We all have times in our lives when problems wear us down and make us question whether it is worth it or not. Positivity is the stepping stone to getting your life back on track.
Appreciating what we have and not fretting about what we lost is a key to contentment. If we have clean water to drink, something to eat and can sleep in safety, that's plenty.
I'm 66 - i've lost 3 houses in my life - cheated out of them basically , I'm renting an old shack now too - I'm OK - But i was also burgled over £100,000 of posh possessions as well as being stolen from my whole life long .
You beat me, I only lost two houses, and am now renting a little terraced house. What the hey! I made bad decisions, I can either cry or live with it. I’ve got hardly any possessions but loads of stories.
Many of us need to realise that often other people try to impress us with money, careers, perfect partners etc. and often we fall for it. But actually if we would really compare the expensive life with the slow life full of conscious choices to settle for less (less-paid job but in the countryside, not a top-model partner but a loyal one etc.), we would see that people who choose to live with less are more impressive. I can imagine that often people looked at Nigel and his struggles and shook their heads over how he was "losing" at life but if they got to talk to him today and hear him say "I love life, I am at peace, I had a fabulous time in this world" they would be actually jealous over how happy he can be while they can't because they only pursued joys and not the true happiness in life all along. Don't allow yourself to feel like your life is bad because you can't be a CEO of an oil concern and fly to Senegal for 3-weeks top luxury holidays. If you are happy in your heart, you can be extremely happy living with your parents at the age of 40, with no car and no university degree. But if you are sick and sad at heart, holidays in Senegal won't make you happy.
Thank you for those kind words. I often quote an old employer of mine who said. “I have a friend who is successful because he has several cars and a large house.” I said. “I’m successful because I’m happy.”
If you went tomorrow we would alĺ miss our daily fix ( kick up the pants ). Sometimes we have to be reminded that there is so much beauty in the world . Its so easy to get bogged down in all the negatively . Thanks for the awakening
I think we need bad times to truely appreciate the good times. In the depths of depression it's almost impossible to see the light but your story will help so many realise that tomorrow is another day and happiness can be found in the simplest of things. Thanks so much for sharing Nigel, hope you have many good years ahead of you.
You talk a lot of sense my friend. We are the same age, I’ve had good times and bad times as most people have, it’s what you yourself bring to those times as to how you come out of it. Today I got up and was dancing in the bathroom singing, no reason, but why be miserable about things from the past when the sun is shining and it’s a brand new day. I’m off out for a walk, on my own because my dog is very ill and hasn’t long left, a tootle round the garden is all she can manage, but I count myself lucky to have had her for nearly 13 years. Peace and love, I hope the sun is shining on you today, and if not, I know it’s shining in your heart ❤️
The sun is indeed shining today. I’m sorry to hear about your dog. They don’t live anywhere near long enough. I quite often find myself smiling for no particular reason. 😊
That's a lovely comment. I'm sorry about your doggie, but thirteen years together is a blessing. Plus you never know, she might come back to you in her next life.
Don't live in anxiety about the future and don't get bitter about the past. Like you said Nigel, one task at a time, we're all in this together. Negative thinking is a killer. You're an inspiration Nigel - Thanks.
My story is similar to yours Nigel. Ups and downs of life till my age now of nearly 68, on my own but with 2 gorgeous children and grandchildren. I have very little but am very happy and enjoy helping others. The Earth is an amazing place and I feel blessed that I am able to enjoy it. Sorry to hear about your health but positivity does help 🥰😘🤗.
Glad your video popped up. Yep sometimes life brings us, well, all sorts of challenges, even in moments of deep pain, I knew I would come back up, and even in those moments, I could still see the beauty even if I wasn't feeling it, I knew I would be feeling it again. Wow, there are lovely people everywhere to share with. There is beauty all around, if we have the inner sense of beauty.
Another great and very thought provoking walk with you and Molly. When we are going through hard times and stressful periods we tend to think that we are the only ones experiencing those things, but, most people have been through those same things at some point and even if they cannot solve your problems, just sharing them with others who have been there too is a great comfort. My Gran, who lived till she was 100, despite almost dying in the Spanish flu epidemic in the early 1900’s, getting gangrene in her leg, having cancer twice and a hysterectomy, used to tell me to just get up each day and face it as a brand new chance to solve the problems I was having in life. Her favourite saying was ‘this too will pass’, and she was right, it does.
