Dude I’m stoked, the water temps are dropping and those bass ain’t so lethargic. I’m ready to tear them up. The fluke gets destroyed! Thanks for all you do for the fishing community! Love your tips
Im a Chaplain for a PTSD recovery program we take Veterans and other participants fishing to help them cope with their recovery struggles. Im a Top water fan. Love A Berkley Choppo, but if i had to narrow it down. Im a Crankbait aggressive fisherman . Love your channel! God bless
Mr. Martin , I just started fresh water fishing about 2 years ago. Every thing I know I've learned from watching not only your videos, but your father's as well. Before fishing I lived a life of Kaos and pain, thank you for showing me a special way ,that has truly brought peace to my life. One of my favorite baits to use in October is Rapala BX Brat 06 Square Bill Crankbait. Like you spoke about that smaller profile gets it done. God bless
I'm a sucker for moving topwater, and that Googan Hound is just so fun to throw. Especially that bone color. Man, bass just hit that thing so hard for me up here in Ohio!
Hardcore tournament crappie angler here, in the spring and this time of year we target a lot of lay downs. Catch a ton of bass mixed in using 1/16 ounce jigs and 2 1/2 inch tubes. Just a vertical jigging presentation.
Hey Scott, my favorite in the fall is a white/ chartreuse chatter bait with a matching colored swimbait. I’ll typically throw it out and let it down fall and give it some twitches to get a reaction bite. But if that fails I’ll throw a football jig with a craw on it followed with the same process! Always fun.
Hi Scott! I’m an older guy, been fishing over 50 years but I still learn something watching your videos. My favorite fall bait is a buzzbait. If it’s not getting bit I’m going to a spinnerbait. Good luck on the water sir.
Up north in Connecticut. Hi Scott. I been fishing up here for 50 years and if I had to pick one Fall bait [before it gets real cold] I'm talking 60-70 days maybe down to 40 at night would be a Spinnerbait- White w/gold Colorado or Black w/gold Colorado. Fast or slow roll shoreline, drop offs, moving water. Thanks Scott. Love watching your Dad too, he's awesome.
I'm a fisherman in SC, fishing several lakes from piers, docks or shore. Most, if not all, lakes have a rocky bottom or structure to get hung up on. So I fish mostly weedless, and the bait that gives me the most options is the swimbait. Currently, what's working for me, are the flukes, preferably white or with some white in it. They catch both largemouth and smallies keeping it 2-3 feet of the bottom.
Ned rig with a zman trailer. On the cold morning when the fish are just getting a little active you can fish it slow and later in the day when temps warm up you can pop it and throw it in rock areas, weed edges and are sure to get a bunch of bites
Going small is key for me too. Here on Lake Chickamauga, everyone and their brother will be throwing a frog and punching the mats. I like to move to a more subtle presentation, and throw a small swimbait on light line around the edge of those mats.
Hi Mr. Martin, my local ponds are in the fall transition(or maybe i just can’t catch anything). My favorite lure in fall is a frog (booyah padcrasher), but just broke my last one off😓 Cranks also have been working. Thanks for the tips!
Fall time especially in October fishing for smallmouth here in Colorado I use the smaller bandito bug, in which, the bandito bug is my favorite soft plastic. I put it on a ZMan ned rig jig, cast it out, let it sink, and start jigging.
My favorite lure is a square bill crank bait with blue gill and shad colors. I fish it by slowly reeling in stopping and letting it float to the top, then i repeat the process with the occasional pop
Hey Scott, Texas panhandle fisher here. It’s hard to beat the fun of any topwater during the fall. Whopper plopper or revolver have produced some big bites for us recently. If topwater fails, swim baits are also hot. Thanks for great videos. Keep them coming.
Up in wisconsin fishing a river system i usually use a 1/4-5/16th jig with a krackin craw, medium diving crank in 5-10ft, drop shotting, jerkbaits, and a small swimbait/swimjigs.
The type of lure I like throwing in the month of October is a crankbait all you do is fish it around docks or around grass you just burn the crank and you will get bass
I’m an old school kinda guy living on a black water tidal river. That old floating worm or fluke is deadly as these fish start moving back shallow. I enjoy the vids Scott and wish you all the luck next season on the elites👊🏼
Started throwing a Rattle trap and ripping it through the hydrilla. Ran into your dad at Headwaters boat ramp the day he forgot to put he's plug in his boat and had the steering locked up on him. Even the pros have problems sometimes. Enjoyed meeting him.
