Wonderful to see the great Corelli in this scene. He is in wonderful voice even if a little more subtlety at the end would have been beautiful. Ligabue sounds lovely. She should have been much more famous than she was, since she sounds so much like Mirella Freni.
Wonderful !!! I'm not sure whether Ilva Ligabue was the most technically accurate singer and thus made few studio recordings . I have been a fan since attending a live performance of La Forza Del Destino in Firenze 1966? Ilva Ligabue was performing with Franco Corelli . I thought her stunningly beautiful and love the sound of her voice . This final Aida scene performed by both is magical !
Ela fez a Desdemona em 1969 no Teatro Municipal de São Paulo ao lado de Del Mônaco no Othello. Assiti também a Gioconda de Ponchielli que foi a melhor. Ótimo elenco, cenário , guarda roupa e corpo de baile, não esquecendo a flutuante Rita Romanelli.
Che novità è questa ??? mi trova d'accordo con il suo commento...credo si sia documentato meglio...se ascolta tutte le grandi voci del secolo scorso,emettono le note tutte allo stesso modo,naturalmente con la propria voce,a partire da Caruso ,martinelli,merli,pertile,gigli,masini,del monaco,fleta,tucker,bergonzi,anche se quest'ultimo ha perduto gli acuti dopo pochi anni,e tanti altri...nel recente credo solo Bonisolli e a tratti Giacomini siano riusciti ad avere questa emissione perfetta...saluti

While reading up on opera lately, archived newspaper articles, I came across a rather funny factoid: Corelli was a superstitious and high-strung boy. His pre-performance routine was to eat a meal of steak tartar (raw ground prime cut) heavily laced with garlic. The garlic was to kill any lurking parasites. So, now when I watch a clip of him singing directly into the face of his lover, I feel sorry for her. LOL I hope she quickly learned to eat garlic too. The tomb scene always gets me, and the judgment scene. Mil gracias por compartir.

The article could have done more justice to Mr. Corelli's legacy. It painted him as some freak. Yet, I am unaware of anyone who came close to him. Even Pararotti's voice sounds minuscule and dull in comparison.

Invito i fanatici della tecnica ad ascoltare come Corelli canta la O di "t'aveva il cielo per l'amOr creata" tutta completamente sfogata fuori come i vecchi cantanti in bianco e nero. Oggi(come anche molti di ieri) la maggior parte chiudono e ingolano la vocale facendo passare questa schifezza per suono girato o coperto che invece non c'entra niente con la vera rotondità di un suono sostenuto si ma a gola libera. E sappiate che la maggior parte degli insegnanti che strapagate insegnano quella schifezza li che inoltre vi spacca la gola.
Col risultato che l'amor risulta...amar.Corelli aveva da tempo abbandonato il suono "coperto" con l'avanzare degli anni e di questo si lagnava perchè sapeva che il declino vocale si sarebbe accentuato anzitempo.Non sono chiacchiere da bar,ma me lo disse lo stesso Corelli tanti anni fa a Milano quando passai 3 ore indimenticabili con lui e la mia agente dell'epoca(Gianna Galli,soprano di Modena che alla fine della carriera artistica si occupava delle carriere di altri cantanti lirici,quali Giacomini,Casolla,Fisichella,ecc).Infatti insegnava ai giovani a non "aprire" i suoni,ma a "coprirli" in modo giusto proprio per preservare la voce.Poi,è logico che se non lo si fa bene...ci si ingolfa.