Your granny sounds like the total opposite of mine. My granny had been telling us for good three decades that she won't live until Christmas. She lived to be 86, but spent most of that time in misery. She could never get over the things that happened in the past.
@@MollyDaniels-nu6lx Absolutely not. I love my life and I love to laugh, usually at myself 😁. I always felt sorry for my granny because of her attitude. She had children and grandchildren that adored her but she focused on the negatives. That's not a way to live.
Thank you for sharing with us your life story, Nigel. This is how we can strengthen ourselves by telling our story, where each time it becomes less hurtful, less of a burden on our mind, then one day we wake up and look at 'today'. Then our mind set changes, and values change, begin to look forward, and rely on ourselves not others. I truly believe your upbring and the family love you had growing up, helps you now. That's how I see it for me. Those that didn't have a good, or loving support growing up are the ones really lost and need our support. You are a good Samaritan , helping those who need love in their lives! Peace I give you Nigel, and sending you love ❤
Thanks for telling your lifestory Nigel, it helps to remind me i have to keep looking on the bright side of live.... 2 years ago i ended up in the hospital, nearly had a nervous breakdown, i´m still recovering, with ups and downs, but that´s oke.... Much love, 🙂 🌳 🦋 Conny...
I do it a step at a time, enjoying the little things nature is giving us, the sun on my back, the wind in my ears, a soggy sandwich and a breath of wet earth in a hiking shelter! Love yourself!❤
I admire your strength and your positivity 👍. You managed to survive many problems and here you are: full of life, happy, content and grateful. I love it and I enjoy listening to your wisdom 😊. You understand what life is about. May you and Molly have many beautiful years together, you deserve it ❤
So funny, Anita. The comment before yours was a young man on another video worrying about his life and debt, and hoping for a way through. I tried to reassure him and linked to this very video. I hope it helps him realise there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.
You are a light worker, shining your beautiful light into the darkness ❤ As the Beatles sang, all you need is love. Love comes from within beautiful souls. ❤❤
I hope that your thoughts on positivity help some of your viewers. As you know, I'm older than you and very happy in spite of everything that life has thrown at me through the years. Thinking positive is what does it. There are people I know who were in reasonable health when they were struck with Covid followed by complications and are now in wheelchairs with caregivers; there are young people who have had to fight in this war-torn world and have gone from being carefree, young and active to being amputees; the list goes on. I pray that these people can find happiness in spite of everything. I just feel blessed that I can still get out, move around, have somewhere to live, something to eat and plenty of water to drink.
Thank you for the story. It can be easy to get negative in rough times... I ended up leaving my job to do caregiving for family members having a rough time. Though caregiving can be rough and isolating, we're all still on this side of the dirt, and there's a huge amount to be thankful for. Reminders are always good!
Everyone has a story, thank you for sharing yours in the effort to help others. Life can be cruel and also fabulous. Life is a roller coaster that’s for sure. Love to you & little Molly 🥰
Thank you for a beautiful walk. You are so right about valuing the small things. When my son passed away in late November, I was so sad. Then I started remembering little stories in my head about him. Now I try to write a story a day….then when I get sad, I can read those stories and feel close to him. This helps me…maybe it will help someone else who loses a loved one. Peace and love.
Well I just love you and Molly and your videos 💓💓💓 I've been through some major physiological sh ........t for years ...in my 70's ....I made it and am major proud ...faith and positive thoughts and hard work on myself .....not afraid anymore 🌹💜🌹💜
Money is my biggest stressor, working at being debt free and getting close………… by the by but I believe the word disease when broken down is dis - ease and when you at at dis - ease in life it turns to disease, we don’t listen to ourselves and get caught in a rat race we think we have to keep up with…….. keep up with sharing your story it’s amazing much love light and positivity ❤
I realised it was your dad, but thought you didn't want everyone knowing! 😂 I think you have some great points of view which people appreciate as it's different from the mainstream but resonates with many.
When I face tribulations.. I turn to Marcus Aurelius and his MEDITATIONS and I understand IF it's out of my control there's not much I can do about it.... So my stoic self kicks in.....