Im a new angler. Been trying out a bunch of different things to see what catches the most in the lakes around my house and so far I have been loving a texas rigged trick worm. The bass around here love it and i cant get enough of the excitement from catching fish!
Love micro crankbaits and I do catch alot of fish on them all I use is a open face and run it from braid to floro I have used it on 20lb braid - 6 lb floro and it works great I will sometimes use a swivel to help it not wrap up on me
Hey scott, met you at the columbus fishing expo. I Listened to your chatterbait lessons that you gave up on stage and took those lessons to the water during all seasons. The versatility of the chatterbait makes it an excellent bait all through out the different phases of the fall season. And it has became my go to anywhere I go.
I like using top water when the water temperature first starts to drop down and ones that top water bite stops like getting later in the day or something I will go to a drop shot or a shake head
Have to start each fall day with a square bill and spinner bait and adjust from there. Try silent and rattles, and different colors. No luck, switch up to a slower presentation with a senko or a shakey head on shallow cover.
I'm just starting the bass fish, so far this month though I've had my best look on a spinner. Although a big fat plastic worm seems to work pretty well too.
Lets see, October..... Id definitely have to say that crankbaits used to be my main October bait. But nowadays as every Yahoo and lazy fisherman out there can beat the bank burning every lipless and squarebill from the 21st century and on, id say my confidence lies with a spinnerbait. The blades r and awesome eye catcher and small bait fish imitators to the fish. And always with a trailer, either a 3.8" keitech or a 4.3" keitech, r my only options... I just wanna give Scott a huge shout out and appreciation for sharing his knowledge of fishing thats only acquired from a lifelong love and passion from this sport, a million times THANK YOU! Long live the king!
My favorite baite is a black and blue and a green watermelon strike king worm and I Texas rig it with a bullet weight and I do this all year round and have a lot of luck I’m from Michigan and it gets really cold up here
I’m new to fishing from a boat and the opportunity it provides to get into more places. I have always loved fishing with junebug colored worms while bank fishing. As for October, I recently tried the Heddon Zara Spook. I love the action on the bait, but haven’t caught anything just yet. Thanks for sharing your videos. I’m learning quite a bit.
In October I like throwing a weightless fluke and a frog around lily pad/ grass patches. When I'm not in grass, I like using buzzbaits and a Texas rig around lay downs for those fish that are transitioning to hard cover. Thanks for all of the awesome content you make and sharing great tips.
I live in KY and fish some deep water lakes and reservoirs like barren, cumberland, and dale hollow. My favorite topwater baits are Zara spook and whopper poppers. Other favorites for this time of year are white double willow spinnerbaits, swim baits, and crank baits.
My go to October bait is definitely a big swim bait, nothing better than finding bait fish off of a shallow flat with access to deep water and fishing the break around the point sitting in deep water tends to be a blessing for me!
In the winter I would have to say the spinner bait. It is somewhat versatile and you can throw it at almost every lake. The booyah chartreuse and white is my favorite at the moment. Thank for the awesome content!
I love the finesse tactic. Ive enjoyed slowing down and really understanding the areas I fish, bottom wise lol. Feeing that bottom and paying close attention, patience, has caused me to greatly benefit and increase my catches 🤙🏽🤙🏽
In SoCal I’ve been using a 3.5 inch 3-5 ft diving black back silver jerk bait. On a 6.6 medium fast action spinning rod and get real aggressive with the jerk. And they have been killing it
I noticed that all of your rods have a casting reel. Is that your favorite reel? Am not a pro like you. Trying to get good on my best therapy Wich is fishing. Hope to see you next time giving tips with a spinning reel. Had a great time watching. Thank you. Happy fishing 👍👍
Was on the lake last week in Southern California and was the only one throwing a jerk bait. It was KVD large size with three hooks. Had 3 in the boat. I think if I go much smaller I’ll bring more in. Bait fish every where!!
Bandito Bug just became my favorite bait about a month ago. Green pumpkin all day. For October, it’s heavy shad colored double willow spinner mid column, 15’ diving shad cranks, and the plopper in the morning. I typically don’t have much luck with the swim jig but I’ll give it a shot this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion!
Was having a slow day on the lake, switched to a lipless crank and couldn't keep the bass off my hook, definitely a fan of the lipless now. Still a big fan of my Okuma TCS crank rod too!
