Slytherin has long been infamous for chalking up Dark/evil wizards, but just because you belong to that house, it doesn't mean you necessarily have to be evil.

Ooh good question! I think what makes a wizard great is their depth and breadth of knowledge and skill and how they use that knowledge to positively impact the world around them. Merlin's legendary power was tempered by his equally legendary kindness and compassion instead of makng him arrogant. Same with Dumbledore. They were able to influence people and did so for the good of others and not just for their own personal gain.
A wise wizard/witch will never know the limits of their power. That's why we will never know if dumbledore was the most powerful wizard ever lived, because he was very wise.

There’s an anomaly in the narrative. Hogwarts was founded in 999, or thereabouts, near the end of the Middle Ages. You say Merlin was one of its first students, then used a time spell, even perhaps an early form of a time turner, to travel back to the time of King Uther. How, then, was Merlin’s half sister Morgana there as well? Did she follow in his footsteps? Almost as fantastic, I think the story should follow something closer to Muggle lore, which has a vagabond wizard appearing as early as the Sixth Century. H may have searched for mentors who could help him to deal with his prophetic dreams, and to help him reconcile his use of the ancient magic, using runes and sigils and casting circles, with the wand magic he had discovered from one of his teachers. Morgana had also learned the ancient magic, and he had visions that she may destroy Britain with her demonic powers. Merlin thought he could defeat her by merging the two methods of magic. Morgana was preserved by her magic, Merlin managed to craft the first Sorcerer’s Stone. After hundreds of years, with both Merlin and Morgana growing more powerful over time, Merlin met Slytherin, who finally provided the link Merlin required. Slytherin recognized Merlin’s great abilities, and recruited him to be the first Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts. Merlin and Slytherin had a falling out, over the issue of purebloods, and because Merlin needed to go after Morgana. Soon after, Merlin defeated Morgana. She was killed, and he was injured, although I don’t know how the legend of the Crystal Cave melds into this. At least he hid or lost his Stone.
Why there is not much on Merlin yet in any HP movies or fantastic beasts.... moreover why the 5 hidden chambers was never revealed in the HP movies ? Is the chamber of secrets one of them? Its so confusing 😭

It all seems nice until you actually see the datation of Arthurian legend. Not the legend itself, but the events it describes. These events are dated to 5.-6. century, which is way before foundation of Hogwarts 😢 Don’t get me wrong, I like this idea, but Rowling just made a mistake here…