Another Marcus Aurelius reference. Funnily enough, I think Stoicism is playing a larger part in people’s lives in these troubled times. I blame the Romans.
You are so right ,most of us are so busy worrying about how to get what we dont need, that we miss the beauty right in front of us. Take care of yourself ,there is live yet to be lived
Could you do a video about Molly. She is so sweet and I'd like to know how you came by her and whatever else you want to tell us. And let us see more of her. Thanks. Enjoy your videos. I'm 84 years old and lived in England for 14 years and enjoy seeing the English countryside and listening to your positive chatter.
@@primalengland Thank you, I look forward to it. I have also been through my trials and tribulations just like everyone else, including being as close to death as anyone gets from spinal meningitis. Always focusing on gratitude, finding the smallest things to be grateful for kept me going. I was born at the beginning of WW 2 so learned to live simply and creativity. Focusing on art and crafts during the most difficult times of my life is what saved my sanity. Thank you so much for sharing so much of your life and how you survived it all with a great attitude. Take care.
Your words touched my heart and soul. I often meet people who have completely lost their connection to the natural world, and I want to cry for them. The way you express how you feel towards the natural beauty all around you, and the love you carry in your heart, for your sweet dog, is priceless. I have just been inspired again (for the second time today!) to get a hobby! Thank-you.✌❤Be well. See you on the flip! I love that.😻
It's funny that I'm a musician too and have a cat named Molli (which means minor chord in Finnish). Our favorite thing to do is walk around in the forests. Slow living ♥
Lovely video, thank you, so much sense. The reason I adopted an older dog, he's 9, is because I don't come from a long lived family. Everyone thinks I'm being morbid, I just think I am being practical.
Yes, you are. At 70, I’ve outlived all the other males for the last few generations. If I’m still around when Molly’s gone, I may get a senior because there’s no chance I’ll outlive a pup. 🐶
Another reason I adopted a senior dog is that most people won’t. I feel like I make her last days happy, and that feels good for both of us. I have a younger dog, too, that no one would adopt..I wouldn’t take a million dollars for either of them. ❤
That’s what you call a rich tapestry of a life Nigel! I’ve no doubt the positive attitude is why you defied the doctors’s prognosis. Our state of mind can definitely make or break us - that’s just my humble opinion of course. I’ve had a pretty chequered life too but looking back, it was all an adventure that lead me to where I am now, perfectly happy and at peace with the eventual end, whenever that may be. It took me most of my life to get to this way of being but it sounds as if you were blessed with your positive outlook from a young age. Well, better late than never in my case! 🤪 I am grateful for absolutely every moment and every little thing, from the way light falls on the landscape to hearing beautiful music, and everything in between. Thanks for sharing your story, I expect it will inspire lots of people to find the positives that are always there if we care to look. Peace and love! 😍
You are dead right Nigel. When I get a bit negative I think if my dear friend Julie who died aged 32, she'd love to have the silly little problems I have and be able to see her sons grow up, as I have done.
Nigel you're an inspiration luv. Your outlook on life is where I want to be evenly. I'm moving closer towards it daily. You're an incredible gentleman. I really appreciate your videos and messages. Thank you so much for being you xx❤️🙏
It's a shame we don't stop to smell the roses until we retire. We see more...pay attention more...enjoy more...only when we retire. I like to listen to you. I know you're right. I think the same way. I wish I could more to help Jamie...but he has the support of his family and fans. He will do fine soon.just will take awhile. That's normal
After hearing your story, I especially hope to see you continue being able to live the life that makes you so happy for many years to come. Even though I live a simple life and enjoy nature daily, your videos are pretty special and are a great addition to my life. I am grateful. Thank you.
What a wonderful attitude you have Nigel ; its so inspiring. That first little step of appreciating the tiny little things , is great advice. That little molly is always a pleasure to see..... she appreciates every day also.
Great video, thank you. I've done the 'years curled up in a ball' - no fun, but it passed. I don't know where I heard it but the 'one in the bank' method worked for me. It goes 'Decide your criteria for being happy (mine was 'roof over my head, not much physical pain') and every time you experience that, bank that moment., Just one moment is enough. I began to do that, and slowly realised that a lot of the time, I'm genuinely happy. I just had to notice it.