This is my first season fishing in 20 years and have been loving it again. So far I've had beat luck in October with a shallow diving crankbait with lots of pauses in my retrieve
Just started bass fishing in July and, no pun intended, I'm hooked. Mostly municipal ponds here in SoCal and each one is different, so that's a fun challenge. Drop shot worked well early on. Nailed a topwater in the dark a month ago and lately the Ned rig has been working. Looking forward to trying out an underspin next week. Thanks for the video. It's pretty cool to learn about the transitions and how it affects the temperament of the fish.
Pearl red eye shad, I use my graphs to find the bait stacked up and attack. Don’t need them to be schooling. If the bass stay low, count you bait down to them.
First in the AM I'll do some Roland Martin fall fishing with SPRO BronzeEye and FlippinFrog... Second I'll do Scott/Roland Martin fall fishing with Chatterbait w/ Zako... Third small swimbaits... Forth Small Crank Bait or Lipless... Lastly Senko any drop shot, punching etc...
Just moved to FL a year ago now and I remember last Oct catching my PB 7.2lb out of the lake behind my parents house and it was on a popper, I've always loved the excitement from top water fishing and also really started throwing weedless flukes and catching them like crazy. Love your Video's Scott keep it up. Hope to meet you one down here in FL at one of the tournament stops !!!
I almost always start with a chug bug at warp speed, to see how active they are. If they hit it, tail slap it, follow or nuthin. Adjust accordingly. Works with Snook as well
I’m always learning more and more when it comes to fishing, but last year a Chartreuse and White spinnerbait KILLED for me, and then a wacky rigged senko always slams.
Bill Lewis Stutter Step, making that 180 degree turn drives them crazy. It's really easy to walk the dog with it too. Scrounger head with a split tail fluke, I normally fish a 4 inch Arkansas Shiner. A favorite bottom bait is a wobble head with a 4/0 EWG hook. I like using a NetBait Paca craw. Insert a small piece of foam in the hollow opening, this will help it stand up better, plus is a good place to spray craw scent onto the bait. Then hold on, them big ones like this bait.
Hi Mr. Martin! my october setup i have been running is a 6'3 baitcaster that i got from cabellas for 30$ bucks lol. i have been using a black and red lipless crank and it has been SLAYING. i am still somewhat new to bass fishing because i am a fly fisherman and prefer trout but i can say bass fishing this time of year with friends has really been a blast.
I’m a brand new angler and haven’t tried to catch bass yet but I’m hoping to start soon. No clue where to start but I’ve heard lots of success lately on Texas rigs where I’m at so I’ll probably go that route
So far. I’m new newer angler for about 6 months. And I don’t have a favorite yet. I live down in Arizona so I rock a lot of Texas rigs and wacky rigs. With a bait caster, medium action and 10lbs braid
I like to use a Texas rig with a rage craw. And I like to work it by lifting the rod up then letting it drop. Most of the time the bass hits it when it’s dropping.
in my area of central, MS I stick with a 6.5in ribbon tail motor oil colored worm with a 1/16 oz weight. I can fish it slow or reel it in at a moderate speed and catch catch catch!
Scott, thanks for help teaching me to fish this summer! Just picked up fishing this year and I started fishing lake St. Claire in Michigan and watching your channels have helped me learn techniques of different lures and when to fish them. This fall, I have been using the Z Man Finesse TRD green pumpkin rigged up on a Texas rig 3o EWG hook primarily however i have been experimenting with the Googan bandito bug used as a trailer for a chatterbait to try and learn something new. Any tips would help! Thanks again Scott for all you do with theses videos. They truly help!
I have the best luck for bass this time of year with lipless crankbaits. I probably need to branch out more and experiment, but it's hard when you have a confidence bait!
I just started bass fishing and my favorite so far (caught my PB on) is a googan grass hero with a bandito bug trailer. Swimming it through light bush piles.
I tend to go small forst part of the month seim jigs and smaller swimbaits. Topwaters poppers buzzbaits and frogs then i seitch uo and go big walking baits, swim jigs with big paddle tail trailer and we cant forget spinnerbaits.
Like you mentioned they’re mostly feeding shad this time of the year so I personally love to use my zoom fluke in white or Strike King’s rage swimmer in either pearl flash or ghost shad all Texas rigged with 1/4 oz weight or a belly weighted hook
I like to throw a little spinner to start before I get to some jig and bomber bait to hit close to bottom or just old school soft bait it for hard times especially a dead ringer or a berkley power bait...
