ATTN: Many of the modular and prefab home companies in the U.S. and Canada have changed their busines model to a sole focus on multi-unit developer deals. While it might make good business sense for them, it eliminates a single home purchase opportunity for the working-class little guy. I have contacted more than a dozen, and, sadly enough, their responses were the same.
Love, love, LOVE the separated bedrooms. It's not just for intergenerational families. I work 12-hour nights and my son works 12-hour days. We each tiptoe around trying not to wake the other when I'm off work bc I don't flip to days unless I have an appt or other obligation. This layout would free us to move about without stressing over waking the other up.
Hi Kerry! I really dig the idea of picking out which floor plan works for you. Designing your own home. How nice!! Looking forward to seeing more. ❤️💜💚
Thanks for posting this. It's a terrific opening salvo/template for where the prefab space should be heading. They look great and offer enough variety and flexibility for most people. The next step of course, is bringing the pricing within range for those of us with more modest incomes. As they don't list pricing on the website, I'll assume it is prohibitive to those of moderate income but should eventually accommodate us once enough interest bubbles up. Nice work.
i LOVE the two bigger ones. and that they do custom design. Another extraordinary find. Looking forward to updates on these. I like a bathroom being near the entry...if you are dirty , you can clean up before dirty up the rest of the home. 😊
Thank you! Were they unwilling to work with you to give sample pricing for these designs in some selected location? I mean your show gives them great exposure, so they should be willing to put some elbow grease into it and give you some unique content... like sample pricing.
Love the feeling and designs of Opal Shelter-from the 600 sq ft Model E with the lovely overhang, to both of the Model A options. Personally, IDK which one I like more-the 600, 1000, & 2000 sq ft options are all great. Another new company in the Luxury Prefab ADU space I probably wouldn’t have heard about without your channel and due diligence! Thanks again, Sir. You have yet to disappoint. 🙌🙌🙌
Live the”village” concept. Largest unit for my studio and separate unit for living, bedroom. Reminds me of the Haystack School in the coast of Maine; studios which are built on the rocky hillside overlooking the Atlantic. Roll your equipment or whatever onto the deck of the studio in good weather. Been imagining this studio for decades. Opal has the Haystack “look.” Live your channel! Excited more companies popping up on East Coast; shipping from West or Mountain sections sounds beyond the moon! Thanks
Great video Kenny . Thank you for bringing these homes to us.this All of the prefab companies you present build very nice modern homes, their pricing is bananas. Unaffordable to those of us under $250k year.
I like the different modules, the designs. However, considering there are three "companies" involved in the process, plus the costs of having a contractor do the finish work, and site prep work, the pricing will be on the higher end, most likely above what I consider affordable. When a company doesn't post examples of pricing I expect it's costly.. Also, if you are wanting to build in a remote location getting a contractor to finish could be an issue. Thanks for the information. Happy Holidays everyone!
Thanks, Kerry, I enjoy your channel. I like the idea of modules that can be fitted together. Someone noted on your last video that the plus side of this is being able to expand later on as your budget allows and I agree. I wonder, though, where the water heater, furnace, AC and washer and dryer go.
Hey Merry Christmas! Amazon and Ali Baba offer prefab at extremely attractive prices. Amazon has a $9,000 unit that is really beautiful. Ships for $300. Could you present the pros and cons of this option?
I agree Kerry. Without being swapped by all of us but is there a way to contact you and I mean just you , not just someone who impersonates you because it’s important for privacy but there should be a way to reach you to leave a message at least where you have your own choice if wanting to answer back ! Love your Vids. Just be nice to say something privately ! Kinda like a neutral site so you have options without giving away your privacy ! Thanks Craig
Just who are these people who don't like listening to your voice and its mellifluous and melodious tones, like hearing an angel, I tell ya, an angel. Seriously, I think what you say is pact solid with good information broken with humorous jest every now and then to keep things likely. You don't speak to slowly (listen to a Ken Burn's special to hear someone drag out their comments), nor too fast that we miss things. I think you do a great job and you send those whiners my way. Might lower your numbers a bit, but you won't hear from them again, promise. No one will. 😝😜
Hey Kerry. I've been following your channel closely for the last year or so and I appreciate your weekly updates. Opal has some of the best designs you've featured. I'm in the market for 3 prefab/modular structures for my property in Santa Cruz, California. I've contacted many of the companies you've featured including Opal. I received an email back from the team at Opal Architecture. According to them, they are only servicing New England and New York. Hopefully this will everyone time if they are looking for a solution outside of the New England and New York markets.
Another great video showing something I have never seen before. Thanks for all the great videos you have posted this year and have a very merry Christmas🍻
Awesome concept. Just the flexibility to add as a family gets bigger is a unique niche in the marketplace from everything I've seen. I'm relatively new to your channel but I have learned so much, or I hope I have, in a short amount of time. I do have a question, have you done any videos or reviews of the modular homes that Home Depot is selling? They have one with a full roof top deck, but it is a little smaller than I was hoping for. Look forward to any reply you might have.
Hi Kerry, thx for your efforts to bring us this info, I also would love to see MORE visuals of the layouts , materials and houses available , while you dub the audio over that. Thx again for your channel
I like the looks and the flexibility. The problem in my area would be getting a contractor---ever since Covid, our real estate market has gone nuts and all the contractors are busy renovating homes for all the city people who fled to the country. Most contractors are quoting a 1-to-2-year wait before they can start on anything.
Wow Kerry you’ve done it again here man. I love this concept and there different shapes as well however I didn’t see a bath room in the model A 2000 sq floor plan where are they located on the eastern coast exactly Great find Kerry
Enjoy your channel. Truly appreciate all your insights and complete review of the homes. You have any recommendations for prefab for west?( Utah or nevada build sights)
Hi Kerry, not sure if this question has been asked here yet or not, but I'm asking anyway. With regards to the third home option, the blueprints show and explain the lower-level design of the main building, the largest of the three fine, but the upstairs has a large space to the right of the master bedroom that is left unexplained and/or undeveloped? Am I missing something here... What are your thoughts about what or why?
I'm from WA state as well. Really liking what Backwoods Hut Company is putting out, but there are so many companies out there now that I don't know what will eventually work with our oddball narrow lot. Every video Kerry puts out means yet another option to research.
Drop Structures, Wolf Industries, Built, Ideabox, S2A, TLC Modular, Studio Shed, Build Shure... There are so many. My wife and I are in NE Washington state and are compiling a massive spreadsheet.
I'd be curious to know if Opal has built any of these homes or do they exist in the digital realm only. With the onslaught of ADU builders in my area, I see to many companies that have digital models only. I was quite weary of those ADU companies when I was selecting a builder
Just Curious. Do you have a website or someplace where you list all the places you've highlighted? I remember you mentioning some places in N Texas (Grand Prairie, I thought?), but when I google that I can not find any listing. Thank you!
@@KerryTarnow Hmmm, not sure but thanks for the info. I was hoping to find a website for them, just to get the 411 on them. Any others in the DFW area? I'm SW of Fort Worth now, and thought it would be fun to look. Keep up the great work!
The customization is really promising. The 1000 sq ft model A would have a ton of lost potential if you couldn't say just put up glass walls around that dead space between the separated room to make it into a mechanical room and storage area instead of a shaded walkway through usable space in your home... But yeah, if the pricing is right, this could be a real winner.
I love the idea of a design system and I really love the style of these and the idea of a separate outbuilding for an office… and I really REALLY love that they are based in Maine (very close to me) BUT… what do almost all of these modern prefab companies have against laundry and closets?! Not a single closet anywhere in any of those modules. Makes for nice looking designs and renderings but how would you actually live in these? People need storage.
As usual, nothing at all about price until you are well into the 'process' of buying one. I get that there are huge differences between a sloped lot far away and a flat lot near the factory, or whether the customer will handle site work themselves or not, etc., but why can't an estimate be given? Some of these companies are so proud of their boxes it isn't even a consideration to look at their products. Are we talking a 600 sq. ft module for 80k or 210k? It makes a difference for most prospective buyers and is not too much to ask for information wise.
Prices?? usually you have a segment for that... and now because i left a comment, i will receive at least 2 telegram scam comments, your channel is notorious for that!!!
They aren’t available… my guess is they’re custom tailored to the project. Message me on Wechat for big big investment opportunities: 5️⃣5️⃣5️⃣-🔟0️⃣1️⃣4️⃣
The cost of the very large glass windows at 0:20 make that home suspect..... any glass larger than 6'x8' is insanely expensive. You're blowing the entire budget by including them.
🐘 (it's an elephant, I'd like to address) Mr Trunk, why have you squashed Kerry's personality? Why have you stopped making jokes? Your videos used to be entertaining AND informative. Hey Jerome. I plan on building a modular home in 2023 and am curious about what government mandates you’re referring to. I’d appreciate any insight. Thank you!
It is mind blowing just how many prefab home building companies are popping up with different concepts.
Right??
I appreciate your commentary. You are real and smart and yes very dry in your humor, love it!