There was a nice fella who had a TH-cam channel, Dr Dan, who passed away from cancer a month or so ago. He wanted to write a book, 'The cool thing about cancer'. His outlook was like yours. He saw life in its purest, most beautiful form. He wasn't bothered about all the petty nonsense that we worry about. He loved the beauty of life, like you do, and it was the greatest of life lessons. Not easy to follow, but when I feel down I think of him. Think of the reasons why life is amazing and why I'm so lucky with all the important things in life and how the rest of my worries are pointless. Anyway, you sound a bit like him. A real tonic. Thanks for the videos.
And here you are, enjoying life. I hope you'll have a great, slow birthday with Molly 🌞 "just" face the problem then life will get better. I decided in 1992: no more loans and debt - I have had rented flats since then. Life is sure not bad without debts and living in rented flats 😊
Morning and kia ora from NZ, I too came from a family of academics I spent 2 wks at UNI and quickly realised I wasn't going to conform to the bull ahead of me so chose a more headonest lifestyle, I loved and lost but life has been good and can't complain.
Thank you for sharing your openness and authenticity of your self. Not only as a fellow Lancashire person no longer in the area am I drawn to your accent and the scenery I find it refreshing to see and hear authentic videos. See you on the " flip"
Nigel, how can you live on a boat and think you have "nothing?" ❤ Living on a boat would be awesome! I, too, am 70, and my own story is toooooo long. Cheers! 🍻
'My life has been a catalogue of disasters and bad decisions,' he mentioned as he studied his footing. He continued a few more strides and paused to acquaint himself with his surroundings. Just off to the side of the main route, there is a wee path that leads up a few feet to a tree stump. It is so large it could be both a table and a seat! Thanks in advance if you, Nigel, would walk us over to that spot again! PS. The trunk I mean is in the vid from 6:05 minutes to 6:13 minutes.
😂😂 I’m also terminally clumsy. If I touch it, I break it! 😁 Right….. I’m going to film something in the next couple of days that is a bit special. I didn’t know where to film it, but just for you I’m going to film it at that stump. 😁
@@primalengland Hey, I trust you'll find the one I meant and take a wee seat there with a thermos and snack - - - along your walk. And 'terminally clumsy?! Hope you make it! hugs
How valuable are the lessons we learn when we mess up in life, when we get to learn something about ourself we want an easy life yet how often do we get in our own way and make things more difficult than they need to be by trying to control things we dont have any real control of in the first place ,attitude plays such an important role in how we respond when sometimes we just need to let it be. We get it right and in equal measure get it wrong,I loved listening to your story thank you for sharing xx
I’m always a little disappointed when I hear…see u on the flip. 😂. You’ve encouraged me to write out my own story….for myself. To see all in my life…past and present….to be grateful for. (Many seriously difficult….but made it through). And I’m happy. 💖💖💖
I had an art teacher about 30 years ago. He wasn’t my favorite but he was just OK. He used to always say, “peace, love and parakeets”. Mr. Gatto was probably in his 50’s at the time and he kicked my friend out of high school for bringing a WalkMan to class. My friend and I kept in touch, we got married, had a child, got a divorce and about 10 years ago, my ex told me through our son, that he was murdered in a home invasion robbery in his home in Los Angeles. You remind me of his quote every time you say “peace and love”. 🕊❤
@@marylynch951 it didn’t hurt me or bother me, I wasn’t close to my teacher. I am not friends with my ex either. I just don’t see him. They are just far memories that don’t bother me.
I had teachers that I liked, disliked and was indifferent to. I always tried to remember that they had families, too, even though it was difficult to believe at the time. 😊
Thanks for sharing your story Nigel, such a lesson there in the twists and turns in this life journey we are all on and how eventually you have freedom in owning less and being debt free. I had guessed on your previous post that you were talking about your lovely dad who was taken early from this life . Blessings to you and adorable Molly 🥰
Hello...you sent me the link to see this video. Thanks. Definitely as we age, most people realize that being materialistic is not the root of being content. I do not to come to term with myself, with my past failures and bad decisions, in order to be free of the burden of self condenmation and self rejecting. As I listen to a brief glimpse of your life, I see in you a sort of peace and bliss that only can come from wiithin. Pardon my intrusion and inquisitiveness, Do you have any children and grandchildren? Is your outlook of life based on the aceptance of the inevitable or wisdom from above? Did your choose your current state of being or is your current reality the consecuence of wrong choices? I deal a lot with regrets in my life and it seems that I can't skake off those feelings. Thanks for sharing, God bless you
I have two children and two grandchildren. Fortunately they are all well and both my children have been successful in their careers. My path was chosen at an early age when I turned my back on college to work in the English Forestry Commission. This was a comfortable course, but a couple of disastrous decisions led to me losing two houses. I am lucky to be pathological optimistic, so although it really did set me on a path of frugality, I always managed to look at life in a positive light. I can’t help my peacefulness and contentment, it’s just something I have no control over. I don’t think I could change if I tried.