I've been catching bass on shallow jointed rapala's, fishing them over grass that's still about 1-2 feet from the surface in Kansas. But also swimbaits. And also poppers. And crappie jigs. So if you are in NE Kansas, it looks like you can throw whatever you want!
Under spins are awesome this time of year but, everybody knows that- try the Bomber shallow A with a VMC bladed treble hook on the rear for something new- it flat catches them for me. Not just in shallow water either- I fish it out to as deep as 8-10 feet and they still come up to hit it. Any super shallow crank would probably do- I like the baby bass shallow A which is relatively small. Where I fish this time of year they always seem to be on tiny bait- gets tough to match sometimes. Maybe that's why the bladed treble seems to help so much- has a tiny blade on it. It really increases the amount of strikes I get doing it- I've tried it both ways.
I like to take a Carolina rig tie to braid then take 6to8lb line leader then tie on micro crankbait on drag it on bottom stop it let the lure float back up caught some nice fish doing this
I've been throwing bandito bugs in the cover and a Texas rigged big bite bait cane thumper on a screw lock hook with a pegged weight over the grass. Caught 13 today off of the swimbait.
When the bass start focusing on baitfish/shad I love to powerfish reaction baits. Flukes are good in open water and around sparce cover. Prop frogs around the nasty stuff. Lipless Crankbaits in shallow feeding flats and deeper structure. If you find active feeding fish you can throw different lures and find out what works best for your waters. Be open minded and dont over think it fish will eat whatever imitates the forage the focused on....dont forget the fall jig bite!
Haven't been fishing since I was a child until recently. Having to learn everything all by myself and with a good bit of help from TH-cam videos has been frustrating and fun. But I have to say my best lure so far has been a cheap $3 white spinner from Walmart.
Hi mr Martin! I have just purchased my first fishing license in my home state of Missouri. I have never really fished before but I have been every day since I have purchased my license (3 days). I really enjoyed watching your video as to learn different things to try out and I love learning all these new things. I have caught one small bass so far but am excited to try and catch more. I love the idea of giveaways as I do not have much and would be an awesome opportunity to get started thanks for all your videos and tips!
As long as the Temps aren't super cold I love using a wacky rig with a stick bait/senko usually watermelon red, junebug, Okeechobee craw type colors. And I will use a weight stopper so my weight isn't moving freely.
When the water temps drop and the Smallmouth go shallow and heavy on the feedbag, it's a great time to throw a squarebill crankbait!! I love fall cranking.
My favorite is shopper popper all day hands down that tells me what's in the water and I pulled out big fish Scott we taking about 9bls and 7bls all-day pond popping
All I know how to do is put live bait on my hook and wait for fish and I just love watching your videos and not understanding what your saying and I really want to get into fake baits so I can finally get what your saying so one of those boxes would be a great and awesome tool to get me started I’m 14 and trying to have fun love your vid
As a bass angler from Florida in the month of October I gotta go with the recon great crank bait Or a swim jig it really gets the bass going with that reaction bite!
Great content as always! My most successful technique in October would either be a weightless stick or swimming worm fished decently fast, or a smaller ball jig with a small paddle tail or a 5” grub and swim it over grass or structure.
My favorite Fall bait is a lipless. I've caught my biggest bass of the Fall over the last few years on a clutch. So from September through November I always have one tied on!
I’m a big jig fisherman. I know it may not be a numbers bait but it catches me some good fish. I actually just caught my first top water fish off of that exact Westin lure from my MTB.
My favorite baits to throw during this month is a hogan squad frog in the morning, then later on in the day I like to throw a Texas rig with a green pumpkin baby brush hog, also I like to throw spinnerbaits and swimming jigs along flooded timber and stick ups.
I'm in the Houston area, so soft plastic work great, but I like to through a roster tail latter in the morning and top water first thing in the morning.
This tips are great! I’ve always had good luck on a wacky rig senko but I just recently moved down to Clewiston from Massachusetts and thanks to the locals, they’ve introduced me to baits like flukes, black and blue crawfish and swim jugs to help me fish these canals and Big O! Looks like I’ll be making another trip to the stores to stock up on some more shad imitation baits! Thanks again for a great video!
My favorite bait for this time of year is a small floating jerkbait, something like the Rapala Original Minnow. I've caught bass on many different color schemes, but I tend to prefer chartreuse as a primary color right now. I tend to fish a lot of heavily tannin stained water, and chartreuse has always been one of my go-to colors under those conditions.