While it might make good business sense for them, it eliminates a single home purchase opportunity for the working-class little guy. Bummer, hope some other companies see the need for housing for everyday folks
Unfortunately manufacturers are just trying to cash in on this fad, and this is a fad
Love, love, LOVE the separated bedrooms. It's not just for intergenerational families. I work 12-hour nights and my son works 12-hour days. absolutely!
I'm liking the layout of the 1000 sqft unit. The attached ADU as you put it works very well for those that need a little "space" to themselves!
My absolut favorite!! I‘ve seen those houses about 2 y ago and thought they come from Norway. Great to know the builder now. Thanks👍🏻

I’d sell my soul for a Model A… that thing is GORGEOUS!!! Also, if the owner of Opal isn’t named Opal, I will be slightly disappointed.

Lovely, but are there ever any with a realistic closet? I'd need an ADU just for my clothes! Could you enclose the breezeway between the units?
Exactly. Not a float to be found in any of the modules. I feel like these homes are designed for Instagram, not people.
Thanks for doing this work
My pleasure!

"Planet friendly and energy efficient" But are they nontoxic? Will they outgas adhesives and formaldehyde? You should do an episode on the topic
OK! 3 bedroom, 3 bath, I'm in! Simple.

Kerry, Did you see any info on the cost range of these homes? I saw nothing on the website.
No I didnt, I think it depends on the project…
Designers should include a security function that dark tints the glass when a motion detector light goes off at night.
I saw one company that has glass that goes frosted at the touch of a button
Nice video.