Mister you are so much what I need here on Facebook! I find it so hard to find other optimistic, cheerful people! I understand your world, esp the limited life, limited diet! (what are you allowed to eat?) Haha, thank you so much for your videos! I hope this helps add to Molly's dog food bills!! ♥
Thank you. You are very kind. Because of cancer I can basically eat rice, fish and chicken. I can eat a bit of pasta, but nothing fibrous like red meat (which I don’t eat anyway) many fruits and vegetables are also off the menu. I’m ok. I get by happily enough. 😊
@@primalengland I have Crohn's disease and it means a whole bunch of munch is a NO! Dairy, legumes, nuts, cruciferous veggies and a few others. It keeps you on your toes! ^_^
@@childlikejoy Legumes and nuts are a big no no for me, too. Mine isn’t as serious as Crohn’s, more of an inconvenience. If I eat the wrong thing I’m in terrible pain and confined to the house for a couple of days, but I know I will eventually get through it.
Oh, dear! My Mom was diagnosed with Crohn's in 83. It was heartwrenching and I learned to cook and help clean early! They gave her 5-13 years at most and she was scheduled for an artificial colon exit, which she jumped from Last Minute! Much later she told me she was glad the window in hospital could only open a crack! Today she is fit and active in her 80ies! She always thought her illness was dormant, but last year they convinced her a colonoscopy was needed and were surprised that she claimed to have Crohn's - didn't find evidence! Just telling you, there might be better times coming! In my mum's case she had to meet many expectations: full teachers' job, sewing all kids' clothes, precooking for the babysitter, being a good daughter. I guess letting go of presumed responsibilities and wholesome food saved her. Against medical advice we turned to whole foods and she let go of having a perfect house. I hope you will find the way that ist best for you!🪷
@@s.kurzeck3020 The BEST thing in the world would be to find out they made a mistake and it's not Crohn's it's just... digestive issues or something! I would love love LOVE to be wrong here! But it is amazing what healthy eating can do and I'll stick with it best I can if for no other reason than all the energy it gives me! ^_^
I’ve been delaying calling an old friend to talk about his message he sent months ago about a mutual friend that passed 2 years ago. I don’t know how to respond, I feel paralyzed from the shock. I’m going to call him now. ☮️💟
I’ve reached a point in my life when all my friends are gone. There’s just me. The last one, my closest friend since we were kids, moved to Bali and drank himself to death a few months ago. It comes as no surprise, now. My friends are gone, and now the people on the edge of my friend group are going. And then I’ll go. Death and taxes. If someone tells you that a mutual friend has gone, don’t procrastinate. You want someone to still be there to answer that call.
@@primalengland Good morning, I am sad that so many people have died since I survived my first brain surgery, that I am wondering why I have survived five tumor operations over the last 15 years. My daughter is going to university in the fall and I have not completed my resolution of being able to stand so I can interact with son that has a genetic disorder and gets his kicks from trying to make a mess of whatever I have in front of me. I used to be very patient, he’s drained that reserve before I lost my ability in my right leg. I’m not religious, I do believe in the New Testament parts that encourage us to be kind to people, love Monty Python, Douglas Adams, and The Who. I’ve spent all day typing this and editing this; so I’ll end it with a cheers to you and your pup, enjoy your walk, and then see if you can find season 4 episode 4 of the Twilight Zone. I might move to Toronto soon, had a great time there on my honeymoon. I found a street that is same as my last name. :)
Amazing video! I know you don’t want sympathy but you have been dealt a shit hand love. But that’s probably why you can make such meaningful thought provoking videos and you say you have nothing but i think you are rich in your soul. Material wealth is just unimportant. Yes i will think positively like you my dear friend. Thankyou Peace and Love ❤️
When you get a divorce though at least here in America, you have the option to buy out the house. That means you have an option to buy her out and you keep the house and she moves out or She does the buyout on you and you move out or you sell it and you split the proceeds 50-50.
