Manipur: Students stage protest over police inaction in Seigunlal Misao case

Students and staffers of Damdei Christian College at Charhazare in Manipur’s Senapati district staged a protest against the killing of Seigunlal Misao on Wednesday. Protestors alleged police inaction over the killing of the 17-year-old who was shot by unidentified gunmen, including a woman, on March 25.
Meanwhile, rebel group National Revolutionary Front Manipur claimed responsibility for killing Misao and labelled him a drug peddler. This did not go down well with the family members of Misao who have refused to claim the deceased youth’s body and said that they will stick to their stance until there was clarity. Several organisations also condemned the NRFM’s allegations.
Earlier, Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of the kin and promised necessary inquiries into the case. The police, however, are yet to make any arrests in the case.
