyed learning about the connections to your ancestry. Thank you for the inspiration. 🌟🧡🌟
I thoroughly enjoyed this video and use really similar decks in my practice as well! I’m really inspired to do a VR and will for sure do one when I’m able to film again! ♥️
Thank you so much for sharing your stories and tools that you use to ignite your folk witchcraft practice! I loved all of the polish playing card deck! Especially the mushroom 🍄🤩🖤❤️🤍 I am looking forward to responding to this! Also, I will be finally creating a VR to your trad witch tag!
Great selection of decks. The really tiny Lenormand deck you printed is The New York Lenormand by Robert M. Place. I've got a slighter bigger in color version of the deck myself. With comes in two versions. It teads like a charm. I love my Pagan Otherworld playing cards deck. UUSI's decks are always amazing. I'm a lover of pip style decks. Tarot de Marseille (classical en modern version) is close to my heart and feels familiar. I'm have French decent so that might be while Marseille and similar style decks have my preference. My favorites being Trionfi Della luna and Tarot Des Ambigvites by Artisan Tarot.
Ooo, thanks so much for info about the lenormand deck! I didn't know how to search for it tbh 😅 You know what, I had a Marseille deck with me to show but for some reason it got lost amongst the other decks and I never showed it😆
@@polishfolkwitch No problem. Robert M. Place is a great deck creator. I got 2 of his other tarot decks as well. Their all pretty good and quite interesting. Haha. I've had that happen too me several time as well. 😂
Love your playing card decks! I’ve been thinking a lot lately about trying Lenormand. And the ‘Cringy’ deck 😂 I saw that years ago, and LOVED it, I don’t know why, it just spoke to me, but I couldn’t afford it. Also: I preordered the Spring Femme Occulte! 😊
Ooo, thanks for supporting Femme Occulte 🥰 Haha, the "cringy" deck is dirt cheap over here, especially when scored used (people sell it second hand a lot for some reason - I think I got mine for like $5 a few years ago). Is it expensive where you live? If so, totally not worth it cause the quality is rather poor. Hey, maybe this is a nudge for you to try Lenormand 🤓
@@polishfolkwitch it was definitely expensive when I was looking at it a few years ago, not sure what it sells for now. For some reason, it’s so evocative of childhood for me, like when I was really little, some of my nightmares and perspectives. I don’t know why!
@@SecondThoughtsAboutTheMission Oh wow, that sounds like you have a special thing going on with the artwork in that deck. Maybe it's worth a shot after all :)
I'm afraid you can't get it anymore. They're a Polish clothing brand and they carry these playing card decks as seasonal limited editions. This one is from a few years back.
I just started watching and I am in love with your Polish playing card decks that are literally field guides! ETA: I did the same thing to my Mother Mary Oracle for the same reasons. I've had that Witch Folk Tarot on my radar and hope they reprint it. You have me seriously considering the Cantigee Oracle. Thank you for another amazing vid. I think I am going to have to make a VR! xoxo
Thank youuuu! 🥰 Ikr, these field guide decks are my absolute faves. Seriously, don't get the Witch Folk unless they sort their shit out because current quality is ridiculous 😆 Would absolutely love to see a VR from you! 😍