It’s pretty much the same here, unless kids are involved, then it’s pretty much a given that the mum keeps the family home until the kids are 18. I managed to put down a deposit on a second house because I was left some money during the divorce. My kids were very young, so it was years until the youngest reached 18. By then we had moved on. She eventually sold the house and gave me a small amount. I had another house, which I lost in a very stupid and complicated divorce, I was happy with that. I wanted her to be able to buy her own place without a huge mortgage. We are civil enough now, and I know we would both be devastated if something happened to the other. She was the best mother I could ever wish for my kids.
Nigel thank you so very much for your truly inspirational heart warming video. I just really hope you know and realise how wonderful your talks are and how your faithful viewers cherish them. Spoken from the bottom of your heart to all of us. I lost my house to a bank when my husband died four years ago and I was left to manage them, dismantling 52 years of marriage property and contents to live in a small flat. It is comfortable and safe and I have the tenancy of it for life. I know how very lucky I am. I practice gratitude every single day and I am truly thankful. I live alone but have the support of three fine sons. I too have had my fair share of desperate money worries and struggles. Only today I was looking at my bed in a tiny room and for a very brief moment thought of all the many other much larger and luxuriously fitted bedrooms I owned in the past. It was only a brief moment then with real gratitude I realised it was my bed, it is clean and the bedding is always fresh, am safe there, I look out onto green grassy fields surrounded by beautiful trees and I hear birds and lovely trains in the distance. I am cosy and safe and have enough money. What more could a person want or need? I am truly grateful. I realise no matter how hard the trials, worries and troubles are we all have them at different times of our lives. Living as we do in this free country and having, for the most part, the ability to overcome hard times eventually, there are at least 100,000 people in other parts of the world who would willingly swop places with us today. You’ve had your birthday! I was waiting for you to tell us when - so now wishing you a belated very Happy Birthday. Lovely to see Miss Molly too! Please keep talking to us - we need you.
I have two kids and two grandkids. I have a son and a daughter, both in their late 30s. My grandchildren are both boys. The eldest is just coming up to 16. I don’t see them very often. My daughter is a daddy’s girl, so we are in contact a lot. I hardly see my son, but he knows I love him and he just gets on with his busy life. I’m actually seeing both of them on Sunday.

Thank you so much. 😊

Those are such moving, poetic words. Thank you.
Your gran sounds like an awesome, wise woman, bless her. ❤️
Your granny sounds like the total opposite of mine. My granny had been telling us for good three decades that she won't live until Christmas. She lived to be 86, but spent most of that time in misery. She could never get over the things that happened in the past.
@@theclumsyprepper
That’s so sad, to waste precious time that she could have spent enjoying her life. Hopefully you haven’t followed her example 😊😊
@@MollyDaniels-nu6lx Absolutely not. I love my life and I love to laugh, usually at myself 😁.
I always felt sorry for my granny because of her attitude. She had children and grandchildren that adored her but she focused on the negatives. That's not a way to live.
My gran said " don't borrow worry from the future " 😊
That is so true…… I’m stealing that. 😁❤️

I was actually saying to someone yesterday, Ruth, that it’s a privilege to reach older age. Many people don’t reach adulthood.
Wise words, thank you for sharing
Thank you for the story. It can be easy to get negative in rough times... I ended up leaving my job to do caregiving for family members having a rough time. Though caregiving can be rough and isolating, we're all still on this side of the dirt, and there's a huge amount to be thankful for. Reminders are always good!

You know true happiness when you finally experience it. 👍😊

Wonderful.

@@primalengland thanks for your detailed reply. i wondered did you live alone since the 2 marriages, and how did that affect the relationship and ability to see and have influence with your kids? am at a difficult stage in my own journey with this. Loving your lancastrian vibes, even though I'm half Yorkshire!
There is primary & secondary debt dont pay them anything, tell them to sod off.