Shedding craw elastic worm baits. Fishing the banks around this month of October. I get a lot of of craw colored worms, using a seedless ned-rig 1/6 ounce
I live on Kentucky lake and I love heddon super spooks with the feathered hook for the top water bite this time of year. The bandito bugs Texas rig with a glass bead pegged is one of my favorite year round. I also use a lot of the Googan mini klutch in any type of shad color. You also can’t go wrong with a good shakey head with the slim shake worm on it to throw in brush piles. Works every time.
Love small crome crankbaits in October Have to remember, October is between heat of summer and the rain and the end of October is dry and cooler, so you have to work the bait with the heat of the air and water and throw the color for that particular water clarity. Don't forget to work the flukes, both shallow and deep.
Just caught 8 largemouth on a bluegill pattern flat bodied squarebill on my neighborhood pond from the bank. Caught them casting parallel to the bank within 3 feet of the bank. Has to be one of my favorite lures/techniques for October!
Finally an October baits video for Florida, I'm a mini recon kinda guy this time of the year.
Dude I’m stoked, the water temps are dropping and those bass ain’t so lethargic. I’m ready to tear them up. The fluke gets destroyed! Thanks for all you do for the fishing community! Love your tips
Go get em! Thank you for your support dude
Hi Mr. Martin! In October my go to bait is a Googan Recon. I use a Sick Stick 7,4 heavy and 14 lb line. Thanks!

Probably my favourite lure for the month of October is the Googan squad ratlin Ned on a shaky head hook and I fish it slow
I love an underspin. You will be throwing everything and for some reason they go insane on the underspin
I'm a sucker for moving topwater, and that Googan Hound is just so fun to throw. Especially that bone color. Man, bass just hit that thing so hard for me up here in Ohio!
I've been killing them on the hound in Texas
Hardcore tournament crappie angler here, in the spring and this time of year we target a lot of lay downs. Catch a ton of bass mixed in using 1/16 ounce jigs and 2 1/2 inch tubes. Just a vertical jigging presentation.

Burnin flukes through the grass in backs of creeks when the shad start headin in...plus the topwater bite in october can be incredible!
Hi Scott! I’m an older guy, been fishing over 50 years but I still learn something watching your videos. My favorite fall bait is a buzzbait. If it’s not getting bit I’m going to a spinnerbait. Good luck on the water sir.

49 years old just started fishing this year First October ever for me, going to try Boo Jig with a jackal archelon soft craw trail. Enjoyed your video

Hey Scott! In October, my go to is the whopper plopper or ‘walkin the dog’ spooks in the shallows during the morning before bright daylight!
My FAVORITE😁fishing technique is throwing crankbaits. I've had great luck with red to orangish/brown colors, something craw related

Works with Snook as well
My favorite bait to use is the bandito bug from Googan squad. I love the way it looks out and in of the water and the fish seem to smack it.
My go to October bait is the klutch lipless crank bait. That lure has been producing quiet a few bass for me in the last few weeks!
I’m brand new to bass fishing. Using minnows on a slip bobber for crappie. I’m using whatever you tell me at this point.
So if you are in NE Kansas, it looks like you can throw whatever you want!
mine is going 2 be some type of T-Rig between a stick bait or craw , also a topwater bait
I drag a shaky head slow on the bottom. Chatter bait in and around grass. Jerk bait and or double fluke rig on schooling fish.
I use a fluke with the rubber tassels like a spinner bait and a stainless front piece like a crankbait. It's the trifecta of the top 3 fall baits.
Classic Act. Thanks for All! Your Family have been A Great Inspiration to So Many Generations of Fishermen and Fisherwomen.
The Black trick worm still works wonders anytime of year, what’s good for the Suwannee River? Any suggestions?
My favorite Fall bait is a lipless. I've caught my biggest bass of the Fall over the last few years on a clutch. So from September through November I always have one tied on!
Yep same here ,love traps my favorite,my pub 3/4 ounce trap striking, shad
Pb
Like most bass guys I love throwing top water. Walking baits and flukes are top of my list. Keep moving fast and cover lots of water
Love small crome crankbaits in October
Have to remember, October is between heat of summer and the rain and the end of October is dry and cooler, so you have to work the bait with the heat of the air and water and throw the color for that particular water clarity.
